  1. You must have the iPhone app. The Android app doesn't have a notepad feature. But I sure wish it did! (Besides being tremendously helpful, it would have prevented me from posting something on a cache page I did NOT want to be seen by anyone but me, which happened because I mistakenly used the field note feature.)
  2. This is not what I came to the forums to find out about, but I am :D to find out about this! I really needed this feature on Friday and couldn't figure out how it was possible to do on my phone. I blundered my way to where I needed to go, but I'm SO glad to know this feature does exist on the Groundspeak app after all! Thanks to the first poster for asking and to you for answering!
  3. I am having the very same problem, and wonder if you got geobeagle going? Doesn't seem like anything here works, or that there is really anywhere to troubleshoot. Even the other members don't seem to understand, as their answers are just stabs in the dark. May have to go back to my old GPS. I don't know if you figured out the answer to this yet, but I discovered that I had to have the PQ emailed to me and that I then had to access my email on my phone and download the attachment there. Make sure it's in the /download directory. I always have to move it where it belongs before Geobeagle can find it. Once I have the file in the right directory, I go to Geobeagle and sync caches.
  4. Thank you for answering a question I asked my brother in email yesterday (no response yet). I don't remember what I've done with corrected coordinates in GSAK in the past, but I recently discovered the corrected coordinates feature and used it to update all the coordinates for the puzzle caches mentioned above. But I was unsure of what would happen when I updated with a new PQ. I'm glad to know that the updated coordinates will not be overridden. I always get asked on sign off if I want to back up, and I generally say yes, but I'll look to see if I can set it to auto. It may indeed be worth contacting Groundspeak to see if there have been other people reporting this problem or (even better) if they can dredge up the notes.
  5. My first thought as well - just make sure you are logged on at all. And it was my first thought, too. (Well, maybe my second. I probably shouldn't put my first thought into writing in a public forum. ) But I verified that I was logged in. I hoped it was just a temporary glitch, but the notes I most cared about were still missing the next time I logged in. I did find a couple of my notes still intact, so I don't know why some disappeared and some didn't.
  6. I have this happen a lot too. I always wonder if it's telling me I got logged off, so I usually log out, log back in, then go back to the page and refresh, and then try again. It usually works.
  7. Do you have multiple accounts? If so, are you signed on with the same account that saved the notes? No, I only have the one account. As I respond to this, I have just finished 1) putting the corrected coordinates into GSAK and 2) creating a bookmark list of puzzle caches with the solutions noted. (It's a private list, of course.) I also re-entered the solutions in the personal cache notes field. Surely I won't lose all three sources in the future, so I hope I'm covered now. But I still have to go back and re-solve two puzzles. Neither one was easy for me, and one of them took me days to solve. It won't help that I've solved it once, because I'll never remember the math involved. ::sigh::
  8. I solved several puzzle caches and made note of the actual coordinates in the personal cache notes field. I just discovered that those notes are gone on all of those caches. I thought the notes were to be used for things like that. I would have added them to my GPSr at the point I actually went looking for those caches, which was not in the immediate future. Has anyone else had this happen? Is there any way to know how long a personal cache note will stay on the site before it's swept clean? Does anyone know why they were swept clean? I hope have notes to at least some of those caches, because I really don't want to have to solve all of those puzzles again.
  9. I knew this, yet I still didn't use that feature when I asked this question on another thread. (Geojibby answered it there as well, but we both concentrated on the waymark method.) This would be called a d'oh! moment for me. To the original poster, thanks for asking! Now we're both happy.
  10. This didn't work for me. I went back to the puzzle cache I was working on. I selected the waypoint, then went to my compass dashboard. I selected geocaching-active. I still got 1) the name of another cache, 2) the distance to that cache, 3) the arrow in the smaller dashboard field pointing in the direction of that cache. The main compass did appear to be pointing me in the general direction of the cache, and I did get a signal when I got to the area. However, it didn't give me any information about my distance from the waypoint. And I still find it confusing and frustrating that it does not indicate that I am navigating to the waypoint.
  11. Thanks, Geojibby. I deleted my visited.txt file and all the GPX files and then uploaded a new PQ and all looks good. Now I just need to make sure I don't throw out any notes from puzzle caches that I haven't found yet, just in case something goes wrong and I discover I don't have the information recorded anywhere anymore. (But the notes field for Premium Members will come in handy there.)
  12. Am I interpreting your video and answer correctly? If I call up the waypoint and then use the geocaching active selection from the compass screen, I should see the correct waypoint/cache name on my screen instead of a random nearby cache?
  13. Thanks. I think that video will be very helpful when I have time to watch the whole thing. (Tonight was my late night at work, so I will save the whole thing to watch when I'm a little more awake and can get the most out of it. I really appreciate all the suggestions you've given me. I'm also in the process of trying to reupload my PQ to my Dakota, as you suggested in another thread. I am having trouble (what else) clearing out another PQ from the GSAK database, so as soon as I get that done, I'll upload the new PQ and delete the visited.txt and see if all my found caches are deleted from the unit. If I only didn't have to go to work, I could concentrate on getting these things done! (Oh, I think I'm going to like the new forum changes!)
  14. I still have a lot to learn about my Dakota 20. One of those things is how to use waypoints. When doing a multi and getting new coordinates, I know to enter "next stage". But why does it say I'm navigating to a different cache (it seems it usually tries to get me to the "next nearest" cache), not telling me it's going to the waypoint? I find this very confusing, as I'm never sure if it's really pointing me to that other cache or actually directing me to the waypoint, just with the wrong name showing on the legend. Here's an example, though this is for a puzzle cache, not a multi, and I made the actual coordinates a waypoint rather than a "next stage". I just turned on my Dakota 20 and selected "Where To?". I selected the waypoint I want to go to. It showed me the map, and it looked as though it was finding the correct location. (I renamed the waypoint as (name of cache)-Actual, and that's what the map showed.) But when I hit GO, the name of a totally different cache showed up and my waypoint no longer shows on the screen. I know that the cache that's named at the top of the screen is some distance away from where I want to go. Which one is it actually directing me to? If it's the other cache, what am I doing wrong?
  15. I'm new to pocket queries and GSAK, so I've done very little fiddling around with the Dakota until now. I'll see what I can do with this and the above info. Thanks. Well, this is interesting to learn! I was a Basic member until just a couple of weeks ago, so yes, most of my caches were added by the "send to GPS" option. I didn't realize that the ones sent by PQ were collected into just one .gpx file. That will indeed make it easier in the future.
  16. If I delete the .gpx files completely, won't I have to reload all those caches again, even the ones I haven't found? I don't mind deleting the *_visited.txt file now, since I've confirmed that I do have the codes for a few puzzle caches I've yet to get to the final on. I'd saved them as field notes, just in case I lost the paper I'd recorded them on (which I had, temporarily).
  17. They will go away when you load a new *.gpx. I read this thread and am still at a loss. I deleted a few dozen .gpx files (one by one...what a drag!) and discovered when I turned on my Dakota that they still showed up in my Found list. I found this thread and tried 1) downloading a new .gpx file and 2) deleting files from the *_visited.txt file (I didn't delete the entire file, though). My original Found list is still showing. Do I need to do 2) before 1)? Do I need to delete the *_visited.txt file completely?
  18. Did you remember to configure your Nuvi for "Off Road"? If not, it just snapped your position to the road that was ~67' away at 90 degrees to your position. Since the geolocation of roads isn't perfect, they use this "road snap" feature to keep it from looking like you're sometimes having a bit of an "off road experience" while you're driving. Shut that off by going to "Off Road" mode and it'll place you where you really are. Yes, I had it set to off road (and pedestrian routing).
  19. My Nuvi isn't accurate enough, at least as far as I can determine. I tested it the other day by standing directly beneath a known cache and it still told me I was 67' away. It's great for getting me to the site, but not so good when I get near GZ. (Then again, my skills aren't so good either yet, so I can't blame everything on it!)
  20. I'm new to geocaching and I'm looking to buy a GPSr. I've been vacillating between the Vista HCx and the eTrex Summit HC. I have a Garmin Nuvi 255 for my car, so I don't actually need a GPS that has routing capability. However, the expandable memory of the Vista seems like a good idea. On the other hand, I'm not liable to go out for extended cache runs or to do a lot in the way of difficult caches (including difficult terrain), so any pocket queries I might create when/if I eventually become a premium member would probably tend to be limited in size. Therefore, the 24MB of memory on the Summit might be just fine for me. I'd also like to keep the price down, so I'm not in the market for a new Oregon, 60SCx, etc. Feedback? Added to that query, however, is that while looking at various forum posts and online, I've come across mentions of various online sellers. I know I can buy at Amazon or eBay and be pretty sure I'm buying from a reputable dealer. What about places like the gpsstore.com and drivengps.com? I've seen some good deals there, which makes me wonder if 1) I should consider buying a higher-end refurbished model that I wouldn't consider buying new. So I'd also like feedback on whether gpsstore.com and drivengps.com are reputable places to purchase from and if I should consider getting a refurbished Colorado 300 instead of the Vista or Summit. (I didn't see Oregons or Dakotas at a price range that I'd still consider.) Thanks for the help.
