That can't be the problem, not only because I didn't use a quote (I have enough trouble tapping on letters and numbers while logging in the field), but also because the missing notes were the first eight we did. The rest of them are all there. I don't delete my field notes regularly, so the file is still intact. (The file does show a few ", but they are all the result of an empty comment field, not something I inputted.)
If you have used the " character anywhere in any of your notes, this will cause all notes from that point and all after to be disregarded. gc.com uses the " character as a text delimiter in the geocache_visits.txt file, and if one gets into one of your notes, it thrashes the parsing algorithm that looks at your notes after they've been uploaded. It shouldn't, but that's how it is.
If you don't think you've done so, let us know. Meanwhile, grab a copy of your file and segregate it somewhere so that it doesn't get deleted or overwritten so it can be inspected.

I did a lot of geocaching yesterday. We found 53 caches. I wrote field notes on all of them. I uploaded them tonight. But only 45 of the field notes uploaded, although when I look at the file, all of the notes are there. Is there a limit to the number of field notes that can be uploaded at a time?
Also,the Android version of the Groundspeak official app now handles field notes very poorly. It is hard to find the field note option in its new location. And at least one note that was supposed to be a field note wound up getting posted as a log instead. Fortunately, that note didn't include anything about the hide, although I usually do include that info in my field notes.

Am I correct in assuming that this is an edit for the Waypoint Finder script? That's not one I use, so I guess I'm still out of luck. I want that mystery mover and the comments (sent to GPS) back.
I got everything back. Turns out since I had put back the Greasemonkey and the scripts, I didn't update the fixes.
You will need to edit the script. Find this line:
liYourStuff.setAttribute('class', 'hover');
and change it to:
liYourStuff.setAttribute('class', 'dropdown');
and this
Open the script with an editor and change line 95 from:
var e_menu = e_menu_nav.childNodes[1];
to
var e_menu = e_menu_nav.childNodes[1].childNodes[1];
All is well with the world.

I'm guessing my problems don't lie with Firefox. I suspect the script needs updating. But I don't see a way to contact the author. I've looked, but all I see are links to scripts he's written. No email link. And I don't want to register for the site just to see if that makes a difference. The author of one of the scripts doesn't appear to have contributed anything recently.

I've found several geocaching-related Greasemonkey scripts to add on to Firefox. I especially like(d) GCComment. One of the things I liked about it was that it allowed you to write a comment about a cache, similar to the personal cache note already on the geocaching.com site. But these comments could be downloaded to my GPSr when I did a PQ or loaded the cache individually so they could be looked at in the field. At some point in the last couple of months, that part of the script disappeared. I no longer see any way to add these comments, although other parts of the script still work for me. Is anybody else out there using this script, and if so, can you tell me if you've experienced the same problem? I have the most current Firefox, which as of this writing is Firefox 24. How can I fix the problem?

I don't know the script you're referencing, but perhaps you or someone else is familiar with the one I'm having trouble with. I used to use GCBBCode when logging my cache, but it no longer works for me.. I think it stopped working after one of the recent Firefox upgrades, but it could very well be related to something else. I have tried disabling all the other scripts, but the problem doesn't resolve, so I don't *think* it's a conflict with another script. I could be wrong about that, though.
GCBBCode used to not only let me insert more (different) smileys and fonts/colors/styles into my logs, but it also had a section that allowed me to create a template so I could enter information ("a grup consisting of A, B, C, and D did the X trail today and called ourselves Y on the logs") more quickly when logging power trails or many finds on one day. Then I could add specific comments about specific cache after inserting the template information. I can't get that script to load anymore. The text entry box flashes, then disappears, and none of the other changes to the log page appear either. There is a little section of a few dots in the center of the page, which function as a text box resizer when other scripts are active. However, nothing happens when I try to pull the dots down, so that function is also disabled.
I don't know if there's a conflict with something else on the page, if I need to reconfigure something in the script, or if the script is no longer compatible with this version of Firefox. The script owner does not seem to be active, and the script has not been updated in a couple of years. Can anyone help me figure out what is wrong? I would really like to be able to use this script again.

If it's the right kind of snow (light and fluffy) and not too deep, I've also been able to take a branch and sweep some snow over my tracks. But mostly, like the others, I just try to make lots of extra tracks. That includes standing and stopping in a few spots so that the place I really spent time at (ie, found and logged the cache) doesn't stick out like a sore thumb.

Actually, I am fairly certain that this is exactly what happened on at least a few occasions, before I caught on to the problem of having the cache page open on multiple tabs. Since then, I've tried to be very aware of having just one instance of the page open when I save a note, and I also verify that the note has indeed saved before I leave the site. So that shouldn't be a factor any longer. Despite those efforts, I believe some recent cache notes have continued to disappear. My caching slows down with the change in the weather, so I am not logging many finds lately. But I will keep checking cache notes I've made on the finds I do log to see if the problem continues to occur. If it does, I will update this query. Thank you (all of you) for your efforts to help me sort out this problem.
I'm pretty sure I had cache notes on these (among others): http://coord.info/GC2R5F7, http://coord.info/GC19GVX, http://coord.info/GC26PN1. They are not puzzle caches and would not fall under the issue noted above. This one: http://coord.info/GC382FD is a puzzle cache, but I could swear I went back to add a cache note not so long ago and verified it was there before leaving the site.

Any chance you had the page open twice? Saved the note on one, but then go to edit it on a second copy? When I work on puzzles, I often find myself with the cache's description opened multiple times at once, so I run into that all the time. Try refreshing the page next time to see if the note you saved magically appears. (If you don't refresh the 2nd page in that case and instead add a second note, the second note will overwrite the first one.)

Without more details we can only speculate. Can you identify a cache on which you placed a note that is now missing?
I can't be sure about this, but there may have been one on this cache: http://coord.info/GC28CK3. I have cache notes on most of the other caches I found on this day, but not for this one, and I suspect I'd have written one.

I will try, though probably not tonight. In some cases, I restored the note to the best of my recollection, so there will be a (new) note now. (At least, I hope there will be when I go back to check!)

I see 252 cache notes owned by your account in the database. Are you certain that you are logged in when you are trying to view them?
To answer an earlier question, I am not using an app. Regrettably and unfortunately, the Android geocaching app doesn't allow us to write personal cache notes. To answer this question, yes, I am logged in when I try to read them.
Examples: On occasion, I have written cache notes while actively solving a puzzle cache. I enter north coordinates and then go back to solve the west coordinates. There are times when I discover the north coordinates are gone when I scroll back or switch tabs to enter the west coordinates minutes later. Somehow, although I would swear I'd clicked on Save, the note didn't save. That's frustrating enough, but usually quickly fixed. I just go back and add the information, make certain to save the note, and usually reload the page to verify that the cache note in its entirety is there. More often, I log a cache and add a personal cache note at the same time, only to discover days, weeks, or months later when I return to the cache page that the note isn't there anymore. I do it the same way each time: I write the note and I click on save. It's not rocket science. That should do it. And it appears to have done so when I check the page. So what can explain why some of them aren't there at later checks? I'll grant that there may be caches that I only thought I put a note on when I may actually not have, but in several recent instances, I am virtually certain that I did, since it's been a focus to do so.

Are you talking about the Personal Cache Notes? I use them all the time and have never lost one.

For the past several months, maybe a year, I've been trying to use cache notes on a regular basis to make notes on my finds as well as on any thoughts I might have when solving puzzle caches or progress made on multis. I want these notes so that I can more effectively help when someone asks me about a cache I've found. But I keep discovering that my cache notes have disappeared. It's quite frustrating. I am using Firefox (currently 17, and almost always the most current version, as I am on the update channel) and Windows Vista. I have had this happen on multiple occasions on multiple caches, and as far as I can tell, I'm not doing anything to cause it. I simply come back to a cache page days, weeks, or months later and discover that my note is no longer there.

I downloaded the Whereyougo app last week. I've tried to play the tutorial a couple of times. But each time, it tells me that my GPS signal is weak, and that I should move around and see if it gets stronger. I did that, but it didn't help. I discovered I could (need to?) turn on the GPS *inside* the app in addition to turning it on through my normal means (Settings, basically). I generally got 10/10 satellites, though a few times I got 11/11. How many satellites does it need to find before it gets a strong enough signal to work? And if that's not the issue, what is? I'm hoping to do my first Wherigo in the field in about twelve hours, so I'd really like to have an idea of what's wrong. Thanks!

What does this mean in terms of actual use? I just downloaded the app last week from the Android Market and want to test it out tomorrow. (Having trouble with the tutorial, which I'll post about elsewhere.) Does this have any impact on the version currently available?

i was wondering if anybody knows how to edit or remove waypoints on the android app,i can add one but the numbers were wrong and put me inthe ukraine some place.
I don't know the answer to this question, but I'd like to know how you found the waypoint you created. I know how to add a waypoint, but I can't find anything on the app that lets me look at the added waypoints at a later date.

Yes, I know but January 23 has been on Monday. After having logged out and logged in again, the date was set to January 25, however. Still pretty strange, in particular as I have never had this effect before.

Earlier it was lagging (in Europe) because the date followed Seattle time, but the difference was max 1 day.
Now it seems to default to the date of the previous log.
I logged a cache on 1/26 and two on 1/29, and all three posted as having been found on 1/15/2012. A Needs Maintenance note on one of them posted with the correct date, however.

The cache descriptions themselves give a lot away? I don't understand...
Some of the Ground Zero puzzles I've found do give instructions about how to solve them, but other GZ cache owners want these kept as true puzzle caches and require the solvers to figure out how to go about doing that. Putting the links to all the puzzles I found would reveal more than the latter COs want revealed.

Yeah, it kind of sounds like it's unsolveable. I bet there are many that have tried to solve it in the past year, but have failed and just passed it over without ever posting anything on the cache page. The CO probably hasn't even realized that no one is finding it or that the puzzle has changed. You might want to post a note saying you're having problems solving it. That might get some of those failed-solvers to pipe up and say that they ran into problems too.
Well, I can give it a try. If other would-be solvers chime in, maybe I'll get a response. I won't hold my breath, though.

I think they're talking about caches like this one. The "recent change" would have been to something in the background of the site, so I doubt there was any kind of official notice anywhere.
I thought I had figured out a quick to solve these, but after trying the Geochecker on a couple of them, I guess that method doesn't work. I can think of how I might go about it, though.
I guess if your particular cache doesn't mention offsets, then they're not required. The owner may have changed the cache sufficiently to accomodate the website change. I won't spell it all out for you, because doing so would be a massive hint, but I can see why the offsets would be different for different locations. Really, if the owner isn't responding, and it's been "driving you nuts", I'd just contact a previous finder and ask for a hint.
Yup. That's the kind of cache I'm talking about. However, my guess is that the particular cache I'm talking about doesn't mention them because the CO is either not aware of the change or isn't motivated to do anything about it. The cache has only been found by a few people. I have only met one of them, and I did send a message asking about it. But he found it a couple of years ago, so I'm not hopeful he'll be very helpful in determining any needed offsets, though I'm hoping he can confirm my guess as to the general area I expect it to be found. The last find on it was over a year ago, so even that finder may not know anything about needed offsets.

But this cache does a good job of hinting at what needs to be done without being too explicit and also gives an example of "you must offset the location you get in this manner": http://coord.info/GCM2PD. You mean the "Personal Cache Note" field on every cache page? It's located just above the description.
Also, in the app, when you're looking at a cache, right below "Hint" is the "Notepad". This field is linked to the "Personal Cache Note" field on the website.
You must have the iPhone app. The Android app doesn't have a notepad feature. But I sure wish it did! (Besides being tremendously helpful, it would have prevented me from posting something on a cache page I did NOT want to be seen by anyone but me, which happened because I mistakenly used the field note feature.)
Field notes are not visible on cache pages. You have to convert a field note into a log either through the website or through the API using a 3rd party program like GSAK. The only thing that would be visible to others is a log.

There's a Ground Zero puzzle cache in my area that's been driving me nuts for over a year, for various reasons. By looking at previous logs and doing some crosschecking, I have now determined the general area that cache is located in, but the closest I can get my coordinates to that area is down the street a couple of tenths of a mile away. Last night I did a little research on other Ground Zero caches in other states, and I noticed that all three of the ones I found have updated information (from November/December 2011) saying that once the users have determined how to get the ground zero coordinates for the location, "due to a recent change on the Geocaching.com website, you need to offset the numbers you got [as follows]". But the numbers all three of those pages use to offset both the north and west coordinates differ. (i.e. one says to add 0.816 to the North coords and another says to add 0.239 to North, etc.) My questions:
1) How are these offsets determined?
2) Do they differ depending on the location (state) of the cache?
3) If they don't differ, why do all three of the cache pages I'm looking at for reference purposes use different offsets?
4) How can I find out what offsets to use for the cache I'm looking at?
The cache page I'm looking at does not have a cache owner note about changes to the website affecting the calculations of the location, and the cache owner has been unresponsive in the past when I've contacted him about this and other caches he is responsible for, so asking him seems to be a useless endeavor.
