  1. elgecko, You could post the bug picture somewhere else, and link to it, say maybe post it on your own webpage and add a link just like you do with the map. This way you could manipulate the field where you add in the map. You could also resize the map. Try this code: <img src="BUGIMAGENAME" width=400 height=300> I am just guessing on the width and height, but you can plan with the pixel sizes. Hope this helpls.
  2. Darn that WJTB moves quickly. I am glad it's not being hoarded!
  3. Bahamadiver, Keeping a Jeep is just as bad as keeping anyone's travel bug. Would you like it if someone kept yours for their collection? No? Well, that's how everyone else feels about people who keep Jeeps. Thanks. Happy caching!
  4. Sounds like the same conversation we are having in this Thread.
  5. Fledermaus, I think you are taking offense to what is posted, because you feel guilty and know you are doing something against the rules. I am glad you realize this, however it is sad that you can't listen to your own thoughts. Here's the facts, the WJTB's are TRAVEL BUGS, they are supposed to travel. You do not own the Jeep. It is not yours to loan out. Unless Jeep specifically appointed you to hold this bug and loan it out, then it isn't your place to do so. Don't get me wrong, I empathize with you regarding the situation of people hoarding/stealing/whatever the Jeeps. However, since you were lucky enough to find a Jeep, why not do what you need to do with it, then send it on its way? If you release it and it disappears, then you at least know that you did what was right and gave somebody else a chance. It is on their head that they stole it or whatever. However, if you do what you are doing, you are really just as bad as the people who are keeping them. No one really has a chance to find the one you have. Another question, are you going to release your WJTB after the contest? If I had to guess, I would guess probably not. You will probably keep "loaning" it out. I would close by saying if you are feeling that you need to be defensive, then there is a good reason behind that. Think about that and do what is right.
  6. Fledermaus, You must already realize what you are doing is against the rules, or you wouldn't have posted the way you did. My question to you is why you think it is right to have a TB "sitting on top of your computer monitor", instead of "TRAVELING" around. Yes, take pictures, whatever.... But when you are done, put it back out there for everyone else! If it's in your area, put it back in a hard cache, or any cache for that matter. Why is it so hard for people to understand the rules? If you keep it and "loan" it out to cachers, you are acting like you own it. Well, you don't, Jeep/Groundspeak does. So do what is asked and set it free when you are done. Don't get me wrong, I completely understand WHY you are doing what you are, but it does not help the rest of us who are playing the game correctly. My final question to you, is would this WJTB sit on your monitor forever? If not, when did you plan on releasing it? Why?
  7. Vargseld? ™, It doesn't have to do with only how bad you want one. I am currently doing a search within 100 mile radius of my house and there are 0 WJTB's. So yes, I guess I could go further, but why bother if those caches will be empty when I get there? Don't ignore the fact that these are too scarce. If you look at the numbers 5000 WJTB's were put out. There are 189461 active caches in the world. Also, I believe there are roughly 100,000 in the US. This means that 5% of the caches should have WJTB's if no one kept them. So in a 25 mile radius of my house there are 383 caches. So in a perfect world there should be 19 WJTB's in caches. Now yes, some are micros, so they can't hold WJTB's. However, remember there are 0 in 100 miles of my house. I understand people hold them, but this has been the way it has been since they came out in June. There was only 2 that showed up in local caches and 1 disappeared, the other was grabbed quickly. Also, a local cacher just moved a WJTB by handing it off to his friend. This has been the case with almost all WJTB's that are local. No one sees them except the people who originally got them and their close friends. This is the issue, this is what will kill the game.
  8. WH, I agree, a cacher who is trusted by Groundspeak to distribute them, then keeps has no integrity. This is what kills the very game they are a big part of. I suggest if anyone knows for a fact that a person trusted to distribute these is keeping them, that they report them to Groundspeak. Don't know that Groundspeak will care, but it is in violation of the rules and kills the fun of the game for everyone. Besides that the Jeeps are really the property of Groundspeak and Jeep. It's like going out and stealing someone else's TB that they paid good money for. It is not a fair way to play. Also, I do not have a big problem with a cacher that goes out to a cache and finds a WJTB and keeps it FOR A WHILE. Now if they keep it and do what is supposed to be done, by taking pictures, etc... That's ok. But the problem occurs when they keep it for extende periods and no one else has a chance. This is why I say the contest isn't really a contest. As I said before why even have it, if it's really not a contest anyhow.
  9. TeamZebra, What you say is exactly how I feel and what I was trying to express. Why log bugs at an evetn, just to get your numbers? That's stupid. Yes, if you find a bug at an event, that's fine, but put it in a cache!!! Don't just log it from a picnic table full of other bugs!!! Preach on! BooBooBee, I realize things can happen to TB's. However, everyone must have integrity. If you know that you did not willfully keep Jeeps, then there is no reason to explain. The problem occurs when people have no integrity and just keep Jeeps for no reason other than to keep them and hoard them.
  10. Atlanta Girl, I am in Lancaster County, PA. Keeping a WJTB for a couple weeks in order to take a picture would be acceptable. However, keeping one for numerous months is the problem. Some are kept forever. I really don't understand what satisfaction people get out of ruining the game for a small hunk of plastic/metal.
  11. I know what you mean. I had 2 YJTB's, but moved them as fast as I could. The white ones are so rare, I haven't even seen one, other than in pictures. People don't understand that they are called "TRAVEL" bugs, not "event" bugs, or "hoard me" bugs. It's really just worthless to even have a contest if they jeeps are only given out at one place, then distributed amongst a small group of individuals, then hoarded. Why bother? Don't get me wrong. I love the game. However, there's not much of a game when people don't play it fairly.
  12. <rant> Why even have a contest like the Jeep contest? People just seem to hoard the WJTB's and last year's YJTB's anyhow. I have 24 WJTB's on my watchlist and none of them have moved in the last 3-4 weeks or more!!! Most of these even have 0 miles on them. Why not either put out more WJTB's or just do the contest a different way or don't do the contest at all? If people are going to hoard them there is no point to even having them. </rant>
  13. Jeremy, This feature would be awesome. Would a search for individual users show that they have combined hides? Or would you have to search the group to see the hides? It would be nice to have the group linked back to the users so you could search either on the users or the group and find the caches both ways. If this is what you meant, sorry. Thanks for the response.
  14. Is it possible to have more than one owner for a cache? If so, how do you enter this in the listing screen? Will both users be able to modify the cache listing and attributes like any other cache that you own? Thanks Matt mcl143
  15. Yes, it does work if you click the locationless type from the user stats. I was just wondering why it wasn't showing up when I did a search on myself, but would show up in my stats. Not a big deal. Just wanted to see if anyone else was having the same issue. Thanks. Matt mcl143
  16. I understand that it won't show up as near me. However, it should at least show up when you do a search on the caches your or someone else has found.
  17. Yeah that's exactly what I am talking about. That's pretty weird that it won't show up in Seek a cache, but shows up under statistics.
  18. Last night I logged a bunch of finds. 1 find was a Locationless cache. Every other cache shows up in my finds and increases my total. However, if I do a search for my finds this cache does not show up. But, if you search my user stats the cache shows up and the count it right. Anyone know what's going on? Does it take a while for the server to cacht up or something?
  19. I haven't received my Pocket Queries in 3 days now. I don't get it. I hope they are trying to fix the site. Seems pointless to pay for something that isn't reliable.
  20. Do pictures of YJTB's count this year (2005)? Or are the only pictures that are valid of WJTB's?
  21. I currently own a Gecko 101. My primary goal is to have a good GPS for geocaching and hiking. Traveling diredtions would be my secondary goal. I really want something pretty versatile, that I am able to download waypoints and have an accurate direction even if standing still. Not sure if all the Magellan units have this or not. I know the Vista does.
  22. I am deciding between a Garmin Vista, Magellan Explorist 400, or a Magellan Meridian series GPS. Please help me decide. Which is best for loading information? Which has best maps? Preloaded or for purchase? Why do you recommend this?
  23. Is it possible yet to search for caches in a general direction and radius from a certain Waypoint or set of coordinates? I am new to Geocaching, so maybe I am not doing something right. I just didn't see an option for this. It would be nice to be able to pick your home coordinates and search for all caches say to the North East within 10 miles. Thanks for any responses.
