  1. Here's 2 prime examples of logs that make me laugh. How can people actually log this stuff and mean it. I too was at this cache and "eye-balled" the location. However, I logged it as a DNF! March 12 by XXXX (1332 found) Logging this find with the owners permission, as we eye-balled the exact hiding location, confirmed with the owners over yummy pizza in Mount Joy. Lpyankeefan and I were craze-caching along the Rt#30 corridor. Despite the unreal shopping frenzy at this site, we had an excellent survey of gz, and the coords were right on the money. Thanks friends. March 12 by XXXX (678 found) In the area today caching along with Snurt when we decided to search for this one. Search WE DID! First for the entrance to the business, second for a parking space, third for the cache! Spent quite a few minutes at GZ searching and re-reading previous logs on the PDA. Finally broke out the phone and called one of the cache owners himself. He confirmed that we were searching in the right place and told us since the cache was MIA and we didn't know when we would be back to the area to log a find. This was my twenty-fourth cache find of the day, 666th find overall, found this one at 1:45 PM. TFTC!
  2. You may be right on the fact that it would encourage the theft of coins from caches. This points to the fact that the person would have to first be a cacher and be able to find the coins to sell. I was from the thinking that these people are not cachers and have no connection to geocaching except for selling coins. If you think these are people stealing coins from caches and selling them for profit that is a whole different ballgame. I still believe these people are just finding the right sites to buy them from and selling for a nice profit. This in and of itself to me is ok and will eventually lead to the decline in useless geocoins.
  3. True, it isn't totally unethical to tell someone where to buy them direct for less if they are still currently for sale. However, it does undermine the current sale and could hurt the seller. There may be legitimate reasons that you don't realize at first for the higher price (i.e. rare coin, portion to charity, etc). However, on the flip side, leaving activities like this alone will hopefully bring an end to the rampant production of geocoins. If someone tries to get into geocoins by buying from Ebay, it would be a pretty good lesson if they end up buying a USA Geocoin for $19.99. My thoughts just revolve around most people that will buy these coins on Ebay most likely have nothing to do with geocaching. They are just trying to collect coins to resell. So let them buy them at a high price. They will most likely not be able to sell them again, so maybe they will get into geocaching and set the coins free. Wouldn't that be a novel idea. Actually putting these coins in caches.
  4. You know, I really don't like the idea of someone undermining an auction by telling the bidders where to get stuff cheaper. This isn't geocoin specific. Think about what would happen if everyone did this for other products as well. Ebay could theoretically become a place where sellers would lose money. For instance, if you tell someone they can get USA Geocoins for $4.00 + shipping from somewhere else, you may miss the fact that this auction has a rare coin. This one originally listed by the OP seems to be a version 1 USA Geocoin and in fact may be rare. This is a value added to the coin. Why be unethical yourself and undermine someone else's sale. I have not sold coins on ebay, but may sell a few of my own someday. However, if I need to make extra to pay for the ebay fees and paypal fees, and possibly my time and energy, it would make me angry to find out someone is e-maililng my bidders and telling them where to get my coins cheaper. This is unethical behavior that is just as bad as an auction that stretches the truth. If you want to have morals sell your coins at cost and don't worry about what others are doing. This is just my take. ----------- mcl143
  5. I got the e-mail a couple minutes too late. Will there be more orders?
  6. Lux, I will post again, since you obviously missed my previous post. What is wrong with getting written approval for placing the caches?
  7. Lux, I think the approvers have made it pretty clear that if you can provide proof that the land owner/manager is ok with these caches that they may be approved. Is there an issue with getting the approval of the land owner/manager? If so, then I would suggest that it may not be a good idea to hide these. I have caches in public parks, even though these are micros I still got approval, because of the legal issues. My suggestions for resolving this are: 1. Get written approval 2. Take pictures of the locations and give them to the approver. 3. Make sure your description clearly states which side of the tracks to be on, and how to approach. If you do these things I am sure the approver would be better equipped to approve or further evaluate your cache. If you have done this already, then maybe it is time to give up if the approver still says no.
  8. The Delaware coins are really nice. Mine arrived today!
  9. Are there going to be any more Santa geocoins up on ebay? I would love one, but somehow keep missing the auctions. Does anyone "in the know" have any idea on when another auction might pop up? Or is it just easier to keep refreshing my page?
  10. If you follow the cache placement guidelines and get these caches approved by the landowner/manager they would be fine. However, I doubt you will get approval if you go up to a judge and ask to place a cache in the court room. Just follow the clear guidelines and these caches should be fine.
  11. Maybe I am out of it, or just haven't dug around enough, but who won the 2005 Sweepstakes for the Commander?
  12. Finally received mine today. Thanks, this is a great looking coin!
  13. Still haven't received mine here in Pennsylvania!
  14. This should be posted undert the thread in the Geocaching Website section. I totally agree with this statement.
  15. Sorry if this is a little off topic. What is the difference between the Annual Premium Membership (Does not renew) $30/year Annual Premium Membership (Renews Annually)? They are both $30, does one bill you annually without any user interface?
  16. PA surely needs some Delugly's in caches. Sign me up to put some in caches around my area!
  17. Vargseld? ™, Right or wrong it is simple supply and demand and capitalism at its best. I would also suggest that these people are spending their valuable time and money getting these coins to the market. They should be reimbursed for their time. Time is valuable, so why not be compensated for it. A coin is only worth what others will pay for it. Just like everything else in the world. If someone is willing to pay more, then charging more seems ok. The flip side is that if a coin is too expensive the person will be sitting with a lot of coins and a hefty bill that others are not willing to help with. Just my take on it.
  18. rossiter78, The goal of all Jeep TB's is the same "Log your visit, and move me to a new geocache!". This should not be changed, it will preserve the integrity of the game if people follow this simple rule.
  19. I hope they either discontinue the contest, or just put jeeps out that aren't trackable. Non-TB jeeps would put the excitement back in the game and keep people from stealing them. This way they would be give-aways that would just show up in caches. Same prestige, but less bickering. Get rid of the contest and just put out a crap load of untrackable jeeps. It is basically a marketing stunt anyhow. Why do we need the contest?
  20. Oh, yeah... can't wait for the sale of these.
  21. Saying that you have a yellow jeep "in stock". Is just like saying "I have some stolen property in stock". The jeeps are TRAVEL BUGS. Not for you to keep and only release when you get a new one. Sorry to burst your bubble, but if you always keep one, this limits the number that other cachers can see. Do the right thing and let it go.
