  1. I agree with a couple of GLM's picks that probably could have been included in my list.

Rappahanock Reconnaissance was an outstanding cache that just disappeared suddenly along with OlyHippy. I didn't want to add too many archived ones since I thought this might be a good list for anyone wanting to identify and go find the caches on the list.

The other one I agree wholeheartedly with is Moonshine Mountain. The only reason I left it off is the distance from the rest of the others since it's a good 80 miles from here.

JoeC, Au Naturel is a good one, the area would be great for traditional caches but I guess they aren't too cache friendly - yet. I would suggest that you try to hit some of the other good ones out that way while you are at it. Having just done a few out that way on a western swing I hit Order of the Phoenix, Old Dominion Happy, Stonewall, and Primal Instinct. GLM and I tried to get to Solitary Confinement but the park was closed so I just kept going north and grabbed Ashby gap and Bear's Den before heading back east going over to Purcellville for the B-Team's bunch there.

This would definitely make for a full day.

  2. OK here's my list in no particular order:

The Naked Eye by The CacheRats

Arlington Book Cache by Mike and Jen (archived)

    Tayloe's Iron Works by oilbux

    Summer of '69 by bspeng

Scott's Run Mystery Cache by JoeCthulhu

    Au Naturel Experience by GaiterMan

    Cannon Fire by Disquoi

    Colvin Mill Run by RobAGD

    Easter Egg Hunt by Flowerman

    Primal Instinct by BeachBuddies

I went for a mix of difficulty, hikes, creativity and puzzles and intentionally did not duplicate any hiders (or include any of mine).

  3. West longitudes may be represented as a negative number by some mapping programs (that lack a N/W designation) thereby causing strange outputs. Try that and see if it works better.

  4. Somehow missed this milestone a few days ago.

After helping me out on a cache today and logging in after him I noted his achievement of this feat.

    Congrats on attaining "diehard" status!!!

  5. It's all matchups at this point. I did it to myself though by waiting a while to take a QB. I went RB heavy since I was burned last year with injuries and just plain lousy performances with grabbing a QB high (can you say Warner and A-Train) and waiting on the RBs. We'll see how it works out.

What killed me last week was picking Rice over Chad Johnson - oh well.

  6. Getting beat by 1 point sucks even worse.

I'll just take it out on someone else this week. icon_wink.gif

Let's see I'm in 8 various football leagues at this point (went 5-3 which I hope to improve on this week). Also finishing up 2 baseball leagues (not sure I'll do that again though - way too long and involved for me)

  7. We are always watching for milestones, it's just a little harder to do now that the stats are not as readily available.

  8. I can't say that I know of one that is quite definitive.

Here are a few that might be close:

Moonshine Mountain - a great hike over fun terrain

No Parking? - just plain hard to figure out the next step

Summer of '69 - we have some swamp too

    Les Anges Volantes

Cannon Fire - two great math/puzzle caches

And lastly Blood n' Guts in VA - can't really categorize since no one has found it.

Of course VA is a fairly big state and these selections come from a Northern VA point of view. Hopefully others will chime in as well.

  9. South Run is a good option.

Fairfax County has a lot of stream valley parks that are potentially good spots. Since they are zoned as a flood plain they can't be developed. Check a topo map for any of the major runs or streams that feed into the Potomac River. Pohick, Accotink, South Run all come to mind.

Also here's a new park that may be worth a look.

    Hope this helps some.

  10. I perform maintenance as a member of the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club (PATC) on the Bull Run/Occoquan Trail (BROT). My section is from Rt 28 to Little Rocky Run (basically in Centerville and Clifton VA). Since we will be leaving the NoVA area in the next few months, this section (only ~1.5 miles) will need a new overseer.

As stated above the duties are not all that difficult - clearing back brush, cleaning water traps, some trail marking, etc. It's a great opportunity to give back to the trails and there are some side benefits as well.

If anyone is interested please let me know. You do need to be a member of the PATC or you can join for ~$25.

  11. My comments were pure trash talking in response to someone else bragging about their team on this thread earlier. It got me curious so I looked it up - not that hard to do since the league ID was posted previously.

Perhaps this was a bit much for your tastes, but that's the way the FFL game is usually (and preferrably) played. I would expect the same if I was bragging about my team (which of course I will do icon_wink.gif )

Can't really say I'm sorry about it though since I was very careful not to bring in anyone's name or their specific picks. As far as I'm concerned this was just an observation of a public draft. Not a lot of integrity or morality issues involved here so, to steal a line from Stripes, "lighten up Francis"

  12. Not a joke icon_eek.gif

    Here's the first 2 rounds:

    1.01 Holmes, Priest (RB-KC)

    1.02 Moss, Randy (WR-Min)

    1.03 Faulk, Marshall (RB-StL)

    1.04 Williams, Ricky (RB-Mia)

    1.05 Portis, Clinton (RB-Den)

    1.06 McAllister, Deuce (RB-NO)

    1.07 Oakland (DEF-Oak)

    1.08 Vick, Michael (QB-Atl)

    1.09 McNabb, Donovan (QB-Phi)

    1.10 Canidate, Trung (RB-Was)

    1.11 Tomlinson, LaDainian (RB-SD)

    1.12 Brady, Tom (QB-NE)

    2.01 James, Edgerrin (RB-Ind)

    2.02 Culpepper, Daunte (QB-Min)

    2.03 Gonzalez, Tony (TE-KC)

    2.04 Taylor, Fred (RB-Jac)

    2.05 Green, Ahman (RB-GB)

    2.06 Harrison, Marvin (WR-Ind)

    2.07 Owens, Terrell (WR-SF)

    2.08 Price, Peerless (WR-Atl)

    2.09 Gannon, Rich (QB-Oak)

    2.10 Dillon, Corey (RB-Cin)

    2.11 Alexander, Shaun (RB-Sea)

    2.12 Brooks, Aaron (QB-NO)

This looks like it was an auto draft so that probably explains a lot of it.

  13. Um, that is a strange draft. Let's see Oakland Def and Trung Canidate in the 1st round? Tomlinson doesn't go til #11? Granted I didn't look at the scoring rules so I'll just put it down as unconventional

  14. I was more than a little surprised by this announcement also.

I have corresponded with Klause on a couple of occasions and he was nice enough to move a cache I placed last year to a new location. My dealings with him personally via email/forums and through the search for several of his excellent caches have been an all-around outstanding experience.

On one hand I'm sad to see him go, but if he has achieved his goals then I guess it's a personal decision to go out while on top.

    Best wishes and good luck!!!

  15. I just noticed this milestone accomplishment while logging into another cache.

Congrats to one of DC/NoVA's premier cachers and cache hiders!!

  16. I have to agree with Enfanta here. My level of effort in the log is generally a reflection of my perceived effort that went into the cache. Call this quality or lack of the same, but a leaky, ill planned/maintained, thin plastic salad container chucked into a hole is not my ideal cache. Rather than offend someone who may not know any better, I prefer to make a minimal comment and save my remarks for something better.

Clearly, there are caches that probably should just go away on both the virtual and traditional side of the tracks. I don't happen to feel the need to be the police since cache Darwinism will eventually kick in on it's own.

  17. I may have a little trouble with the 6pm time since that translates to 3pm on the right coast. My computer at work is very picky when it comes to internet applications. I suspect the html version might run OK, but I would hate to find out the hard way. I may just have to auto draft a round or two and try to beat the DC traffic home.

Any way to test it in advance?

Also is trading of draft picks allowed?

  18. Just saw the log on one of my caches and there is was - a nice, round half a thousand.

  19. The first 100 is the best and probably most satisfying milestone.

Good job and keep up your great efforts!!!
