  1. I read on somebody's FB that the Mayans didn't account for leap days, since they weren't invented yet. Therefore, 12/21/12 happened a few months ago, according to their calendar. ;)

And the person who wrote that has no understanding of the Mayan calender.

Its on based on days, not solar cycles. Leap day doesn't make a difference.

  2. I am the Secretary of the Ontario Geocaching Association and I hardly think we are doing nothing. What the president tweets about on her personal twitter page is her business and there is nothing unprofessional about it. The OGA does not find anything about this situation amusing, nor have we ignored it. I find your post downright offensive we put a lot of VOLUNTEER man hours into what we do and we don't take any of it lightly so your claim is completely out of line.

Just ignore the one who posts a deliberately provocative message to a newsgroup or message board with the intention of causing maximum disruption and argument.

  3. Second Message to CO:

You can choose to ignore this, but be prepared for a bunch of DNF logs (maybe even an NA log). My neighbour has asked me what your response was to this. When I told him you had ignored it (for over a week now) he was not happy. He felt you have not taken responsibility for your role in this and the concern it is causing. In his words "if he isn't going to do anything about this I will just throw it in the garbage."

I do not wish to see any caches thrown in the garbage. I have asked him to let me attempt to contact you one more time. So this is it. How do you propose to deal with this?

In my view as the CO - you have a responsibility here. Time to step up to it.

If I got that type of tone in an email you would go right to my ignore list.

Which I'm sure happens to you all the time.

    Bad boys

    Bad boys

    Whatcha gonna do?

    Whatcha gonna do when

    AneMae comes for you?

  4. The ticket booths are pretty much right in the middle of the park, so it definitely shouldn't have been there.

So you have to go into the park to buy tickets to get into the park?

Sorry, that's nitpicky. Ticket booths are outside the park though, although it's all Disney property. Same difference I suppose.

The trams from the parking area drive up to an open area between two Disney parks: Disneyland and California Adventure. You can also walk into that area from outside the park. You are definitely on the Disney property and you can buy or pick up tickets at the booths there; however you have not entered through either attraction's gates. I've always thought of it as the middle as well.

Heard the a.m. news report that ended with the "fact" that it was a geocache. Later reports mentioned the spiritual paper instead. As crowded as that area is, I can not even imagine the "stealth" folks wanting to place a cache there. Maybe that's just me.

Most people do consider it the middle. Its the intersection of the 3 major areas.

  5. Pet Peeve for my single cache:

I wish more people found it, but its at least a 2 mile walk. And in L.A. thats unheard of!

Passing on the right is unsafe. I don't do it and I hate when people do it to me. That's why, even if I'm doing 20 over and passing traffic, I'll still move to the right when someone comes flying up behind me. Sure, go ahead, pass me. What do I care? I don't have some kind of super-ego. I don't need to be the fastest person on the road. I don't see the need to force people on the road to travel at the same speed as, or slower than, me. I'm not law enforcement. I'm not out there to make sure people obey the law. I'm out there so I can get to point B.

I'm not going to make an unsafe situation even more unsafe by forcing someone to pass on the right.

I really wish there were more people on the road like you. And less people who feel the need to slow others down because of their ego, or some power trip. They create an unsafe road that I don't want to drive on.

  6. be careful lifting that lamp post cover.

I got 12 days jail due to one.

You actually spent 12 days in Jail! wow that must have been tough! that's crazy!

sounds like there is more to the story - 12 days for lifter a lamp post cover? that would be laughed right out of court.

He wasnt sentenced to 12 days. He got caught in a lock down.

  7. I've had a neighborhood lady aggressively question my presence in an area once. After I showed her my GPS and a few printouts, and assured here I wasn't here to vandalize property or tamper with anything, just looking, she settled down and let me continue searching. I didn't find it that time, though. And it ended up being on the other side of a high wall about 30 ft from where my GPS zeroed out so if she pressed me to show her what it was that I was supposedly "looking for", it could have been a problem.

If you were on public land, there would have been no problem. You do not have to respond to these people.

And there are plenty of ways you can respond to them to make them walk aways.

Speak in gibberish. This always confuses people.

Stick your finger up your nose and dig while staring at them in the eyes, saying nothing.

Or one of my favorites, learn a few things in sign language, and speak to them that way. When they are screaming and realize that you "can't" hear them, they will change their demenour quickly.

  8. Whether or not you log this visit as a find or as a note shouldn't matter to anyone.

In that case, why not log the same visit as 1,000 finds? It doesn't hurt anybody else, so why should it matter to anyone else?

I think the OP implicitly asked what the general consensus was regarding how to log return trips to a cache to place a trackable. The answer is clear: Log it with a "Write Note" rather than as an additional "Found It" (or 1,000 "Found Its").

I agree Toz, I mean you can go on all day with your theoretical argument (and I'm sure you will :D), but it's a pretty moot point when statistically, no one logs mulitple finds for revisiting caches. Just tell the poor guy what the consensus is.

Some people do. My buddy does. It doesn't bother me much.

  9. Common Sense: The Cambridge Dictionary defines it as, "the basic level of practical knowledge and judgment that we all need to help us live in a reasonable and safe way".

I can tell by the last few posts that "common sense" is not as common as I thought. It is clear some people are just trying to push buttons.

Like I said before my points have been made clearly enough here and I am done. It is in your hands to be on the right side or the wrong side of this issue. Yes I think it is pretty black and white, for obvious reasons.

    See you on the trails.

Common sense would tell you to not alienate a group of people that share a hobby with you because you disagree w/ them. You are not one to talk about common sense.

  10. I have sent the CO of the caches I am concerned about a message expressing my reservations, and a link to the blog post.

I hope they do not take offence, but I feel being proactive on this is important.

what exactly is your concern with this caches? i don't see anything remotely making them look real

That picture looks exactly like what I was reaching for before it started sparking.
