... but I doubt that Ecylram and most others who have been denigrating park n grabs in this thread were referring awesome PnGs.
I think the issue most people have with these caches is not park n grabs per se, but with the flood of mundane ones that makes finding the gems a chore.
Actually, I'm not interested in denigrating P&G's. I've found a lot o them and I own two caches that could be considered P&G's. My original question was why a cacher would want to place 100's of caches that don't generate interesting logs. I figured it had to do with something more than "numbers" but nobody seemed to come up with a better explanation than "numbers".
The topic now seems to be P&G's in general. I'm not anti-P&G. I think Brian is right, many are tired of seeing so many FC's in LPC's and see too-few creative/entertaining/challenging micro hides.
I've given several favorite points to micros that were more than FC's under a rock or in an LPC. Wish I could award more but those types of micros are hard to come by.

No one said I was entitled to an area - but the guideline it just that, it suggests caches are not placed within 160m of others but this is not a hard and fast rule. I guess I'm just a bit depressed that an unimaginative nano is stopping my cache getting listed for the sake of +/- 20m. Still, tomorrow I'll be sober and won't care so much that I climbed a couple of times across that tree to place a cache that won't get listed.
Didn't you check the area for nearby caches before submitting your cache?
-
It shows up correctly now, but I didn't change any browser settings after the OP. Strange.
Perhaps they brought up a backup server with old cached data in preparation for the update????
-
I'm not knocking park n' grabs. I've grabbed more than my fair share and even given favorite points to some. I'm also not knocking those who put out a few simple LPC's. I've even got two caches that probably qualify as P&G's (though they are pretty unique).
My wonder is the fascination is with the very few who will put out hundreds of nearly identical unimaginative P&G's. It seems the thrill of the TFTC! logs would lose it's appeal after the first dozen or two.
I suppose the best answer so far is some sort of satisfaction gained from a large number.
Coldgears - yes, I live in an area which is heavily saturated with caches which probably colors my view a bit. If I lived in an area with very few caches the idea of a couple of hundred new ones would probably sound pretty good, even if they were all the same thing.

I appreciate the responses to far.
My intent is not to knock generic P&G's with this question, though I'm very burnt out on them right now. They do serve a purpose and I understand placing a few.
What I wonder about is why some people enjoy placing hundreds of them. The vast majority of the logs for generic P&G's are not much more than "TFTC!". But, obviously some people enjoy getting lots of generic log entries.
Its hard to put out interesting caches. It takes the rusty gears in my mind weeks to gestate and then create a cache, so I've placed very few. But...I'd love to have more out because I enjoy the log entries so much. To me, it makes the maintenance issues worthwhile.
To me, a hundred TNLNSL's or TFTC's don't compare to the less frequent log entries like this:
I just couldn't resist...!It was somwhat difficult to open the case and my eyes were really surprised at the sight of the content (somewhat like in the film PULP FICTION on opening the suitcase) and I haven't had so much fun in discovering a cache since I found '300' in Germany
What else can I say: he side effects are in full expansion now and next to the long log entry, I will soon move my fingers towards directing the inevitable consequence: Favorite point
TFTC !!!!!!!!
But that's my bias. I'm just trying to understand the other extreme.
-
...and I'm serious about wanting an explanation.
"What is the enjoyment some cachers get for placing hundreds of generic P&G's?"
I enjoy getting long log entries and hearing the interesting stories that came out of search. I like getting favorite points. (I know you're not supposed to admit that.) What enjoyment do others get out of placing hundreds of generic P&G's that generate TFTC! logs and very few favorite points? You open up your email and get a bunch of nearly identical & generic log posts, what fun is that?
There has to be some enjoyment from doing this, or else it wouldn't continue. I'm quite serious about the question. I can see placing a few 'dull' caches when you're new and then going..."this isn't much fun"...but to place hundreds? I don't get it.
What am I missing?

Mods...it's clear the OP wants this thread closed.
How about it?
-
You mean, all of these IBTL posts were done in vain?
That is soooo sad.
not to mention the OP 's request that this thread be locked. Usually that request is granted.

It probably would have been best to have contacted the owner before fixing their cache.
In what way does this act of community maintenance make a bad situation worse?
That's what I used to think.
What is? I was asking a question, not stating a position.
It's one thing when you're helping out an active owner and saving them a trip. However, caches that aren't being maintained by the owner just continue to have problems.
There are even some owners in our area that believe that the finders should do their cache maintenance for them. One in particular has placed a large number of caches and does no maintenance - wet logs, broken containers, etc. It's a horror show hitting their caches. If they were archived, other (probably better) caches would come in to replace them.
I can see that. But it's not obvious that's the case in this instance. Seems to me it's at least possible this was a case of saving an active owner a trip. So is there a reason to disparage the OP's action?
That, again, is a question for which I'd be interested in an answer, not a rhetorical device, in case I wasn't clear.
Because if the CO was doing their job then the OP would not be posting a message on this board asking for a way to clear a NM without involving the owner. Not to mention the CO never acknowledged the original NM or took any action on it.

112 miles from Denver to Cripple Creek.
We picked up a Travel Bug that a kid had placed and wanted to go to Cripple Creek. We used that as an excuse for a road trip.
It was an enjoyable day and we got a nice email from the father.

I just wanted to ask if there are other GreenCachers like me. Every sunday or other free weeday I take a ride on my bike equipped with my Smartphone and MP3-Player to find new caches in my region.
I couldn't believe my eyes when I first read, that people actually take their car just for geocaching. It was obvious for me to take the bike, train or go by foot to find caches. Apparently, I'm in the minority with my ecological way of Geocaching.
In my experience you're very much in the minority.
It's kinda sad that, in our world with tremendous problem with CO2 and other gases which cars emit, people don't think about the environment when they're actually depending on it.
Not everybody agrees with you on the severity of the problem. Having said that, most cachers I've met take steps to minimize their impact when caching.
Not to mention that cars destroy paths (if you're not parking it at the right spot for instance)
Not something I've seen happen.
Are there other people out there thinking the same way than I do?
I'm sure there are a few, but I'm guessing that geocaching is not a popular activity for that crowd.

Groundspeak has been clear that they don't want the cache logs to become 'discussions'.
Couple that with writing logs that are not about the cache, but about another cacher's behavior...I'd urge against log entries like those.
Is this cacher deleting finds that have blank logs are is this cacher just ranting?
-
I deleted my logs due to threats of you locking them. I guess people who legitimately saw them can't log them... Great... <_<
Let's move on from the trackables. That horse is well now beaten. Lesson learned.
Think so?
Today there's a new member on one of the local cache sites I'm on.
His name just happens to be the same as the OP and he wants to give those who attended an event a chance to log his coins. Five of 'em.
What lesson was learned here?
The thread topic is regarding Souvenirs not showing up. Lets not continue with the beating up of Coldgears for his spelling and attempts to get people to discover his geocoins. Forum guidelines ask that we be "courteous, polite and respectful."

I'd throw in the area around West Bend, WI as a contender. They have an annual "Cache Bash" every year in August. I don't remember the number of caches said to be in the area, but it is a lot.
64 caches within 1 mile
Cook County Forest Preserve: 41 caches within 1 mile
Busse Forest Preserve: 69 caches within 1 mile
City Park in New Orleans has 60 or so caches in the park itself.....hard to find a hole anymore.
42 Caches within 1 mile.
Lots of areas up and down the CA coast are denser as some of the areas mentioned so far, especially SF Bay area and San Diego.
79 caches within 1 mile.

As for the souvenirs...
Setting up souvenirs for yesterdays events is more involved than most other souvenirs. Until now, the programming for the souvenirs was as simple as checking the location of the cache/event or the date. For this souvenir someone has to code in each event as a qualifier before attending the attendance.
I'm sure the souvenir will appear. If not in the next couple of days, then in two weeks when the qualifying period ends. Just be patient.

Thanks, I had lost my copy.

anyone know?
Very possibly Mill Ends Park in Portland, Oregon. I don't believe there is room for even one more cache. The park is totally saturated!!
Oh yeah... the cache: http://coord.info/GC2DZ0V
84 within a mile. Very impressive level of density.

I believe it would be Mission 9: Tunnel of Light.
-
It would be great if these could be shown on a map
And how many points each has.
For now, .loc and .gpx files do not include the favorite information. Perhaps as soon as later this month, Groundspeak will be including the favorite information in GPX files which will make creating "Favorite" lists quite easy.

Found five, but three of them are Walt Disney World in Florida Virtuals. And I haven't found two of the virtuals there, and they're on the list too!! I saved them, because last time I was there (2004) there were actually a ton of physical caches there too. But that ended badly, and physical caches are no longer allowed on Disney property.
Post #15 is a little difficult for me. I have an Earthcache with 49 Favorite points, and #100 the list is at 60 favorite points. Just wondering where I place, if you went to more pages.
As of a few minutes ago, you were in a tie with a few other caches at #155.
You're the #11 Earthcache in the US.

Updated figures since last time...
10 miles from my house: 2694 caches (I've found 854 of those).
-
how about Tristate Marker GC2018. Its tied at 100.
I grabbed the first five pages and did not look at the sixth page. There are three more caches tied at 100. I'll add them.
Edited to add: List, stats, and KMZ have now been edited to include three more caches that were tied for 100.
