  1. I know I'm not the only one that had to look that up. An education in regional colloquialisms is also lagniappe.
  2. Thanks for the laugh. You've put a good deal of work into this list.
  3. Here is part of the log I left on a local cache: "I did my best to blend in with the surroundings on this trip. I had a metal detector, a fistful of papers, my GPS and a neon-orange safety vest. I like to look like I'm officially doing something official-like. Like, you know?" The funny part comes in because the cache was located in a small park across the street from a Geocacher's home. She and her boyfriend saw me out there and knew what I was up to just the same. Essentially, they busted me in my orange attire.
  4. I have to say that I'm a fan of graphics WHERE NECESSARY. Anything more than that is lagniappe. If the picture is part of finding the cache, then the cache should be listed as a puzzle cache (all of mine are).
  5. That is impressive! You have put a lot of work into that one. You should see what I did with the 100-pounds of concrete, the wood router, and the metal engraver to get this one finished.
  6. Photos? Nah, I used pen and ink for my latest cache.
  7. Fact given by the OP: The area has a fence. That's a de facto "No Trespassing" sign. SBA away!
  8. Get over it. You're not going to be FTF on caches in your area. I've noticed that no matter what the game is or how it is played, there will always be people who are NUTZO GONZO enough to make it their life's work. It only takes one of these people in your area to ruin the FTF game for everyone else. If you made the publish time random, someone out there is going to have a GPS strapped to their waist at all times and a phone or blackberry device that get's instant notification of all published caches. They'll beat you no matter how you change the rules to suit your approach to the FTF game.
  9. You were right to SBA the cache. If the land owner put up a fence, it is understood that trespassing is against the owner's wishes. This is even if he/she has not put up a "No Trespassing" sign. I wouldn't publish a cache that requires someone to go past a locked gate or jump a fence. I wouldn't go for a cache that required me to do so. It'd be a shame for someone to give Geocaching a black eye for this.
  10. I like the distinction that if "It ain't there, it's a puzzle." My most recent puzzle cache is a multi, and I scratched my head for a moment when selecting it's type. Seeing how I spent months preparing the damned thing, it MUST be a puzzle cache. But still, it made me wonder: Which classification wins out? Your definition works well for me. If you can't get to stage one without figuring out the puzzle, it's a puzzle cache. If you have to go to stage one to figure out stage two, it's a multi.
  11. It's published now if you want to see the length. It's called "Incan Ink & Ian".
  12. Yes, it's not published yet. So you'll know it when it's up, it's called "Incan Ink & Ian." The answer validation tool is here: Answer Validation Tool It's a PHP script. It's not TOO difficult to update, but then I know PHP. I email the results of the validation to keep people from brute forcing their way to the answer. That avoids cheating, but it also avoids unnecessary bandwith that come with brute force attacks. I also installed a fairly robust format checker to make sure that the coordinates you enter are valid before it goes through the bother of checking them against the caches. I never thought of having a backdoor keyword for the checker. Why would you want one?
  13. My biggest puzzle cache so far required a "Long Description" of 24,576 bytes of text. That includes the HTML for links to "The Selector" my "Answer Validation Tool" and image tags to the 26 pen and ink drawings I drew and scanned in. Not to mention one big honkin' story. I'd been working the graphics and HTML for a while and was fearful it would all fall apart when I went to submit it. I'm happy to report that when the form says "be as detailed as you like," it can handle it. Anyone have a longer description out there?
  14. Can I show the tick my Geocaching ID card? Maybe it'll realize that there's been some sort of mistake and leave me alone.
  15. I like the mail it idea. I can put the coin at a location around town, or I could mail it to you. I guess I'll have to check to see what little padded envelopes cost and what they cost to ship. Still, $10 isn't much to spend when I'm building the popularity of a cache.
  16. briansnat, what's up with your avatar? Is that a cacher who didn't put the log back in the ziplock bag?
  17. If the tick has any sort of disease, I certainly don't want it exploding.
  18. I'm in the final stages of setting up a very difficult puzzle cache. I thought it'd be nice to give away special edition signature items to the first ten finders. Essentially, it's a hand-carved polymer clay coin, just over an inch in diameter. The only problem is: How do I effectively give out these coins to the first ten finders? Potential solutions and problems: 1) Put all ten in the cache, but someone along the way may take more than one (or all!). 2) Put the coordinates to a nearby 35mm film canister in the cache for ONE coin; check and replace after each find is posted. Problem: someone may just stop off at the cache and pick up the latest coin. 3) Have the finders email me for these coordinates after each find. Problem: They might not be able to get to the coin for a while, or at all. Any suggestions?
  19. Ok, my first category has been approved. It looks like the group is able to manage more categories, but I don't see any way to add more categories. Maybe I need to post this in a different forum here.
  20. I formed a group. I invited members to join. I've submitted my first category. I have three more categories to submit. Do I have to wait for each category to finish Peer Review before submitting the next category? Or do I need to form 5 groups to manage 5 categories. This group of friends of mine have all agreed to get together to manage Waymarking categories. We've even got a seperate Web site with our own discussion forum to discuss and manage the entire process. I've formed a group and they joined it to help me manage MY categories. They've formed groups and are getting THEIR categories submitted. It'd be easer if the five of us only had to form one group for each of our own list of categories, rather than one group per category. At five categories per Premium Member, that'd be TWENTY FIVE groups we'd have to create and join. The overhead of moving from one group to the next to manage one category within a group would be too much. Or am I just confused?
  21. My category Civil War Generals was supposed to finish Peer Review yesterday. It is still listed in my group as undergoing Peer Review. I do not know how to track the voting process. Is that something I can see? Or am I just waiting to see the rejection letter?
  22. I'm obsessed! (with spammers and sock puppets ) I'm sure that this is the VERY PLACE to advertise your money making ventures if you're selling Geocoins. Coming over to our site in Louisiana and setting up an account with the sole purpose of posting unwelcome advertising is not cool. I have to wonder how many other organizations have received unwanted spam from members of your group?
  23. ventura, please don't SPAM our local forum. You have one message at our site an it's nothing but a money-making venture for yourself.
  24. I've been muggled! On a scale of 1-10, I give this one a 9 since the pieces were still there. My fellow cacher GatorGrl collected the pieces for me. I'd like to see someone post pictures on a similar vein. This is my cache, Chocolate City (GCT343) after a bulldozer came through the area: (click image for larger version) Give me your fried, your torn, Your muggled caches yearning to to be resealed, The mangled refuse of your bulldozed sites. Send pictures, the horrid, twisted warped to me, I lift my thread upon the Geocaching forum.
