  1. I'm going to go one step further and say tri-corder. That's one device that can do everything and is in everyway superior to what we have now. 2 years tops. The handheld market is currently flying by other technology in terms of development. Current evices have gps, OTA data, voice, fm radio (send and recieve), magnetometer, blue tooth, 802.11 b/g/n. It's only a mater of a few years till it's all as good as it's stand alone couterparts. Agree?
  2. Had something similar happen to us this summer. We pulled of the road to let the GPS lock and a rather grumpy guy pulled up next to us and told us to leave. I supposed it was less threatening for us as I drive a 3/4 ton diesel and had my right hand wrapped firmly around a sig sauer p229.
  3. I am odd ball for my generation. As I approach my 31 st birthday I find that spending long days in the woods as a kid was already becoming rare for my peers. As a rule kids cannot entertain themselves with the things we spent hours on with only few exceptions. That being said, I finally got my first taste of poison ivy two weeks ago. I've always assumed I was in some way immune to it but I guess the cuts and scrapes all over my ankles that day were enough to get through my tough skin. So far that's my worst injury to date while geocaching....knock on wood
  4. I love how the article makes the cops sound like they are so on top of things. I cannot figure out how anyone would mistake that as real. I mean eyeballs but no skin? Anyway I hope you get it back....I've made a mental note for this one....
  5. Have a similar one close to me... the cache was disabled until the ducks are gone. I think it would be funny for a goose to try that...they give case to intruders!
  6. This is Germany. People are disciplined. But not so disciplined that the money box can be opened, or removed from the wall If I ever branch out into Geo-Tourism, I will organise visits to Ottenhöfen, and especially the multi nearby which takes you past seven (count 'em) Schnapps distillers. If you upload a picture of you drinking a shot at each one, you get some kind of binus (or maybe just a hangover ). I think the lack of 18v sawzalls is what keeps this safe. I think it's really cool though!!! I might try something like this locally (sans alcohol of course) as a novelty thing. When it gets hijacked it will likely die. Of course this may be wishful thinking as I haven't even been able to go geo-caching in over 4 weeks due to my work.
  7. This is Sadie, our cachedog! She LOVES caching she just runs like she's never going to get to run again. She got more energy then the energizer bunny. She's a mostly liver GSP we got for free. I was building an add on for a family that decided she was too nippy. I tried to reassure the family that that's normal for a 8 week old puppy but when I heard she had to go I snatched her up...she hasn't bitten anyone or tried for that matter. But if you look closely you can she little welts all over her...that's because she was bitten by mosquito's I'm sorry for your loss, we often talk about wether we should get Sadie a playmate and when because we know she won't be around forever.
  8. All your cache are belong to us from All your base are belong to us
  9. Communist Iowa requires that you purchase a license and title for any ATV, dirt bike, etc that could potentially see public trails. And when they hand you the sticker that acts as a license plate they tell you that you should attach it to the atv's rear fender..."but since it doesn't stick very well you should keep it in a dry place incase you need it.
  10. Just wanted everyone to know that GCz has been updated today with a new GPS monitor and some bug fixes. GCz still needs a data connection. Look for GCz II for a connectionless solution in the future.
  11. Funny this thread would pop up now. We had one last weekend where we saw the officer but figured he was too preoccupied with his latest victim. Well we were wrong and he spotted us looking around the parking lot. He drove up and asked if we needed help finging something. I could tell that was code for "you better have a good reason for looking around here because I know you didn't loose anything" so we filled him in on our mission for our sake and the sake of future cachers. a-town is notorious for overly suspicious and over zealous cops. Good thing he wasn't one of them!
  12. a toy cellphone for toddlers, probably fisher price or something. It started ringing when we opened the containers, and until we identified the source of the noise I was a little freaked out. That was today
