  1. I've decided to try to log this infamous locationless. My coords work out to be (59°43.391 to 59°43.399) or (59°44.391 to 59°44.399). For more information about this cache please check out the "Where's in a name" cache. It looks like the Northern line runs through Canada, Sweden, and Russia. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, KYtrex ----------------- War doesn't determine who's right. War determines who's left [This message was edited by KYtrex on January 24, 2003 at 07:18 AM.]

  4. There is a local Bible college in my hometown that is wanting to change it's phone number. You can read about it here on cnn.com. Here in Breathitt County, around 90% of phone prefixes, including mine, are 666. Just recently have they run out of that prefix and started assigning another. Although I am not superstitious and the number doesn't really bother me, I often do get weird looks and questions when I have to give my phone number to someone who is not from this area. I know this is kind of off topic, but I thought this would be a good thread to share this. KYtrex ----------------- War doesn't determine who's right. War determines who's left
  5. quote:Originally posted by Anders:I don't know about the GPS V (doesn't have any), but my Vista also allows deletion of waypoints by symbol. Anders Yes, the Garmin V has this feature. If you need to do this just... Press find, select waypoints, hit enter Select "By Name" and hit enter move cursor to "OK" and hit enter Press menu and select "Delete by Symbol" press enter then select your symbol. Keep entering "Yes" until process is finished. I use the "geocache" icon on all unfound geocaches. After I find it, I then change the icon to "geocache found". After I get done logging them, I then delete all "geocache found" waypoints. That way I won't clutter my memory with geocaches I no longer need. 6. Sometimes I like to watch caches that I'm thinking about hunting. That way I may get an extra hint or find out about any problems with the cache. I almost always watch a cache that I have found at least until it is found one more time after I was there. I always like to know that I hid it back properly and that nobody saw me. Another type cache I like to watch, is one that I don't think will last long, either because of it's location or some other problem. I sometimes make bets with myself about how long it will last. I also talk to and answer myself, but geocaching is helping me overcome that problem . As a side note, if you are a charter member, you can now watch an unlimited number of caches. quote:Originally posted by BassoonPilot: I guess that's the advantage of having fewer than 100 finds ... the maximum number of caches that could be watched, last time I heard. Hope this helps. And, welcome to geocaching. Please don't be afraid to ask questions. If someone bashes you for it, it's their problem. We were all new here at one time. 7. quote:Originally posted by Mopar:Just dont forget to turn it off again when you leave the car to search for a cache. When you get as close to the cache as you can get by driving, do a recalculate and select "offroad". The unit automatically turns road lock off. On firmware 2.08 you will have to turn road lock back on manually unless you do a "goto" that is not "off road". If my memory serves me right(it usually doesn't ), previous firmware versions turned road lock back on when you ended your offroad goto. KYtrex ----------------- War doesn't determine who's right. 8. From the map page, do the following... Press Menu Highlight "Setup Map" and press enter Highlight "Lock On Road" and select "ON" Press "page" and it should return back to the map page with road names dislplayed. Hope this helps. 9. Tracker 'T' and I will be there. Maybe. Hopefully. Possibly. Just kidding. We will be there unless and absolute emergency comes up. Also, I have placed the 1st cache in the Jackson area. I'm going to try and place 3 or 4 more as soon as I can. I want to have enough that it is worth the trip down. I am trying to make them as interesting as I can. See everyone Saturday. 10. to make it. I'd sure like to be there. I'll have to check with Tracker 'T'. As soon as I find out, I'll let you all know. I think a group organization would be a great thing. I'll do all I can to make it fly. Calvin KYtrex ----------------- War doesn't determine who's right. War determines who's left
  11. Yep, I agree with the WD Pirates. I've done over 200 caches and this one is by far, the most cleverly hidden cache I have ever found. And speaking of clever caches, Fustis(in Lexington) would come in as the best camouflaged container I have ever seen(or almost didn't see). I was standing right next to it and still had a hard time seeing it. It's not hidden, it's just 'there' KYtrex ----------------- War doesn't determine who's right. War determines who's left
  12. We need this feature! The geo-litter reason alone is probably enough, but it would be so nice to be able to have the cache listed when the owner is ready. KYtrex ----------------- War doesn't determine who's right. War determines who's left
  13. I use a Palm m130. I have had it for about a month and a half and really love it. I originally bought if for caching but have found it useful for so many other things. I like the appointment book feature the best. If I've got something to do in the near future, or just something I need to remember on a certain day, I make an entry and the alarm will automatically go off an hour before the appointment. I am still forgetful, but because of the PDA, I'm on time a whole lot more than I used to be. To stay on topic, I use the pocket queries with mine. I download all the waypoints into my Garmin V and when I see one close, I use the search on my PDA to get the cache details. After I find the cache(hopefully), I can use the notepad to write down any info about the find(or no find). I can do each one as a note and at the end of the day, the PDA already has them in numbered order. That makes it super easy when it comes to logging my caching day. Another feature I like about the notepad is that you can write on the screen in your own handwriting, so it is fairly quick to make your log. Hope this helps.... 14. 250? Drove approximately 90 miles to the first Lexington, KY get together, another 40-60 around the Lexington area, and took the long way home at around 120 miles. Had a great time caching and meeting everyone from that area. Also got to meet jogps while he was in town. 16. I did a few this summer on my motorcycle. Most trips were very pleasant, but this one was one that I'll remember for a long time I guess that's to be expected if you ride long enough. I have my Garmin V mounted on my Vulcan 750's handlebars with a RAM mount. At first I had problems with the V shutting off with vibration, but I cut off a piece of a business card and slid down between the batteries and haven't had anymore problems. From what I've read on the forums, that seems to be a common problem with the Garmins. KYtrex ----------------- War doesn't determine who's right. War determines who's left
  17. Is there a way to link to a specific log on a cache page? For example, I want to make a link on the forums to a certain log I made on a cache page, and not have the viewer look through all the logs just to read mine. I'm sure I've seen this done but couldn't find anything about it during a search. Thanks in advance.... KYtrex ----------------- War doesn't determine who's right. 18. I read something on the lunch cache page about possibly bringing trade items for a new cache. What is the status on this? Are we going to create a new cache at the lunch? Is there anything in particular I need to bring? Anything else I can do to help? later.... KYtrex ----------------- War doesn't determine who's right. War determines who's left
  19. quote:Originally posted by Rubbertoe: I bet everyone did Shrinky Dinks as a kid... RT, you managed to loosen a gear in my head that hadn't turned in years. As I read the topic of this thread, I had a strange sense that I had heard that term somewhere before. But where ? Ah, now I remember! As a child, I too made 'Shrinky Dinks'. I guess the point of my post is just a 'thanks for the memories' type thing. I guess the worry and problems of the adult world doesn't give us much time to remember the simpler days of when we were children. Semi-off topic, I have recently noticed that 'Lincoln Logs' are back on the shelf. They used to be a favorite of mine way back when. Thank your for the slight pause from my adult world. Now I must go and get back to the ever present problems of the real world before my mind realizes I'm gone.... 20. Actually, what I think SergZak was refering to was a master reset. To do this you must press and hold the QUIT and OUT buttons, and press the power button. This will delete all of your waypoints, along with anything else stored in the recently found places section. Be cautious with this operation. It also erases any user preferences that you have previously entered. To summarize, your Garmin V resets to factory settings, except for the firmware version. It will stay the same version that was last installed. Before doing this backup all of your waypoints to your computer first. Hope this helps. 22. Welcome to geocaching. I'm sure you will enjoy it. To second wcgreen, try to come down to Lexington on the 14th and have lunch with us. Hopefully you'll have your GPSr by then and can hunt some local caches. If not, maybe you can team up with some of us and help search. Hope to see ya' there.... 24. I just started using the Mobipocket a couple of weeks ago. When I first downloaded it, I got a free trial version of 'MobiPocket Reader Pro v4.5'. After 14? days it reverted to just 'MobyPocket Reader v4.5'. When it was the 'Pro' version, the find feature gave me the option of finding First, Previous, Next, & Last. When it reverted to the basic version that function was gone and it would only search on the same page I was viewing. Hope this helps.
