  1. Things > Benchmarks

Similar to UK Trigpoints this would cover traditional Triangulation pillars and OS markers (not GPS stations) as used on the island of Ireland by both OSNI and OSI.

The waypoints would require logging verification involving a photo of the marker and a GPS.

A full list of primary and secondary Trigs are available online giving Irish Grid coords so a photo is definitely required.

  2. It may just be me but...

I keep seeing Children in Need adverts on the BBC and they keep reminding me of the man whos dedication perminantly linked the event with fox hunts in my mind.

I am of course talking about Mark (The Cat) who did so much for caching in this country.

His legacy lives on in GC:UK and for that I think we all have a lot to than him for.

I haven't been around GC that long so I have no idea who you are on about. Can anyone give a little bit of detail on this obviously very well respected man and the "Fox Hunt" thing

  3. ...like many other geocachers in this area I have simply placed the caches into Camo Bags, works a treat and saves so much time.

I've never seen the Camo bags as they tend not to be used over here. What kind of material are they made from? I assume they're not waterproof or else we're back to the placcie bags arguement again B)

  4. Saw a similar one recently

    out: the emergency wistle

    in: nothing, sorry

It's obvious the cacher knew they were doing the wrong thing and I can't see what attraction the whistle held. I'm sure most people carry cash on them. It's a bit of a lame swap (unless they're either substantial or unusual) but better than a sorry!

Feel sorry for folks with demanding kids but why go out caching unprepared for swaps. That's not fair either on the kids or the cache owner.

  5. I've tried a couple of different techniques to paint plastic boxes but I'm looking for a few pointers. So far I have:

    1. Painted the box with standard hard gloss and varnished over the GC.com sticky label. This has worked well but it's messy and time-consuming. Also the paint takes ages to dry.

    2. Sprayed the box with spray paint designed for spraying cars (in a small touch-up can from a car spares shop). Looks great, dries quickly and it's speedy. Only thing is it has a tendency to flake off and I've no idea how well it'll last "in the wild".

Anybody got any tips they've developed?

  6. Try this link. I used that as a starting point to get my iPAQ 3870 working with a Sony Ericsson mobile. I did have to contact Vodafone for the correct parameters to use when connecting via GPRS though.

Give Orange a ring and they should be able to give you the following info:

Number to dial (make sure it's for GPRS)

    Username

    Password

Also ask them if a specific APN is required

It's not as difficult as it seems. Once you have the correct info. I found it more difficult to set up the Bluetooth connection <_<

  7. Taking a straightforward average of all 74 valid logs made by the geocaching community

I've seen this mentioned a few times and heard people talk about it loads of times but nobody has been able to give me a straight answer. So, here goes again :(

How do you obtain an average when using coords? A worked example would be great

  8. red+cross+box.gif

ok that iz good too <_<

    B.

OK another master class is needed

    how do you do that?

Its an animated gif which is just a fancy way of saying an image that moves. Deego probably saw it somewhere on the net, saved it to his own PC and linked to it in the usual way.

It's a lot more simple than it looks :P
