  1. I dunno then, My TB's only give me emails on dropped and retrieved logs. <- maybe thats due to the way I have set up my emails?

I do know of a way to log TB's that will not send emails (as I was asked to use it by a collector) but I can't remember what that was.

Some of the bulk logging programs/sites don't send emails(don't know which or why) but I can't see 40+ people logging the car through these methods... still no reply from GS

  2. You do get notifications of discoveries. You also get them for retrieving them from a cache and dropping off in a cache. Also if someone posts a note. You do not get notifications if they are visited in a cache. Well we dont anyway. But our CRABS Tb was placed in an event recently and jesus didnt the emails keep on coming as it was discovered. You can watch a TB. This will alert you to everything that happens with a TB even if it is not yours. So you could try that for now until the system rights itself maybe.

Thanks for the idea but don't think I'll bother with 170+ trackables in our collection :) ... We received nearly 3000 notification EMails after the last UK Mega.. I was just wondering if anything had changed that I hadn't heard about

  3. I have nothing against the winning photo; it's a good pic. Just a pity that your choice of rules meant that this month's competition was an archive-mining exercise for many. Never mind, Dave, setting the rules doesn't always work out as one might hope - better luck next time (if I've not frightened you off). Cheers.

One problem... I didn't set them I copied them from the month before ... and when it's your turn to judge, good luck with proving when they were taken.... All anyone needs to do is log a DNF on a cache nearby during the month or do a maintenance visit on one of their own caches if they really want to dig out an old pic to enter

This comp is getting less and less pictures each month and more rules means there will be even less Keep it simple and FUN

    Dave

  4. The OP response to the older pictures only confirms my objection: this was a competition best entered without bothering to leave the house. Boring.

Now I remember why I stopped coming on this forum......

    The rules....

    1) The photo must be cache related and to do with a specific UK cache (any type including events), caching series or caching trip - please include a link to the cache or the GC.... code so we can see where the picture relates to.

    2) Maximum of two photos per caching team or cacher.

    3) A new thread is started each month, with the OP stating these rules.

    4) The winner each month is decided by the winner from the previous month - the new winner starting the thread for the subsequent month. They may set a theme if they wish.

    5) Follow the theme

I don't see anything to say it must be taken in the month of the comp.... it is your choice to do it your way.... If you win you can set the rule that it must be taken in the month but until then why not just congratulate a fellow cacher on his great picture instead of your insulting post.

I was the judge.. I said old pics were OK in an earlier post... complain to me, don't demean a great pic just because you didn't win

Grow up and play the game it's supposed to be fun

  5. On the way back from the Flashmob tonight I took some great sunset pictures[/b] let's see your sunset/sunrise pictures

What about photos taken at sunrise, but not actually showing the sun? Are they allowed?

    Don't see why not

  6. I went to the link on your first post and clicked the picture... the pic comes up on a page of it's own... then copied the URL and pasted as in Mrs B's post

I got the same error when I tried the URL from your "let's see if this works" post ????

  8. If the original Geolympix team were to do another event then maybe but if the idea is to hand x£ to anyone who says they will do another NO.

When people back a Mega event by paying into it in any way they are trusting the listed team to 'do the right thing' and do what they say they will do with any 'profit' on the website/cache page. So if the 2012 Geolympix team have finished the money should go to the charities

If anyone want to 'run a mega' they don't have to come up with lots of cash or raise lots they can do as Piratemania & HH&CC have done and start with a small event and make it good enough to attract the numbers in following years

As Original A1 said we could end up getting Mega'd out and we stand the chance of 'The Mega' just being another event, I still think there should be only one 'official' week long MEGA in any year which would leave the rest of the country to run weekend long events that go mega. I know of two groups who were thinking of trying to run a mega event but were put off by the chance they would be affected by another mega dividing the country by holding a MEGA around the same time thus halving their potential attendees.

  9. What charger have you got? My two 8-battery chargers have now died after many years sterling service (and a lot of abuse) and need one that will trickle charge once it reaches capacity not continue to fry till switched off. Any recommendations gratefully received.

I've now bought seven of these. At the lower end of smart chargers but do the business - I've seen this model with other badges on too. Seems quite a reliable and prompt seller too.

Ordered one from eBay. Many thanks for the recommendation.

As for the batteries I will look for the Sanyo ones next time I order some. Thanks for the advice.

  10. I've bought loads of rechargeable AA batteries as life wouldn't run without them and agree with the comments about the quality. The trouble is...do you buy a few to see what they are like before buying a lot(which puts the cost up) or bulk-buy and hope they are ok. I wish we had a "recommendation" list and "avoid" list for others apart from the well-known (in UK) makes. I bought some, over the internet, from Australia that seem to be working well and could be a well-known brand there but it's not easy to find out. I've also bought batteries that worked well and gone for more of the same to find the new ones are not as good. It's a minefield I think. What charger have you got? My two 8-battery chargers have now died after many years sterling service (and a lot of abuse) and need one that will trickle charge once it reaches capacity not continue to fry till switched off. Any recommendations gratefully received.

  11. Look for them at events or on the road when at large events. We got back to our car in an Oxford P+R last Sunday to find 2 more TB mobiles all in line with ours

We've had one on our car for over 5 years it has about 220 discoveries mostly at events (inc 21 so far at the Geolympix weekend) has only been spotted 3 times 'on the road'

It does help that as well as the sticker on the boot I have a 60cm long replica long TB hanging from the interior mirror at events
