  1. I don't know about Ivy, but the only time I got Poison Oak is IN THE WINTER. The leaves have fallen off & the woody stems look like 100 other shrubs. Fortunately, the Reno area has neither, but I used to live along coastal CA.
  2. There are 4 or 5 guys around here who are nuts to make a FTF, the FUNNY thing is that they can only make FTF's on the easy ones. If it takes several days or more for someone to make the FTF they never get it. If anything, it shows their minimal skill at the game.
  3. Good points, another thing I noticed about this person: he'll go to a cache with 2 one dollar coins, take both and leave a one dollar bill!!! So he's not contributing in any way I can see.
  4. There has been much talk about trading even or up with swag. I'm trying to bring that idea to this subject. No one can be forced to place a good cache, and some people are incapable of it. But maybe this idea should be on their mind rather than ignored.
  5. No, I'm not suggesting that, and probably only 1 in a thousand there live that lifestyle. That isn't the case with the person I'm refering too.
  6. I agree with that point also, and given that this particular person is inept at finding the difficult placements, the quality of his hides probably wouldn't be the best. But I took his numbers because they are so extreem, over 1000 to 3.
  7. There's a local cacher who has over 1000 finds, but he has only placed 3 caches. To me that looks like take take take, and contribute little. Once a person has 100 or 200 finds should they be placing a reasonable number of new caches for others? What would be a reasonable percentage?
  8. I'm surprised so many people like chemicals, DEET and the others never worked very well for me. The BEST IS A HEADNET. You can buy one at WalMart for $1.47. Compressed in a thin packet, it makes a good trade item too.
  9. Here's a vote against Mctoys, I doubt if 10% of the geocachers are little kids, the big kids and adults have no interest in that stuff. NOW, for a GOOD idea: So many people complaining about mosquitos this last 6 weeks, ever find a mosquito headnet in a cache? Ever wish you had one? WalMart has them for $1.47, compressed in a small packet, not even 1/2 inch wide. They also have a nice white, wide brimmed hat to hold the net away from your face for $6. Even includes a chin strap so the wind doesn't blow it away.
  10. GPSr don't come with any software, you got the whole deal. The exception would be if they advertised a map program, they come on cd's.
  11. I think a better title for this tread would be: HEAVY TREE COVER MAKES FOR A BAD CACHE. If you really can't place it in a better place you should give clues or a bearing & distance to help people find it.
  12. How wonderful, a web site of plagiarists. We're all Clintons here. Is it too much to give credit to the people who actually create something?
  13. Good advice, I posted 6 need archive logs for caches without activity in over 9 months. There were 2 others without activity in the last 9 months, but I know the owners are still active here, so I'll leave those to them.
  14. I think it's kinda funny that you expect other people to take a photo of this waterfall and upload it, when you just copped one at Google images. You didn't write the text, you didn't take the photo, another geocache/virtual that sucks. http://www.vintageviews.org/vv-3/scenic/pages/sec08_003.html
  15. Is that done by the owner or the approver or either? The correct answer is "either." There are a number of caches that have been disabled for almost a year. At what point does an approver finally put it to rest?
  16. Is that done by the owner or the approver or either?
  17. Some archived caches are red others blue, the red ones don't show up on a page of caches near "this one". The blues do. What's the story?
  18. The web site has several links: http://www.cru.fr/perso/cc/GPilotS/
  19. I think I'm a better judge than someone who is underemployed.
  20. While knowing who was looking at what may be entertaining, I hope management has given more important things higher priority. Finding QUALITY caches along a highway is very time consuming and a feature that should have first priority.
  21. Yesterday someone posted a found it for a cache I just placed a few weeks ago. He said it was easy to find, he just followed the geotrail up the hill !!!! When I placed that cache I had no idea that would happen, let alone so soon. It may not be necessary to move anything, but you can be sure that some people will tear things up if they can't find it in 30 seconds. A cache beside a busy street in Reno was pulled by the owner 2 weeks ago because people were tearing the area up. And that area was mostly just rocks 6" to 12" across laying on the ground. Wilderness areas are places to go to get away from the rat race, a cache is an attractive nuisance. Many Wildnerness areas have quotas because the rangers think too many people go there, we don't need a trivial reason like logging one more find to add to the mob. In some Wilderness areas the rangers have pulled all the summit registers. These are just a small simple log of the mountains history. That is a loss of our history . So I'm amazed some people can say it's ok to put a cache with trade items in the same area.
  22. EasyGPS can edit them in bulk, but that only works for a *.loc file. Neither Watcher or GSAK are able to do this. Any other choices for a *.gpx file? EasyGPS calls these icons: SYMBOLS
  23. When I download a bunch of waypoints to my Legend, a small icon shows for each waypoint. What determines what icon is displayed? Can I edit them? Either when the file is in my computer or in the GPS. What program can do this? When deleting a large number of waypoints this icon can be handy.
  24. I looked thru the faq & doc and you don't use the term program functions there. What does that mean? Delete records? It would be nice if there was an easy way to delete a large number of records with a minimum of motions. Perhaps you could have a box like the found or bookmark box, a person could go thru the database and check it, then an action like delete or move would apply to all that are checked.
