  1. But you are only seeing 2 wedges, right? I'd like to see the numbers, 39.33.123 etc
  2. I have a Garmin Legend, and would like to see both my current location & the cache I'm going for location on the same page. I've tried customizing all the pages but haven't found a way to do this. Is it possible? Switching from Satelite page to one of the others and back seems to take a lot of keystrokes. If not, can you do it with other models or brands?
  3. They've been doing that with the phones in peoples houses for decades.
  4. I asked this question a few weeks ago myself, I hope they do it. Especially for when I travel to another city.
  5. Not sure, but I think about 20% of the caches are archived each year. When you see a place YOU LIKE VISITING open up, take it.
  6. Whether a knife is a weapon or not depends mostly on how long the blade is. A pocket knife with a folding 3" blade is not a weapon. A hunting knife with a 6" blade could be. A Desperate Housewife with fire in her eyes and a 6" filet knife certainly has a weapon.
  7. the caches here are filled with kid toys too. I think it's because people don't want that kind of junk so they get rid of it. The adult items are taken quickly.
  8. I have a Garmin, I know guys with Magellens, they're both primitive. In a few years newer models will have many more features. Same ol, same ol, keep the suckers on an upgrade path.
  9. They probably had someone who knew where the caches are located drive them around. With a dirt bike perhaps right up to every cache. Not my idea of fun, makes me think of the people who swallow as many raw eggs, oysters, whatever, just to set a "record "
  10. I don't think they do. someone in the Reno area placed a multi last summer about 8 miles north of town. One person visited it. A month ago another person placed a cache and the guy who placed the multi ran out, claimed the FTF, then told the 2nd guy he'd have to move his cache "because through no fault of his own" he'd placed the cache 170' from the multi!!!
  11. Thx for the replies everyone. I got a copy of Cachemate and that works fine. The problem was the Plucker 1.8, it didn't work and it gave one of those useless error messages that was of no help.
  12. I like your idea, but there are so many more important things, like getting a list of caches along a hiway. In an easier way than currently. If it's your cache you can give the swag theme in your description. Then go back every 2-8 months to see how it's going.
  13. Do any gps units send/receive via an infared port? Handspring can do that.
  14. I tried Spinner, and get the error message: ""The gpx file you selected does not have the Groundspeak geocaching extentions. (You can get your own complete gpx files from Geocaching.com pocket queries.) Load aborted."" Spinner seems the most obtuse of all the programs, it doesn't even have a help file. If I click on it there is just a 3 second screen display and then it disappears.
  15. I've tried that and the Plucker in my PDA doesn't "see" them. Photoshop 7 is easier to use than this kludge. Seems like the problem has more to do with your PDA than with the gpx files or PQ... Just open GSAK, grab the GPX file...filter out the caches you don't want (or filter in the caches you do want) and click: FILE--->EXPORT------->HTML Then you just pick a folder on your hard drive to generate the web pages and images to. Boom.... It generates all of the .htm files and images associated with them in one handy folder.... Have you tried GSAK yet? Yes I've tried GSAK, but how do those files get to the PDA? Is yet another program needed?
  16. That's the format everyone but you says is a dog I don't understand that sentence. Here's what NightPilot says: If you want to read the ebook .prc files you receive, you need to download Mobipocket. I don't like it, and don't know anyone who does, but the Mobi folks seem to be very good marketers, maybe not as good as Microsoft, but good, because almost everything you buy for Palm in ebook format is for Mobipocket. I bought the Aeronautical Information Manual and the Federal Aviation Regulations, since I need access to them, but just gave up on it, because Mobipocket is so godawful difficult to use - no hyperlinks, poor search, etc. I downloaded the same information for free from the FAA's website and converted it all to Plucker, and it's far, far easier to use.
  17. I've tried that and the Plucker in my PDA doesn't "see" them. The hotsync operation say it completed the transfer, but nothing is there. Some one else said, from GSAK it has to go to Plucker Desktop, but I can't find a copy that isn't "corrupt" Sunrise help leads to a web site that says sunrise is a beta that will be discontinued soon and little else................ Photoshop 7 is easier to use than this kludge.
  18. That's the format everyone but you says is a dog
  19. For the last 2 weeks I've been trying to figure how to take the pocket queries from here and use them on a PDA. (Handspring) I get glibe responses that direct me to links where someone incompletly tells how to run the .gpx thru GSAK, then Plucker Desktop, then.... Why the complexity? The 3 different Plucker desktop files I downloaded were all corrupt. At 10mb each on a dialup modem that was a real waste of time. Why can't the PQ download have an html file that can go directly to my PDA without endless fiddles? If it's so easy, why can't your computer do it? You produce an ebook file that no one seems to like. Why not the elusive PDA file that people want?
  20. I downloaded 3 different plucker desktop setup files from http://desktop.plkr.org/downloads/msw/ And all 3 are corrupted so they don't work.
  21. And you wonder why people want to put you on an ignore list !!!
  22. For the 3rd cache you could give the coords of the parking place and State in the description clearly what you've done. As for fewer people going to a multi, they don't care about the cache, they only care about their numbers. No loss if they don't come.
  23. Interesting. I started a blog when this thread first popped up, but haven't really written much, yet. I don't think that I'm really interested in feedback, that much. My blog is just a place to babble about whatever's on my mind; mostly geocaching blah, but not exclusively so. The purpose of my blog is to help others find the interesting caches and avoid wasting time on the dogs. I'm hoping others can give me tips when I travel to other areas.
  24. is this a quick question or a trick question? Is the plan to leave the good stuff the day before your friends come? Or the day when they go with you?
  25. Easy gps is very easy to use and if all you want is to download coords to your gps that's all you need. It doesn't save the extra data you're paying for in the .gpx files. Watcher, a gpx utility by clayjar is the easy one for those files. GSAK from the little I've tried it, is not intuitive and takes time to learn. Considering how rapidly this sport is evolving, I'm not sure it's worth spending the time. I don't want to have to learn new programs every few months.
