  1. With over 4,000 caches in the Reno area, I'd hardly call that an epidemic. The sky is falling! Some people are lucky, they have brains, sorry you're not among them. Most of the caches have had 3-4 spams, just today, Sunday more bogus accounts have been created and another dozen cache pages have been spammed. That's just the ones I know of, the true number is probably more than 3 times that. Have fun devil jimmyreno edit a new bogus account just opened, otisclydegay
  2. At least 20 cache pages in the Reno area have had bogus posts in the last 3 months. Sara at contact@ is incompetent at handling this. Here's a sample post: "This geocache will be disabled in the next few days for violating the terms of service agreement. Complaint filed by 'jimmyreno'. Sara Community Relations Specialist The Groundspeak Team" AND there have been many others in the last 3 months. Some people are gullible enough to believe this and are blaming me. HELLO?????????? IS THERE AN ADULT HERE?????????? THANK YOU FOR DOING NOTHING, JIMMYRENO
  3. I've found condoms in several caches, they always look really old so I guess the person who left them hadn't been lucky in a long time and was looking to get rid of something that might not be any good anymore. As for business cards, that's really tacky as swag, I clean those out.
  4. The caches that turn me off are the ones in bushes by busy streets with lots of cars and traffic noise. the best caches, IMO, are at peaceful locations.
  5. Many people make a pathtag that has an image that reflects the nature of the event. The hike to goat lake is my favorite, beautiful art, here's a link http://www.pathtags.com/community/tag.php?id=18175 Cheers jimmy
  6. you can do a master reset. Hi What is a master rest? and a master reset? thanks
  7. The more you force people to define a cache as they're setting up the cache page the less mystery there is on the hunt. Cache placers are NOT REQUIRED to state the size of the container, they already have the option of leaving it a mystery. I don't care if others want to place or look for nano's, I only want to take myself OUT of that game. In the real world finding them is a farce, someone looks for 2 minutes, then takes out their cell phone and asks someone "where is it". That's not hard.
  8. What's the problem that needs fixed? Someone put a cache in the rock wall of a local park, cacher's nearly tore the wall apart looking for the cache, an employee went around the park & muggled about 6 caches. I'm under the impression that none of the cache owners asked permission.
  9. Until 2 years ago few caches were smaller than a 35mm container, now nano's are popping up everywhere. I've found enough of those, I think they should have their own size category. Running queries etc, a person could select those out. Currently we have: micro, small, regular & large, either have nano, micro, small, regular & large, or do away with the small or large categories. Large caches are really rare, and many small's are too small for a 2" diameter geocoin, so I'd say they're really micro's.
  10. "I am planning a four-day rim-to-rim hike in the Grand Canyon for next spring." IF THE TEMP DOESN'T GO OVER 75º YOU CAN KEEP IT FOR A WEEK, I USE IT ON MANY TRIPS. BUT.................. NEVER TAKE IT TO A NATIONAL PARK, THE BLACK BEARS LOVE IT MORE THAN YOU. AND YOU'LL HAVE NOTHING BUT PROBLEMS WITH THEM. AFTER THEY EAT THE SAUSAGE THEY'LL EAT EVERY THING ELSE YOU HAVE. OUTSIDE THE NP's THE HUNTERS PICK OFF SCAVENGER BEARS EVERY HUNTING SEASON, SO HIKERS ARE SAFE. KIPPERED SALMON IS ANOTHER NICE FOOD WITH THIS PROBLEM.

  12. Bisphenol A, THIS CHEMICAL COATS THE INSIDE OF ALMOST ALL FOOD CANS. YOU PROBABLY EAT IT EVERY DAY, YOUR WATER BOTTLE IS A MINOR SOURCE.
  13. I found a cache like that, what a pain, there were suppose to be 2 <TWO> markers on a tree to show where you left the trail, only one was there so I went past it and continued to the other end. It took several trys walking back and forth to figure where the missing marker was. If you used one color or type of marker going one way and another type the other direction it would probably work.
  14. I've set cachemate so when I log a find it makes an entry for that cache in the "Found" category. This is really nice. Then I'd mark the dnf's with a mark in the bookmark box. When I moved all the bookmarked caches to the "not found" category, I discovered that all the entries in the found category had been deleted !!! Did I do something wrong? Does a person have to choose which feature they like best? thx jimmy
  15. my garmin etrex started having problems at 16 months and garmin told me $99 to fix or tough s*** . This is a GOOD REASON to just buy a cheap gps for caching, and next time it'll be a MAGELLEN
  16. I have a TimberWolf geocoin for sale $ 12 includes shipping in US. Oblong shape, mostly gold on front with black outlines for the wolfs head Ruby red for the eyes and the word Timberwolf Reverse side 60% black 40% gold Says: "The hunt for geoprey is on" also "Trackable on Geocaching.com" Wolf paw icon at geocaching.com New condition. thx for looking jimmy
  17. Did you, by any chance, play the built-in games on the unit a lot? There are no games on my GPS, I used it only for geocaching.
  18. Garmin support is CRAPPY. I don't know why, but after 16 months the toggle would not work in the up down motion, Garmin said the warranty had expired after 12 months and it'd cost $99 to work on it. No wonder the guy who started Garmin is worth over a billion dollars.
  19. I like the idea of people working together to achieve something. That's the type of cacher I want to meet while out geocaching. They did the cache together, so everybody should be allowed to log it! GermanSailor Something people are missing here is that the person hoisted over the wall is ALWAYS A CHILD, the adults keep their feet safely on the ground. These children usually did not have caching experience prior to this cache.
  20. Not comparable, you can see the cache and stand at the coords, in the example I gave, the adults have no clue as to what the cache site looks like.
  21. It is different because you actually went to the cache site.
  22. Last October I did a cache in CA, reading the logs, only one other person has found this cache by himself. Everyone else dragoons some kid, they hoist him up to the top of a 10-12' high concrete wall and he goes down the other side to get the cache and sign everyone's name in. Here's one persons log: "I ain't going there, but with the help of DoubleD, first time cacher, we were able to locate it " This is typical. If a person doesnt see the cache site, is it a fair find? The cache is inside a concrete foundation left over from a cannery that was torn down. No way to it except up and over the wall. gcRM85 Another example, we have a local cacher who rushes to first to finds, if he does't find it, he waits in his vehicle until someone else shows up and suggests they make "a joint effort". Of course the other person is the one who finds it. He then claims a "joint effort" FTF Yes, I know it's just a game, but most games have ethics, with geocaching I'm sure everyone agrees that you should hide the cache like you found it and not leave it out in the open. Trade even or up, etc...
