  1. We have checked out the thread that tirediron suggested. There is so much controversy that we have decided not to leave any knives. People would have liked them, however!
  2. We have some swiss army knife type knives with other attachments like a corkscrew, scissors, etc., that we think people would like find in caches. What do people think about leaving this type of knife in a cache?
  3. We still use them because they can be placed practically out in the open and not be detected. We always take the geocaching sticker that we purchased through the site and put it on the side of the box. If people get close they can see that the part of the box that tells what kind of ammo was in it has been covered up. We put the name of the cache on the sticker so that if there is any trouble, we can be contacted. So far, no problems. Our caches are mostly in wooded areas, however, away from high security areas.
  4. Yes, I have a private pilot's license! VFR rated only. My boyfriend owned a plane so it seemed wise to learn to fly it. I'm licensed to fly older planes like the aercoupe (sp?), tripacer, colt, cherokee 140, American Trainer, Cessna 150. I'm married to a non-pilot now so geocaching is one of my new hobbies. I was never good at aerial navigation but seem to do better on the ground with my Etrex Vista.
  5. We have Birman cats, known for their blue eyes plus BluEyz has blue eyes! We were leaving wire paperclip bugs in caches for a while so the name "bugsy" was created. We left "bug" related items in all caches for a few months (ladybug candles, inflatable lady bug beachballs, bug pez, etc.) but are now leaving survival whistles.
  6. The design is attractive, but the cost is prohibitive. Staples was selling 3 cameras for $10 recently. That means that you should be able to bring the cost down a bit and still make a profit. I don't mind paying a little more to help the sport, but more than three times the price is too much for me.
  7. Nice idea! I see that you are ready to order, but I do have a question. If you print all the chips the same, won't they be less collectible then they would be if they were all different? Could the back be left blank so that the name of the cache or the coordinates could be added as they are placed in caches? Wouldn't that make geocachers want them more? There must be a type of pen that would be somewhat permanent that could be used. Just an idea...
  8. Since my husband's nickname is "Bugsy", we leave something "bug" related such as ladybug beachballs (uninflated!), Bugz pez, bug bookmarks, etc. We often also leave a gold dollar coin, just because we have a bunch of them and people enjoy spending or saving them.
  9. We have purchased our button machine and have been experimenting with it. Now we were wondering if there is an easy program to make buttons. We have been using draw and paint programs not specifically designed for button making and they work fairly well, but they could be better. Suggestions anyone?
