  1. Not a fan of sarcasm I take it???? Edit to thank Peconic Bay Sailors for the pointer to the Norton removal tool. I did not know such a thing existed. I will be running it on my other PC's and hope it will save me a few hours and headaches. I'll let you know what happens.
  2. For prepaid orders (check, credit card, or money order) standard shipping is 6.8% of the total cost of the order with a minimum of $6.80. WOW! (Just kidding from the other thread) Anyway, you can get those at Hobby Lobby and Pat Catan's and other hobby stores two in a pack. Best to save a cap of of a real soda bottle because the caps that come with them don't have a good seal.
  3. Related: I get TWO notifications of newly PUBLISHED listings. WHY? Instead of 15¢ I get charged 30¢ by my cell phone carrier...... Fix that too, willya?
  4. IE6 works fine for me on XP. No problems. Fast, too. Some nag boxes, but don't they all. Firefox, on the other hand, is beastly slow and 20% (minimum) of the rest of the net is unreadable/undisplayable. I gave up getting beat to death with nag boxes so I quit using it. Did I mention slooooooooowwwwwww? Norton. I hate Norton. I think Norton invents virii so they can sell ya Norton. Norton IS a virus. Too, once you got it, you can't get rid of it unless you really know what you are doing..... (msconfig, startup, ini etc)
  5. Be careful now, he did say "similar"". Not by even the most loose definition of the word. Similar = Having a likeness or resemblance. By definition, Waymarking is "similar" to scrapbooking. Scrapbooking = the hobby of creating compilations in scrapbook albums, such as keepsakes, pictures, periodical articles, etc. Well, now, that's an iffy one and "scrapbooking" is off the mark. Once a Waymark is posted and established in a Waymark Category, one can log that single Waymark just like a virtual the only exception being that there are no ALRs required. One can armchair as many as one would like, but it's darned near virtual in nature. Dunno if you can "visit" a scrapbook or not. Posting a new Waymark is like/similar/about the same as listing a locationless cache used to be on GC.COM. The function "Visit Waymark (Post Log)" for a posted waymark that you visit is like/similar/about the same as logging a virtual on GC.COM. (didn't say "used to be" there because you can still log grandaddy virtuals) Again, the only thing missing is the ALR.
  6. I really have to hand it to the reviewers and moderators...... some of the most petty stuff gets the biggest attention and whining here...... I had a cache submitted with the title "Is Your Pet Smart?" and was kindly asked by the reviewer to not use the phrase "Pet Smart" even though it's not the real name of the store. Big whoop. I change the name to "My Pet Goat." Geez. I had to type a dozen letters..... broke my heart it did. I don't think I'll ever list another cache.....
  7. I've seen items attached to concrete with a type of mastic/adhesive that was grey in color, went on with a small putty knife and dried to a hard substance. But, I can't remember the name of it. The tube could be attached with a small dab of that. No structural damage from that, just cosmetic. I'll try some research to see if I can find the name of it. Just so long as it is only cosmetic damage. Ummmm.... the first definition of DEFACE is COSMETIC DAMAGE. How can one presume that doing cosmetic damage is not, in fact, defacement?
  8. $18 to ship a Geko That's one thing you have to watch carefully on eBay. Shipping. I will not bid on anything that does not clearly tell you the actual shipping rate. It's one way to make an item look inexpensive when it's not. One reason my post said fifty bucks when the Buy It Now price is only $36 - shipping! I have purchased all my geocaching equipment from eBay. Three Magellans, Mapsend software, Dell Axim, buncha ammo boxes (tho lately they think they're made of gold) etc.. Oddly, my grandson's Geko I got at Target for $60 on sale

Chuy! Thanks, that works LOTS better than Teleflip (an Teleflip is preparing to charge ya $3 a month soon). Never heard of this SMS thing. Really appreciate the link. In my favorites. Now all I have to do is figure out why I get TWO notifications for every PUBLISH! Dunno why it does that.
  10. wap.geocaching.com will not permit a log for an archived cache or even a disabled cache.
  11. If you are lucky with a location. Just a few miles east of me, here's what I get in Google Earth or Google Maps. Not very useful..... +41° 14' 4.98", -80° 31' 8.52" (41.234717, -80.519033)
  12. After you click the "SUBMIT LOG" button, you will see your log and in the upper right corner of the window it will say [upload image]. Click there and it will tell you what to do. If you want to do it afterwards, find the cache in your list of caches on your account page, click [visit log] and you will get the same screen same stuff same place. After you upload an image from your computer, it will show and under the image it will say [upload another image] Do it as often as you need to.
  13. Looks like a great first find. Nice area if you view the SAT map. Welcome!
  14. I have a couple of caches where a wheelchair could make it to GZ.....someone confined to a wheelchair however, could not retrieve the cache. Wheelchair yes or no? Note it on the cache page just as you have stated it here. Some handiacapped individuals can stand for a short time. I would rate the terrain 1.5 tho and would not put the attribute on the page. Terrain 1 SHOULD BE automatically wheelchair accessible and 1.5 not so much. That's per custom and the guidelines. But one must rely on the hider. Difficulty/Terrain ratings.
  15. Are you doing paperless caching? Yes, Dell Axim 5 Pocket PC upgraded to Windows 2003 Are you using pocket queries? Yes, several. Daily, 24seven, olong a route Are you bookmarking the caches for the day? No, too much work and time. Are you using any 3rd party software? GPSBabel and GPXSonar on the Axim Are you using a Smart Phone/Pocket PC? See Above How are you finding your next set of finds? PQ or just "filter out finds" on My Account page I live in an area with a lot of places to hike/cache... How do I narrow down to just the caches I want to do today in one area or on one hike? Do a PQ with the center coordinates of where you want to go and limit the distance from that point using "Within a radius of KM or MILES" I see all these tools that are very feature rich in many cases basicly free and yet I have not figured out how to simplify my caching experance... But I have found many ways to make it more complex!??!!? What am I doing wrong? Nuttin' Can you guys give me examples and step by step instructions of what/how/why you are using and doing what you are? You'll need to read some posts here, there's mountains of information.
  16. There are some Garmin Geko GPS units on Ebay for about fifty bucks including shipping. My grandson uses one and it gets him there about as well as my Magellan Color! Click here for an example. Edit for spelling
  17. It is related. The OP suggests that you don't use your government ID (IE ham call signs etc) as your Geocaching name (IE handle). Not off topic, but very ON topic. By doing so you may be revealing information to the public that you may not want revealed.
  18. I am simply NONPLUSSED that the same people who wildly scream and rant over a petty thread like Are we allowing the degradation of geocaching?! would take such a casual view of the degradation of one of our countries higest honors which is bestowed upon some who have given much and especially some who have given their all. I do object. From what I've seen and heard in my life, a coupla GEO scratches or even a broken leg.... some of you good folks need to visit Bethesda. As a positive note - I would call it the green heart and design it with Signal as the main ingredient.
  19. HEY Carl! How ya doin' Sometimes I'll use one of these:
  20. Thanks! Here's one where the lake moves! Click here.
  21. I use GPSBabel. Simply because it's simple. It's a command based program with open source and I use it most often with .BAT files which call up the core GPSBabel and in seconds I have a copy: of my waypoints on the SD Card of my waypoints on my gps by serial transfer of my gpx file on my Del Axim Unzip, double click a bat file and in a few seconds I'm ready to go. That's all I really need. GPSBabel includes a pretty good GUI with all the options mouse selectable if you're not into command line. Here's a sample of my .bat for my daily PQ GPX: REM TRANSFER WAYPOINTS WITH SMART NAMES TO MAGELLAN SERIAL c:\gpsbabel\gpsbabel.exe -p "" -w -s -i gpx -f "I:\1129311\1129311.gpx" -o magellan,deficon=shooting,nukewpt=1 -F com1: REM PASS ON THE GPX FILE WITH SMART NAMES TO AXIM c:\gpsbabel\gpsbabel.exe -p "" -w -s -i gpx -f "I:\1129311\1129311.gpx" -o gpx -F "H:\daily.gpx" REM CREATE WPT FILE FOR MAGELLAN WITH SMART NAMES c:\gpsbabel\gpsbabel.exe -p "" -w -s -i gpx -f "I:\1129311\1129311.gpx" -o magellan, deficon=shooting -F "G:\daily.wpt"
  22. It's the scrollable box in the lower right side of the page. Copy (CTRL/C) the HTML you need to PASTE (CTRL/V) into that little scrollbox. I'd have a screen shot for you, but the site's down....
