  1. How so? I've suggested different D/T and once it's changed it did not change my stats... I use feedback from the logs to adjust my difficulty ratings frequently. Sometimes I think a cache will be hard and it turns out to be easy and sometimes it is the opposite. I think it's more important to get it right. Yes! This is good advice. i've learned to use the feedback in my logs to adjust my D/T if needed. Of course i am new and so i rated my caches a bit higher. The finders have mostly been 500+ cachers so they find it easily. i kind of split the difference, keeping newer and more experienced cachers in mind.
  2. Thanks for posting this. Interesting information. i have a fake electrical box as a cache in my yard. It's obviously fake and i would hope parents make wise decisions whether they allow their kids to find it. The blog makes me aware that i should be more careful when searching around real electrical stuff and LPs. Scary!
  3. Awesome! Thank you! Have to have it!
  4. http://geolex.locusprime.net/ “Tool Of The Trade”. This generally indicates that some type of tool or instrument may be required to retrieve or gain access to a cache. The nature of the tool is usually not specified, but there may be hints within the cache page. It could be an actual tool, such as a screwdriver, or something as simple as a long stick to retrieve a cache from a high perch.
  5. That beach container is about the size of my plastic spice jar! i would consider it small. To me micro is 35mm film can or smaller (bison tubes).
  6. i do agree with that. i have paid for 5 of my 7 cache containers. They're pretty cool. But, necessity is the mother of invention! i love to see home made containers. Part of the fun of caching for me is seeing all the different containers. And then getting to know what works and what doesn't. Are ammo cans waterproof? i found one the other day with water in it and was shocked!
  7. i have a cache made like this! It's awesome and waterproof! However, it was *not cheap.
  8. There's a caching team here that uses Jiff peanut butter jars. They are fantastic! All the caches of theirs are dry inside! Even when the outsides were muddy. We get torrential downpours here too. i have one peanut butter jar that i put bleach water in and let soak. i haven't hidden it yet but i will. i have a plastic spice jar as a cache. i also have a plastic jar that once help those alcohol face pads. Both are holding up great. i got an ammo can for $8 at a geocaching store in cocoa!
  9. i use my BlackBerry to cache so i always have a camera with me. i love taking pics of log books and the container if appropriate. My gallery is filled with pix!
  10. Oh and i'll be getting pepper spray (bear strength) in case an animal or person attacks me.
  11. Welcome to the game! It's so fun. Here's some stuff i carry: First aid kit Tweezer (for micros and nanos) Signal mirror Whistle Water purification tablets Emergency foil blanket Calamine lotion for itchy bug bites and or/ poison oak/ivy reactions Snake bite kit Extra sunglasses Flare
  12. Vegan coin Yoga coin (individual coins with different poses on it ir different styles of yoga) Om coin BlackBerry coin Cryptogram coin Cat Stevens coin Subaru Outback coin
  13. Are you seriously afraid? Even if you did meet someone in the woods they probably wouldn't hurt you... Plus you could just fight back! Or if you fear they have a weapon... Run. i've aborted some cache searches due to it being too deep in the woods and something creeped me out. That happened today. i had 300 more feet to go deep into a trail and i came across an area with lots of trash. Car tires, a boat, food containers. i got the chills and immediately left the area and headed to my car. i won't go for that cache alone again. i don't expect to be attacked but you never know. i'd fight back but against a few mountain men i'd not do well. i can't find pepper spray in my town, i've looked in walmart and walgreens.
  14. Do any geocaching GPSr have an emergency bacon? So i could hit a button and it transmit an SOS and my location?
  15. i'll pretend i didn't hear the iPhone remark! ha That's a good idea. Honestly, the battery life of my BlackBerry when caching is getting me down. i charge it in the car when i can but that doesn't help for woods caches (which i do a lot of). So i will probably get a cheap GPSr to load routes and use the BlackBerry for spontaneous caching. i want to be able to drive, say, 50 miles and grab caches along the way. Or do a trail in one direction. As it is now, i walk down a path get cache, turn around and walk back for second cache...bleh.
  16. Where can i get pepper spray? i'm nervous now Anyone in SW FL need a caching partner?
  17. i love using my BlackBerry to cache. However i sometimes find myself driving and walking to and fro from cache to cache because the app i use lists cache distances ATCF of course. Is there any way to create or upload a route onto my BlackBerry? If not, i may have to get a GPS! Are there any GPSr that work like the BlackBerry app? My issue is that i don't own a PC. i like pulling up closest caches where ever i am and not having to load caches via a PC. If i did get a GPS i would like it to work like the BlackBerry app. i'd get to a PC to load routes for trips though as that would be a lot less frequent than loading caches for short trips in nearby towns. Any suggestions would be great! Thanks!
  18. i used plastic. Seems good so far! Checked on it the other day.
  19. Ok, thanks for the advice. It's a tad taller than the one pictured. It's placed already so i can't fill it with water. But i'll to that in the future to measure!
  20. i used to think i was being stealthy. However, so many folks have asked "what are you looking for?" "Are you lost" "are you looking for turtles" that i realize i'm not as ninja-like as i thought. i can't help it, i search hard. The harder the cache, the more suspicious i look. i'm on my knees, climbing up a tree, touching everything and walking in circles very quickly, then doing an abrupt about face. However, after i do all that and find the cache i usually don't grab it right away. i stop and try to look normal again and take a peek around to see if anyone is looking, if i attracted a crowd etc. Then when i think the coast is clear i make a quick grab and hide the container (in my backpack usually, then get the log out and sign. i put the cache back as smoothly as possible. i don't want to get the cache muggles nor do i want people asking what i'm doing. i get flustered and have a hard time explaining what caching is. And muggles annoy me when they search with me because they point at everything and ask "is that it"? Ha. That's my technique!
  21. Where can i find out if there's an EC Event in my area on 10/10/10?
