  1. I would like to place a cache there, yes. But that's not the reason it needs to go. I've gotten other caches archived for the same reason as this one. The CO isn't doing upkeep. That's a reason to archive to me. Someone who places a cache then leaves it is leaving garbage. I have no need to be sneaky. I told the reviewer that I removed the cache and that I'll reuse that container for another cache. I won't replace the cache in the same location. I emailed the CO in July about the cache. That is enough time for them to repair and update it.
  2. What I'll do then is put a broken container back, along with the full log sheet. Is that any better really? Then logs a NM, then a NA? Seems silly. I'm a local and I'm going to help maintain the parks here like I have done. That includes getting rid of geolitter. I've had about 6 other caches archived no problem.
  3. Isn't it in the guidelines that a CO must actively maintain their caches?
  4. Not counting my find, it hasn't been found in 7 months. And it wouldn't be because it's rated a 1 and it's not a 1. It's in an area that get flooded regularly.
  5. It needs to be archived because the CO hasn't logged on in a year. The T is now a 3 not a 1 The D is a 2 not a 1 because it's half buried in mud. It's litter imo. I replaced it once when the old container was cracked. I'm not doing that again. I'd rather replace it with my own cache.
  6. That's probably what the reviewer thought too. I doubt it would be found again. I removed the cache. I'm not going to replace it so I guess I'll just wait. If a CO isn't maintaining it and they're not active, that is trash in my opinion. And this is a county park that I love. I don't want trash in it. I'll wait and see what th reviewer says.
  7. Ok. I send the reviewer another plea to archive the cache. I removed the cache. It is dry inside I'll give it that. But the area is different than when it was first hidden. The CO hasn't logged in in a year it looks like. The CO has many other archived caches. Not sure why this one is sticking! They said if it was missing or damaged it would be archived.
  8. Have you gone to Member Features and created new alert notifications? You can set what type of caches (among other filters such as container size) and your radius. Click on your name (Top Right), then click on Member Features. Scroll down Click on Create Also make sure the emails aren't going into your spam folder.
  9. Happy Tofurkey Day! I hid 4 caches in celebration of Thanksgiving.
  10. How do I go about adopting a cache when the CO is no longer active or maintaining their caches? I tried to get one archived because it's rated incorrectly, not being maintained and is now half plugged in mud. The reviewer said they won't archive it because it's someone else's property. The CO hasn't replied to my emails. Any advice?
  11. The only nano I liked was in a pinecone. Other than clever ones like that, I'm sick of them! I don't have any nanos hid, never will. I have one bison tube on the bottom on a bench in an awesome park. My others are small or regular containers. I hide what I like to find.
  12. Makes sense. I will go with rechargeable to everyday use. I'll be using it mostly in very hot weather though. So far I'm impressed with the battery life of the Colorado. I'm used to my BlackBerry dying every 2 hours. Thanks for all the input!
  13. Awesome. Thanks for the advice and information!
  14. Having forethought and a plan is good, I agree. I tend to just go about my business of searching when a cop, security officer or muggle is watching. I notice them but I don't get nervous nor do I keep looking at them. If they have questions, they can approach me. If, after I explain, a cop tells me to stop, I would. That's never happened though. So far I get half of the questioners saying "neat" and the other half telling me caching sounds horrible. Oh well. I once was searching a cache on a bridge and there was work across the street. The foreman called over to me and asked if I was OSHA. When I walked over to show him the cache he pretty much lectured me and told me to scram. He asked what the cops would do if they saw me. I told him geocaching wasn't illegal but that I'd make a note in my log about his wishes. He hurt my feelings and intimidated me. But that doesn't stop me from going about my hunt. I even searched there again with another cacher later on. Said cacher gave the lecturer the business...that I liked. Either way, I don't find it a big deal. I like to be left alone.
  15. Ok, regular ones last longest? Thanks. No, I don't have anything with batteries except my remote control. They've had the same ones since I got cable (6 months). I don't own a lamp either. Shocking? Not really.
  16. This geostore is awesome! I've been there physically and also bought online. Great quality containers and the best prices! Highly recommend! http://www.shop.spacecoastgeocachers.com/
  17. I love my yard cache (The Battle Of Brandywine). It's fun to watch cachers. People who are creeped out will skip it I'm sure. My husband keeps threatening to go out and yell, "what are you doing in my yard!" I won't let him though! Sometimes I almost go out when they don't find it right away because I feel so bad for them! Ha
  18. You're way overthinking this, OP. Just geocache and don't worry about the cops bothering you. We've probably all been questioned at one time or another. It's not because you're 17. It's not your tats. It's because we are looking and sometimes lurking. It draws attention. I'm a girl who couldn't look more innocent and I've been stopped a few times and had to explain. No biggie. Just be respectful to the environment and you'll be fine.
  19. I noticed my GPS, a Garmin Colorado, has an option to select which type of battery I have installed. Which is best to use? I haven't bought batteries in years and I'm new to GPSrs. Thanks so much!
  20. That brings the whole lame cache and cachers who hunt them argument. It's been posted many times that lame caches deserve lame logs. I can't totally diagree with that. I try to not do caches I won't like, but I get tricked or am with a group sometimes. I usually don't even sign or log them. I don't want to encourage hides I abhor. Others can do that. I wish everyone would quit logging lame caches and they would slowly go away, but I won't hold my breath. I never said any cache was lame. I think every cache has its value, whether it's a nice hike or a LPC. I prefer the long hikes and great scenery with ammo cans, yes. But I also appreciate the quickies when I just want a cache fix or I'm out somewhere doing something not fun (shopping etc) and I can get a quick cache to make a chore a little fun! My logs are appropriate to the situation in that I have a lot to write after I've had a long hike and search. There's just not much to say on a PNG. I still make it somewhat unique. But I'd rather just be able to log all the quickies in bulk. As a CO I don't really care what finders log. That's their deal. I hide and find for myself, not for others. I don't depend on others to satisfy me. I'm delighted with a longer log or a TFTC. Both are good because it shows I helped the finder have fun.
  21. I'd like a way to bulk log the skirts or "numbers runs" caches. Otherwise, I write long logs for unique caches. I think both these logs are appropriate to the situation and that the respective CO would agree. Examples: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LU...88-d450c4a7ecbd http://www.geocaching.com/seek/log.aspx?LU...a6-a87f61fa02de I think it's all about knowing when to use what logging style. Imo
  22. I think it's folks temperament and their willingness to learn that make them either a newb or experienced. That and variety of their experiences. That's all.
  23. As far as I know only smartphones have the internet access to be able to connect with geocaching.com OTA (over the air, or in the field). You'll need to create and load Pocket Queries onto your GPS using a PC. I use both a BlackBerry and a Garmin Colorado. The Colorado is new to me. I loaded the 1000 closest caches onto it so it is similar to using my BlackBerry in that I can fire it up and go to the closest cache, granted I'm within 50 miles. I still use my BlackBerry along with the Colorado to log while I'm in the field, or if I want to read all the logs for a cache. Or if I want to find a cache that isn't loaded onto the Colorado. They work very well together.
  24. I use stand-alone GPS on my BlackBerry Tour with Blackstar. This way I can turn off the radio and save battery. BlackBerry Maps also uses the GPS (not A-GPS). All you need to do is turn off the Network Connection and you'll be using GPS and not A.
