Well done to TV&M and The Huskies for these great milestones. I'm ashamed to look at my own figures!
  2. Hey, here's the right forum! Congratulations to Aaron & Taryn on the new cache-hunter. Hope he brings you lots of joy and fun and pride. And when you're old and doddering, he can go out and log caches on your behalf!! All the best!

Probably not the right forum for it, but congratulations to Vespax and the non-geocacher on the addition to the team! What a great find, guys!

Thanks also to The Huskies & Tricky Vicky and Mickey for the good wishes - couldn't have done it without you guys!

Thanks for the post, Wolkynou! Yup, the second ton took a lot less time than the first!
  6. I'll be back in CT by then; coffee sounds good to me!
  7. Hey guys! I've been on the road for several days and haven't been able to keep tabs on the forums. I think it is a great idea for Garmin to be involved in the annual national event cache, and I'm quite happy for them to organise / arrange things and provide sponsorship. It would be great to see more involvement from the guys who provide us with the means to participate in this pastime.
  8. I enjoyed my brief trip to the zoo on Saturday after the event cache. Even though there's not much left to see except for the lion den, it brought back lots of fond memories. Thanks for the cache, dudes!
  9. I always have a bottle opener. You never know when you might run into a fellow cacher with some cold frosties in the boot!
  10. Some more thoughts on the topic: since people would be more likely to vote for caches in their immediate area, the ones they are most familiar with, how about awarding prizes for the best caches in each province? And do we exclude caches placed by players who are no longer active? I also think it should be annual as opposed to bi-annual, so we could tie in the awards with an annual national event cache. Any comments?
  11. It would have to be some place central, that everyone could get to without having to drive too far. Gariep Dam, perhaps? Of course, the KZN cachers would have to detour around Lesotho but it's still reachable.
  12. I need to go up there again and have a look around. Seeing the ruins might just jog my memory as to what was where. I'll try not to trip and split my lip again.
  13. I'd like to suggest some categories: Most Rewarding Scenery/Vista, Most Original Placement, Most Challenging Hunt. And perhaps even: Most Fun To Find.

Forget the Indie 500, it's the TV&M 500 that rules! Well done to you both on reaching this awe-inspiring milestone. And Happy 38th to Mickey!

Congratulations to the teams reaching milestones at the International CITO Event - ZAlandyman&SuzieQ (100), Vespaxvespa (200) and The Huskies (300). Did I miss anyone? Oh, and me (150).
  16. I agree that we should keep to areas where public access is permitted, whether one has to pay a fee or not. Although I'm also not that much in favour of caches being placed in commercial venues that require entrance fees, etc.
  17. You guys are obviously on the same wavelength. Which one got logged in the end, and is the other one still there, waiting to be found?
  18. The order has been placed and the deposit paid, so production of the t-shirts is under way. Well done to all involved in getting us to this point: three cheers for Bear, Guido, Vespaxvespa and Larks!
  19. Yeah, I think everyone who has wanted to say anything has said it. Time to move on - let's get caching and have a good time at the CITO.
  20. Yes indeed, you are quite correct and I'm sorry for offending people by questioning their ethics. It was an unfortunately harsh choice of words taken in the heat of the moment. My apologies for that, then.
  21. I guess that all depends on how the cache owner has set up the virtual or locationless cache. In many cases, the seeker is encouraged to make use of the Internet or other resources to find the answer, thereby enabling them to log the find without having to visit the site. Others would require that you visit the site to obtain information not available anywhere else. I don't have a problem with this, if the conditions set by the cache owner have been met.
  22. I know this is a contentious issue which has probably been discussed before, but I'm going to raise it here again. There is a growing tendency to log missing / stolen caches as 'Found', and I want to question this practice. How can one log a find if the cache container has been stolen or moved? You haven't found it, you've only found the spot where it was hidden. Last weekend vespaxvespa and I 'found' TV&M's Sea View cache using the old clues, which lead us to an empty pile of stones. Visiting the web page again, we realised that the original cache had been muggled, and a new one placed in a new spot. We both logged DNF's, but if finding the original hiding spot qualifies us for a find, then I'm going to log it as such. Come on, guys! The quest for scoreboard points shouldn't compromise our ethics in this game/pastime. Be honest and log a DNF (there's no shame in it), and if the cache is replaced, go out again and find it.
  23. I seem to have missed this post. Great news! We can add them to the lucky prize draw, yes?
