  1. Hi Maureen,

I'm also with the Fraser Valley BCHBC and we got into geocaching after I wrote an article about geocaching on horseback for Trail Blazer magazine.

So far there aren't any groups dedicated to both horses and geocaching, or none that I've located, and none at the time I wrote my article last year.

Mostly its just a case of finding caches that are located in an area that allows horses and geocaching on horseback. A lot of the time it means going with a buddy who can hold the horses while the one with the gps goes through the underbrush to find the cache.

  2. Sorry guys. You probably get bombarded with questions after Christmas while everyone is trying out their new units.

I got an Extrex Legend for my husband for Christmas. We've done all the set up things, have located a satellite, moved around the menus, and read the instruction manual. We located a cache near our house and downloaded the waypoints using the Easy GPS that we downloaded. Clicked on send to get it into the GPS and for the life of us we can't find where it is stored in the unit, unless of course something went wrong while downloading the information and its simply not there. We manually entered the waypoints and the GPS shows its a mile and a half from our house. So we're ready to go but still haven't tried to locate the cache.

I've gone through the manual again and I just can't figure out where I can find the cache information that I downloaded from the computer. Can anyone help me with a step by step through the menu options?

I tried to use the Search feature on the forums to see if someone has already asked this question but I got a message saying I can't use the Search feature.

    Thanks for your help!

  3. She stapled my receipt to the store policy which is 2 pages worth warranty information on items they sell - tents, bikes, tools, pools, TV's, etc. There's a one year warranty on repairs but otherwise non-returnable. No software in the package, but I think the suggestion about weekend GPS and they return sounds logical.

  4. After following conversations and recommendations on here I bought my husband an Etrex Legend for Christmas, but was surprised when the cashier asked if I was aware the GPS was a non-returnable item. I asked her if it didn't work did that mean I was stuck with it, and she said no. The next cashier over said they are returnable only if still in original packaging. I'm not planning to return it because I know he wants one and wants to get into geocaching, but I was wondering if this is normal, and why a GPS is non returnable.

  5. This might sound a little weird but I need to get a photo of myself on a horse finding a cache before the end of May. Though I don't need to be the one finding the cache. I'm quite willing to tag along and piggyback on someone else's success and pretend I found it while my husband snaps a picture.

Come on, give it up. You can't just throw that out without telling the rest of the story. :surprise:

Nothing too sinister! I need a photo to accompany an article about going geocaching on horseback. Hey it doesn't matter to me if somebody else wants to sit on my horse for a photo op!

  6. If someone in the Lower Mainland area is planning to go geocaching between now and the end of May and going to an area where horses are allowed, my husband and I would love to tag along and watch you in action. 7. Thanks everyone for your responses. I occasionally write articles for horse magazines so I was thinking an article about geocaching on horseback would be different. It looks like my focus may be about geocache first and if you want to saddle up there are caches accessible that way too, making the horse part secondary. I'll have to think more on this one.
