  1. ugh, it's so bloody hot outside now that it's officially summer, i dont want to do anything, geocacheing or not, but I like to go at night here around orlando, even then its still super hot and humid liek you wouldnt believe
  2. I used to live in Duluth, the cache must have been published in the winter, which is why i assume it was still blank after 2 or 3 days of sitting out,
  3. When you go shopping now do you look for containers that might work as geocaches? for example have you switched your coffee purchases from a bag to a can so you can use the can later as a geocache?
  4. if you come here, ill pull you over.... rawr I'm waiting on that ring pop tb you mentioned... le sigh, canadian girls are the best,
  5. if you come here, ill pull you over.... rawr
  6. well since a lot of geocachers have had run ins with the cops, i listed a few tips for getting out of it unscathed, how i got pulled over has nothing to do with geocaching, but geocaching as an excuse helped me get off the hook. the point is to be honest, but not to admit to anything. the other tips will get you a long way to get out of ay sort of tickets. i just thought it was weird that he gave me a verbal, and even though he didnt know anything about geocaching he honestly believed thats what i was doing and didnt question the weird assortment of tools in my car any longer, and i honestly didnt tell him i was fumbling with my gps, i should edit that part out of the above thread, i told him i was looking for such and such street where a geocache was supposed ot be and i was lost, and asked him for directions. cops love giving directions, they can actually write it off as a civil service of sorts, i heard somewhere they supposedly have to get so many of these civil service points per quote period, things like helping someone change a tire, giving directions, and following a junk car to a mechanic, this can help you if you ever get approached, you can always admit to being lost there is no fine for that. and cops are almost always willing to help you get back on track, plus its a good distraction to get them from badgering you with questions
  7. what's a guideline? is that like a new drug or something?
  8. ot pulled over last night by a traffic cop for running a red light (supposedly) and making a left turn without a turn signal, course it was like 2pm on a wed night, so there was NOBODY around, (well except for the cop) ive delt with cops so many times i know how to handle myself so they can relax a little bit and not be so on edge.... for example.... Never admit to anything, let them make up a story for you if they want to, but never actually admit to anything, Always refer to them as "officer, or sir or ma'me(SP?) this will get you a long long way with cops if you at least act like you respect them when they stop you. As soon as you see the blinking lights, or flashlights in some case, put your hands where they can see them, no do not put them above your head, you are not guilty until proven so, just out, empty and always in plain sight. never make any sudden movements, such as running, or reaching for something, this is a good way to put a cop on edge, because although they serve the community (supposedly) they have to consider their own life first, and if you go reaching into your glove box before being asked to, or asking permission to, they will automatically assume you are going for a weapon, with good reason as people do that sort of stuff with cops all the time. big mistake, this is the best way to get shot by a cop. with that in mind, always ask for permission to grab anything you might be asked for, and never grab anything you are not asked for, if the cop asks for your liscense and registration, tell them "its in my glove box, and wait for them to tell you you can grab it, they will usually shine their light on your glove box and watch for you to grab it, they are protecting themselves like stated before and if you take this into consideration they will give you much less of a hard time. remember you do not need to explain anything, you are pleading guilty if you do, and you are not guilty until proven so. also generally if you know you will be out late at night, try to keep any paraphillia or bizare tools out of your car, or out of sight, (i made that mistake last night, as i had all sorts of tools and such for geocaching in my back seat, cops WILL look in your car through the windows, and they are allowed to look through the windows, they are NOT allowed to search the closed parts of your car without permission form you unless they have probable cause, which would be in this case a back seat full of weird looking tools. how this relates to geocaching.... well, honeslty i was out looking for geocaches all night, (but when i got pulled over i was heading to a dumpster to check out some stuff i saw from the road, completely impulsive, and little did i know there was a cop watching the whole thing, well i told the cop i had missed my exit, and i was out looking for geocaches, he didnt know what that was, but he understood i was telling the truth (and i was to an extent) so he let me off with a verbal warning. it also helped there was a high speed chase nearby which i heard come over his radio while he was standing there, and he wanted to be a part of it, so he ran off. saved me a bunch of money, thanks geocaching! you could save a bundle on car insurance by simply telling cops you missed your turn because you were fumbling with your gps looking for a geocache.
  9. although it would stress me out too, and i would feel like i didnt get a proper chance to find the cache on my own being there with all those people, the group in my area are all pretty much friends or so i gather, so i guess they all enjoy getting there at the same time, and looking together. I really like going by myself at night, its really creepy, probably not the brightest idea, but less people to worry about seeing me, and i get to see all sorts of animals i wouldnt normally see with other people making noise scaring them all away. if its a particularly deep woods cache, i go by myself during the day, to make sure i can see the dangers.
  10. The last few caches Ive had published are found within minutes of them being published. I get notifications from my reviewer when my cache is published, and when someone logs they found it online. It's interesting to see al lthe people who log it within the first few hours thinking they would be the FTF, but were beaten, I generally find the FTF crowd to not necessarily care about the cache, or its location, just being the FTF is all that matters. And this is fine we all play the game differently, but honestly I dont care about being a FTF, I'm sure this is not necessarily the case with trail caches, but my urban hides get found almost right away. And almost always by the same people. What's the fastest you've ever logged a FTF?
  11. unless its 25ft off and is a nano on an elevated trail or even in a multi story parking garage, and the description gives no good hints. then lots of people will complain
  12. why when i can send mind control waves to forum members who will do it for me?
  13. I also leave plenty of hints for cachers in the description because generally my android phone's gps gets me about 9-30ft (depending on tree cover and other factors) from GZ, so I HAVE to put hints on my page, good ones at that, or people will never find my caches because of the margin of error from using a smartphones gps to place it. Im headed out here in a bit to go check up on one that has significant tree cover, and I have had to adjust the coordinantes a few times to get it honed in, people seem to be finding it pretty easy due to my blatant hints, but just to be sure people do not ruin the shrubbery i'm going back one more time with a borrowed gps unit. I WANT people to find this hide, rather than get stared at for half an hour while they frustratingly scour every bush in the area because my coords were 14ft off or their gps units are bouncing around due to tree cover.
  14. So I take it you never sought permission? This was on land right across the street from a public park, well outside of the private property signed fence, that was surrounding an old navy hospital which has been closed for several years now. I figured where I placed my cache was public property and therefore no real need to gain approval. I have since been informed by my reviewer that my cache was well within the property line, and I had to either gain adequate approval or move it, so i moved it, since i wouldnt even know where to start to get approval for federal property no longer maintained by the government. My question was asking did he just guess this was where the property line was or is there some sort of tool i can use to check next time around?
  15. I figured my jokes were painfully obvious at this point,
  16. is there a site or a tool that allows the hider to see property lines? apparently i hid my newest one within the property lines of a government building, it was well outside of the fence, and therefore i figured it was outside the property lines, any help?
  17. I think you are right. A stack of buckets would certainly qualify as "unique". If I were to glue a film can in a used Starbucks cup, place it in a field, then dump a semi truck load of other used Starbucks cups on top of it, that would also be unique, in that I don't think it's ever been done. There would even be folks out there that enjoyed it. Meh. To each their own. I have my opinion, and I am willing to share it. You have your opinion. Ashnikes has his opinion. Life goes on. The Dude abides. what a fantastic idea! But I wouldnt use starbucks cups, they are an evil corporation, i'de use seattles best of course.
  18. ok so wrong comparison, but still, how is a strip of paper a logbook? and therefore how is a nano a geocache? but what else could it be?
  19. well... if you had read the entire post, its a little different, and the outcome is definitely different. (as I have decided to remove the cache in question) sorry to have upset you, remember..... breathe.
  20. With absolutely no room for anything other than a small strip of paper, which is not even generally big enough to ad more than a few signitures before the log has to be replaced, how are nano's not letterboxes, or something else besides geocaches?
  21. What do you use radar for? Only in the context of geocaching please, I know what radar is used for. To the OP. Google Earth is okay for getting a general idea of where a cache is/might be but it is not considered appropriate for placing caches. radar as in the geocaching android app, not like weather radar
