  1. I think i found this one today, at ucf near the psychology building, you sure you replaced it? nearly the same contents and everything. A badly leaking lighter, a beer bottle cap, a pants rivet style button, and a log that had turned into mud. there were several NM logs on the cache page, so i didnt bother making a new one, left a plastic horse, figured it would hold up a bit, and removed the lighter beer bottle cap, and button in exchange, cleaned out the mud in the container, and cleaned out some of the debris that was preventing the cache from being hidden as im sure it was supposed to be in its man made hole. got the smiley.
  2. got it published, hopefully someone finds it now, hahahaa heres my cache in question with the cache law.... GC29VFJ
  3. its alright, anyone who comes into a forum with lots of energy, and somewhat of a voiceful opinion, gets bashed by the vets, in any forum ever. I have not taken offense to anyone in this forum, in fact i think the anger, and slander campaigns are actually pretty amusing. I also find it amusing when someone asks a question they get 35 of the same exact answer, like people write and submit their thoughts either without reading the other responses, or just feel the need to chiime in with almost carbon copies of the person above thems thouhgts on the subject. and for those of us who do not agree with the majority we get the bucket of crabs dumped on us. If i were the type to take offense to any of this i would have left the forums a long time ago. Honestly, i love geocatching, it hink its the coolest modern form of treasure hunting out there, i think its a great family activity, (if your kids can sit still long enough and oyu can pull them away from their iphones and xboxes for more than a few minutes) its refreshing to be outside with some sort of purpouse, and mystery destination. I have a bunch of ideas for hides, and it stinks some of the guidlines prevent me from hiding them the way i want ot hide them and im glad i can come on this forum and question those guidelines, and get some honest feedback and reasons for the whys (inbetween the garbage responses that are a waste of time for the writer, as well as the lurker / reader) which is another reason i keep coming back, i read a lot more topics than i post in, my cache will get published, i fixed the issues, and it now follows all guidelines, and it will be a refreshing LARGE cache nestled in between tons of the micro manias in my area.
  4. hmmm excellent idea, i think i will start calling them,
  5. thanks for the advice everyone, i "unsubmerged" my cache, and am re-submitting it for review for the like 10th time. I hope people have fun looking for it.
  6. ive been inside several library dumpsters, and EVERY SINGLE ONE ive been in had books in it. the reason they have to toss books out, well there are a few reasons, it costs the library money to catalogue books, it costs labor, as well as realestate, there just isnt enough space in any library for all the books donated on a daily basis, they cant possibly sell all the books they receive on the book sale, again there is not enough space, and honestly not enough people visit the library to buy books, after a few weeks in the sale bin the books have to be tossed. again it costs money to pay the workers to do all this, EVERYTHING you could potentially buy gets thrown away at some point. I dont see why its so far fetched to think books are getting tossed out on a daily basis, people read more online these days, and its much easier to find your books online, your thoughts?
  7. my cache is not buried, its sunk most of the way in the ground, but does not require a shovel to get to it, or inside of it. im not sure if someone from these forums reported this disinformation to my reviewer about the multi cache i have been trying to get published for a week now, but ide appreciate it if you contact me first next time, so i can give you the coordinantes, so you can go have a look for yourself. Im trying to play the game, and abide by the rules, im reading the forums, posting questions i need answered, and answering questions to the best of my knowledge, i am not trying to offend anyone, so im sorry if you take offense to me, but if you have tried to prevent me from hiding my cache, ide like to know what the issues was you had with it. thanks.
  8. as for placing a cache on a dumpster with the idea being for the cacher to take the dumpster stuff, this particular dumpster is in front of a library, obviously, a public library, which tosses awesome books on a daily basis for several reasons, therefore the cacher is taken by the gps to a place where books are being "given away" via a big metal container, sounds a lot like a cache to me. Its not buried, its in plain sight, there is no political agenda, there are books for the whole family in there, and although it says to go after hours, (hours have been posted on the cache page) it is available at all times of the day and night. I am not forcing anyone to go in the dumpster as the cache is on the outside of it, but I am offering swag for those who want to go get it. The micro is not soliciting my favorite business, it is not meant to be a png, although some have been making it one, and when i perform maintenance on this one, if i find business cards or advertisements of any kind, they will be removed since it is my cache and therefore i have my permission to do with it as i see fit. Im happy to have so many floridians posting in this topic, its nice you all came out to say hello, maybe ill see you around soon, as for jambalaya, its on my list, just need a little more gas money to go head out that way and get it done.
  9. Wow... are you still here? I used to live in long island, levittown to be exact, have you ever fed the deer on jonesbeach?
  10. You know it's against the guidelines and did it anyways. Need anymore be said? hmmm did you not read the part where i said i did not bury it all the way therefore it is not technically buried?
  11. uhmm if that statement was directed twards me i know its against the rules to bury caches, i burried mine most of the way, but the cacher looking for mine only has to uncover debris off of the lid which is not burried to get inside the container. it is not fully submerged in mother earth. unless you consider burying caches under debris that is easily uncovered such as sticks stones and leaves being completely burried, even though the lid is still easily seen, would submerging a cache under water be considered burying it? how about planting one inside of a cave or insude a lamp post skirt as it would now be completely hidden inside of something else, placing a cache inside a very thick bush would be burying it, inside a building would be burying it, in a tree, in a rock, etc etc etc. what are your thoughts, cue hateful statements which have nothing to do with the op's topic, but rather with me being banned because i supposedly have a bad additive, and / or statements that tell me to find a new game because this one is obviously not for me since i dont know how to ignore caches I dont like.
  12. I think he placed it to encourage people to dumpster dive next to it. precisely, and therefore it is not technically a micro, but rather a large cache for those brave enough to peak inside and trade out swag for real trash.
  13. nothing is hard if you sit and think about it for a few seconds. dropping a film canister in a shrub outside your favorite business takes no thought.
  14. thats what i did, i buried mine 98%, its a large ice cooler, so that only the lid is above ground, then put rocks on the lid to keep it shut, then covered everything with sticks and palm leaves. its very large, and full of goodies, its just not published yet, but almost.
  15. hmmm... very good points everyone... and yes i could chose to ignore the things in life i do not agree with. I was under the impression geocaching was a game for everyone interested in it in some form or another. i understand some people want to hide caches where they are convenient to maintain, a favorite store you shop or work in frequently is a grand place i suppose, and thats great, hiding your cache, a micro, which is nothing more than a log in a pill bottle, in front of a national, and in some cases international chain store is lame. Putting your business card inside, is even lamer, telling everyone on the cache page its your favorite place to shop, fine, thats great, help bring the business... business. I came, got your smiley, and left, thinking this is a part of geocaching i think is lame. there was no prize, except that i found someones mouth to mouth advertising for their favorite national chain store, nothing historically significant, no wondrous architectural ingenuity, the cache itself wasnt even awesome. If the cacher had not been lazy, and perhaps made his black 35mm container inside of a sailboat, on the roof, with a puzzle attached or something, it would have been fun. having to search through low shrubbery for half an hour to find a wet log in a plain jane 35mm container, basically put right on the building of this boating store to show me where some guys favorite boating store was located was lame. im ranting in an online forum to people who geocache same as i do, because i thought it was a lame and lazy way to geocache, and honestly not worth anyones time to go retrieve. (i guess unless you want to improve your numbers, which i understand some people do.) i wanted reassurance i wasnt the only one who thought this form of geocaching was lame, and some of you agreed, some of you didnt, some of you just plain hate my guts because i like your wife or husband or kids or sig other, complain to you about things that happen to them during the course of their day, you have no control over. i got some reassurance that this type of planting of a cache was lazy and really only about the numbers, and thats all i wanted. cue hateful remarks towards me now about how i should stop geocaching, because i hate MOST micros, which are placed obviously in front of chain stores, for no reason other than number counting, in lame non creative containers, with no real swag for me to exchange with. or how I hate looking for an hour in the woods for an ammo can only to find the only swag inside of it are business cards and pamphlets. other than those two things, i love geocaching, and am hiding my own caches, as well as trading out poor swag for awesome swag, because thats the part of the game i love the most, besides being able to find new cool places other people love, and loving them in turn myself.
  16. From a film student standpoint, i think this film started out as a 10 min short. and became too influenced by investors and friends. As far as character development, it IS possible to take that many characters and develop in depth story lines about them, look at snatch for example. Its not so much that there were too many high profile characters, but rather that they were wasting their screen time with poor writing. Which i blame for the excessive use of colorful language. Actors suck at improv, and when told to do so, they just toss in curse words, when curse words are written into the story and the character, they can come across as great, look at Samuel Jackson. I think the director or writer, or both, really loved geocaching, and wanted to incorporate it into this obscure awkward comedy, even though the movie really has nothing to do with geocaching, it just so happens its one of the quirky things the main actress enjoys doing, which leads me to believe the above, also by incorporating in geocaching the producers knew it would sell the movie at least to the geocaching community which has been paying dues, and fees, and all sorts of stuff to Groundspeak for how long now? 10 years? so theres a huge investor, and it worked. we all watched it one way or another, and most of us paid for it. all in all the movie wasnt terrible, it had great potential, i just think a lot the language was unnessicary, and distracting, the characters were largely undeveloped, and the situations they were dumped into were so sporadic it took too long to figure out where the movie was taking the audiance, and people just do not have the patience to sit that long through it. lets make a better movie about geocaching.
  17. youre all probably right, its not really advertising, the page doesn't exactly list the name of the store, perhaps its not the owner, or manager of the store trying to bring in more business through geocaching (what a silly thing to do in the first place, since people picking up these easy png smileys are typically out for the numbers, or just dropping by to and from work, and not necessarily interested in going inside the store. the op was about how I have found a ton of these png type caches, which are always micros out in front of chain businesses, sometimes i can tell if the person is just hiding these for the number hunters, because they hide a bunch of them at all sort of businesses around town, idk this one just struck me as lame, and advertizing, it was a gut feeling, i didnt look into where else this person had hid other caches if they had even hid them i suppose i should have done it, i was just angry at yet another shrub grubber, right in front of a chain business. and upset that a good number of regular sized caches ive been finding lately have been home to a bunch of peoples business cards, leaflets, and menus for their business. which is to me blatant advertising, and what i thought was against the rules which state something along the lines of no cache is allowed to be advertising for your business, i figured that extended to swag, i guess it doesn't.
  18. I see nothing wrong with the cache listing. I see quite a lot wrong with the attitude and wording of your post and have once again asked a Moderator to remind you of proper forum etiquette. thanks... im not sure what in my post was offensive. but i appreciate the concern for the children who frequent this forum. who im sure hear far worse on their bus ride to and from school.
  19. has anyone else been finding peoples business cards, brochures, and just plain blatant advertising in caches? what do you do with this <potty language removed>? im going to start taking it out and throwing it away. caches are not billboards. what do you do about caches that are obviously advertising a business. Not a unique store, but a chain, and im not talking about a silly lps, but rather the entire cache page is dedicated to the store, heres my latest example. GC10EE3 its located just outside the door to the local west marine chain boating store. its a micro, so the whole point of this cache was to bring people to this store. Which the owner of the cache may very well be the manager or some <potty language removed> of this store.
  20. yeah this one i went to blatantly stated they would be watching us, it made me feel a bit uneasy, but we played it up nicely, and waved, even though we couldnt see in. GCGD9F
  21. i leave all kinds of random stuff i found while dumpser diving, its getting recycled, its clean, its all unique, and best of all its free
  22. so ive figured out if i use geohunter which is an acceptable thrid party app for the droid to hunt geocaches, i can do pocket quiries without a premium membership. and hunt for caches on the fly, [content removed by moderator], but eh, its still free, and it still gets the job done, i think ill go out and find some more tonight now and see how this new toy works... in order to use geohunter, with live feeds, (sort of) you need geo finder as well, which is a $2 application. there is a map, which is kind of a pain, the caches are paw icons, and you have to hide your finds, but in order to hide them you have to apparently re-log-find each of them good thing ive only got 56 right now, but eh, once i re'find them in my feild notes, they are gone off the map, ide rather have smilieys but as long as i can see the ones i havent found yet im a happy camper. [content removed by moderator]
  23. even a premium membership cant get rid of people leaving their buisness cards in caches, what do you do about that advertising?
  24. im venting, im not expecting sympathy, but the violin was nice. so.... for those of you without smartphones, and without a printer, how do you plan your route for the day?
  25. oh boy heres the dreaded stealing argument again. I was using a tool to see the caches ive found and not found on the fly, that just so happened to be free, since the game is free and open to the public, it was the simplest, fastest, and most convenient way to play the game. Besides eating a tiny bit more bandwith, the only thing i was stealing from Groundspeak was the ability to play the game without their ads all over the place.
