  1. Often I find that the terrain rating is much higher than listed. Often I find that the terrain rating was correct if I had taken the prescribed way in. If you’re concerned about the terrain, e-mail the cache owner and ask them if it would be appropriate for the ability of the people going along on the hunt.
  2. Conversion Software LORAN C to Lat Long
  3. LORAN_C Here's a link that may help. Good luck.
  4. Travel bugs are not trade items. Take them if you can help their mission if they have one, or to move them along if they don’t. You’ll quickly notice the things that people put in for trade that you tend not to see a lot of. Those are the things that people want. (foreign coins, mini carabineers) The “geo-junk” are the leftovers that tend to stay there. That being said, ALWAYS trade up. Leave something better than you took. In general if it’s something you like, it will be a good trade item. Any item that will be damaged by water, humidity, heat etc… is not the best (although you see a lot of that stuff). For the most part, I tend not to trade, but often leave stuff for others anyway. Welcome to the obsession.
  5. Let me know if you order any more. Thanks,
  6. It's been several days. All I have to go on is the id number etched into the tag, there is no other name on it. How do I put a name to it with only the number on the tag itself?
  7. Travel Bug Questions I found a travel bug that wasn’t logged into the cache and doesn’t have a name. What’s the best way to identify it so I can log it and put it back into circulation? All I have to go on is the 6 digit number on the tag. I have a travel bug that wants to travel and see the world. I have a friend going to Paris over the 4th of July weekend and is willing to take it along and take pictures. Since I’m not going, is it ok to log the bug into a French cache and then back out so it picks up the mileage even though that cache isn’t actually going to be found? Most of the time I don’t trade, but I do pick up travel bugs. If I log it T-TB LNSL, it sounds like I’m taking something but leaving nothing. Logging TNLNSL Took TB doesn’t sound right either. What’s the correct way to log it?
  8. My mommy moo cow go wee wee in the banana patch. You may need the super secret decoder ring for this one Welcome to the sport.
  9. Sent 44.50 for 10 geocoins via paypal Thanks,
  10. I have both the Direct Route and the Topo 3D. I agree with the other posters, if you already have the Tom Tom, the Direct Route is redundant. I’ve used the Topo 3D twice (switched in the field), once to see it I was on the right side of the gorge, and the second time to figure out if it was better to go over the ridge or around it. Bottom line, nice to have, but not critical in the area where I live. If the cost isn’t an issue, go for it, otherwise wait and see if you really need it.
  11. Thanks for all the information on the PSP charger. I just bought one at Mallwart for $7 but was a little concerned about using it. My E500 runs out of juice at about 10 hours.
  12. No problems with my Explorist 500 so far. I've dropped it in the mud and on the rocks. Took a lickin' and keeps on tickin' Is it supposed to tick
  13. With all the shameless plugs, I must go check out the page if not the cache. Maybe I’ll add it to my watch list too
  14. I was wondering if you'd get a different icon for the 05. I see that you do. Now where do I get mine
  15. I only have Trips and Streets but find it to be accurate when I upload the lat/longs.
  16. I don't mind, but I don't react too much to it. Still don't know for sure what it looks like in the field.
  17. How about all of the soft goods & paper stuff that is trashed by a soaked cache. Is it ok to clean it out and leave the good stuff. I run across too many of these to "trade" all the junk out. Often the logs show that the cache has been in this condition for some time.....is there a way to enforce cache maintenance?
  18. I just got a Palm M505 on e-bay and it's easy to read if I take the sunglasses off. But the sunglasses are perscription
  19. DaveA’s right, if you do a search in the forums for Garmin and for Explorist you find tons of information on both units and the pros and cons of each.
  20. Is there a way to load an area that is anything but a single rectangle?
  21. Yesterday I turned on my E500 on at 8am and it died at 6:30 pm. 10.5 hours of continuous use. I suspect the sort battery life was due to the backlight as it was a bright sunny day.
  22. That's a good analogy. Clever hides vs. Frustrating ones. There is difference between the two, and typically you realize it when you find it. Clever ones make me think, while frustrating ones make me... well... frustrated!! I like the ones that are hidden in plain sight but are still hard to find. This is one of my favorites.
