  1. Did you ever get your com port back? I finally called IOGear support, got an RMA number and sent our adaptor back to them. Their replacement just arrived, I plugged it in and success! No more error #10. It seems what happened is the original adaptor fried the first time out. I'm sure I topped your 18 hours of driver loading, deleting, reconfiguring, etc, all for a bum adaptor. Thanks to IOGear for the replacement! Plug and play and we're much happier now!
  2. We've just completed a trip using a notebook computer and Garmin's GPS 18 with City Navigator 6 and n-route software. We bought the package for $149 Can. It was very impressive in giving clear voice prompts and in automatically re-creating the best route after we would deliberately miss a turn. Highly recommended(though I guess we forfeit the points for a unit that works for geocaching!).
  3. I broke my ankle the end of June and had to learn a whole new way of caching. It cut way back on our caching. While I had the cast on we looked for caches on nice level ground. Even managed had few while using crutches. That was abit of a sight. Fortunately I cache with my husband as I quite often couldn't do the last few meters and was able to direct him with the crutch. It also came in handy for those dark places you don't want to stcik your hand. Cast came off a few days ago and now I just have a small ankle air cast that lets me do inclines so caches higher than a 1.5 here I come. Hope your toe is happier soon.
  4. I'm struggling with the same thing right now, using an IOGear adaptor. I've written to their tech support for help, but I don't expect an answer til next week. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, but no luck. I'm hoping somebody out there has some ideas.
  5. Are you referring to a Rino 120? Is there a software upgrade for this?
  6. You can download waypoints, routes, tracks, etc or do an export/import from GSAK, for example. Mapsource seems to use a proprietary database format, so all waypoints, tracks, etc are stored in a single file per download. Shops like GPS Central are pretty good at giving a demonstration of the software.
  7. The Garmin Mapsource PC program is vector-based, whereas Ozi works off a fixed-size graphic. So zooming in with Mapsource adds detail, but doesn't result in pixelation. It's like Streets and Trips in that regard, with added waypoint management functionality. You can get a demo of Mapsource on the Garmin site. Zooming in with Ozi just magnifies the existing graphic. We have Garmin Canada Metroguide V4, and expect the new topo to be similar in function. I would expect the topo of all Canada in 1:50k would require several hundreds of megs memory, and that I'll only be able to download the equivalent of 10 to 1000 square miles to my Rino at any one time.
  8. We've got this date in our calendar; we'll be there!
  9. redgreen, you must shop at the same crappy tire store that we go to. Actually, we've been to many of them, and found the service to be pretty consistently crappy. If only Capital Iron would come to Vancouver.
  10. I import waypoints the same way in both MapPoint and S & T: 1. First, I open the waypoint file (from a Pocket Query or other download) in ExpertGPS, 2. Then, export the waypoints from ExpertGPS into a csv format file, 3. Use the Data import wizard in the Data menu of MapPoint or S & T. After importing, you can check the Balloon check-box in the Data Set Properties to get the URL to hyperlink you to the Geocaching web page.
  11. I use both; their ability to show maps, look up addresses and view waypoint pushpins seems to be identical. If you don't need the demographic data management capabilities, Mappoint seems like overkill.
  12. We saw this guy while out last spring. He was so not interested in us we just gave him a wide berth and went on our way.
  13. This one tows its own cache carrier
  14. We just purchased a cable for our new Geko from them, and paid no tax or duty. Seems that shipping via US Postal Service (USPS) is best for that. Shipping via courier often attracts duty and other border charges. By the way, we ordered on Jan 2 and received today. Excellent service, and shipping was only $4.95 US. We recommend them.
  15. Cool! We're looking forward to getting some caching goodies at our favorite gear store when we're home for Christmas.
  16. This is one sweet program. We use OziExplorer a lot, and really like this integration. Well done, and thank you!
  17. I think this is our record so far. Travelled from B.C. to Reno and did 32 caches on the weekend. And only one no find, which it turned out they archived between printing the sheet and us looking for it. Don't you hate when that happens. A very good weekend indeed.
  18. Check out Oziexplorer. It does everything you describe and more. We've been using it for a couple years and are very satisfied with it.
  19. SP, its unique; a smaller version of their older round connector.
  20. quote: My feelings, carry 2 nites worth, you may never need the stuff, but you might happen across another who will, then share. bigdaveoh, were you replying to the grow-op post?
  21. Our Rino's are the ultimate caching equipment, although we don't use channel 2. Our goal is to find the cache, to warn each other of muggles and if we get separated, to find each other again. We did use FRS radios before the Rino's arrived, but separate devices can get pretty cumbersome. If you're a caching couple, radios are just about a must.
  22. How else will I recharge my 'lectric shave? The person below me thinks "rays or wire?" is a choice between a cell phone and a land line.
