  1. One of our caches we like has gone missing a bunch of times over the years. It is kind of a pain to go maintain as you have to go threw a pay gate. (We know a code word to get in for free) Still that is one problem and then it has to be a really low tide to reach GZ and mostly can only be done during the day. We have out a sister cache that has to be found at a extreme High tide as well so we were hoping to keep it going.

I'm not sure if it goes missing because of a high tide hitting it and it gets washed away or if the many fisherman that fish on the rock end up finding it. This is not the ocean but the bay so I don't think waves crash over it to much and think the top is out of the high tide range. Just wondering if anyone had out a successful hide like it or has found some and could offer some advice. It started off with a water bottle preform in the cracks covered in rocks. Then I took out a rock with a blinkie drilled in it. And have had several other containers added in the cracks at the top covered with rock geopiles.

Here are some pic of GZ.

A pelican container is awesome for this kind of place. It is slightly expensive, but is waterproof, and extremely durable to impact from the tide.

  2. With our high season about to begin here, all the caches should be coming out in swarms.

I'd just like to take the opportunity to thank all the volunteer reviewers for all of their hard work and dedication in making our hobby a safe and successful adventure. We all benefit from all the caches you have to review, and who only knows how many google maps you must browse, and all of the provincial/municipal restrictions to filter... Needless to say, I think I can speak for most of the cachers when I say thanks for making it all happen!

I for one am looking forward to a full summer of caching, I might book off an extra week of work just to enjoy the weather finding caches!

    Cheers

  3. Hi all,

not sure if this is right place or whether this has been discussed before so please forgive and ignore if so.

A feature i'd really like to see in the GS mobile app would be an actual direction pointer instead of just a blue dot showing where i am.

I used to use C:Geo before and this was a great feature that allowed you to very quickly orient yourself and get on the trail to the cache.

c:geo has been mostly fixed now. some small limitations compared to the previous version but its back on track and still beats out GC's version by far (sorry guys I love geocaching and your site but they make a quality product and your mobile app is far behind!)

  4. I'm wondering if it would be possible to add the cache owner name in the notification e-mail somewhere?

Sometimes it is nice to see if the cache is from a local pro, or a total noobie.

I realize its easy to open the gc app, but as a busy professional with lots of e-mails in my box, sometimes it is just nice to see who its from with all the details and not have to take an extra step. :D

    Cheers

  5.

Lol, I don't mind keeping an embarrassing thread up. However I can't prove or disprove the amount charged to me as my card provider doesn't have those statements available online.

I am certain I wouldn't have paid if it was $30.

    :D

your credit card company may not have statements online but the internets has archives

don't be so certain, here's proof that its been $30/year even before you signed up :P

Hmm, cool t4e: I wasn't aware you could access data that far back from archives!

So I suppose I owe Groundspeak an apology. Sorry guys!

    :)

    Anyways life goes on.

I'd still like to know how I ended up with premium if the number I saw was $30 then. Perhaps I drunkenly mistook $30 for $10 last year ;)

  6. Hmm, I swear it was $10. I'm going to review my Card. If I'm mistaken I will humbly apologize and delete this thread ;)

    But will you renew?

They took away the ability to delete threads years ago. Maybe you could storm off because of that?

That is a myth. Mods do delete threads. But generally it's been commercial promotions, not embarrassing ones.

  7. I would like to know how, in the course of 1 year - Groundspeak can justify raising their yearly membership cost from $10 to $30.

As a Geocaching fanatic, I consider $10 to be a respective amount that is deserved for the entertainment value, and I would gladly pay said amount every year.

There has been no noticeable increase in service, or performance other than some minor changes in the mapping integration with Google Maps since the past year in which I have been a member. The Android based application provided by Groundspeak is lacking in a number of areas (Which is also an additional $10) So I know that isn't a valid reason.

So, while I enjoy the odd FTF challenge, 2 days from now, I will remain a basic member. I am by no means poor, but I know the value of my dollar. Please tell me Groundspeak - What is your justification for a 3x increase in yearly membership costs? I know I'm not alone here, now you just lost my membership.

    Regrets and Regards,

    David

As you are the only person I've ever heard of who has paid $10 for a year membership, I'd say yes, you are alone here.
