  1. I've got an android and my wife has the iphone. We both are using the official Groundspeak app. I love the android for a lot of reasons and would recommend without reservation. Having said that the iphone version of the offical app is bit more polished. Both phones seem about the same regarding accuracy
  2. I like the idea of starting out with a bunch of similar items and giving a prize to whoever takes the last theme item. I created a cache called Alien Invasion and it was filled with big headed aliens (about 20), we then asked visitors to the cache to help stop the invasion, when I got a log message that the cache no longer had aliens I sent that user a geocoin.
  3. I'm going to be visiting Watkins Glen and was hoping someone familiar with the area could recommend some activities (geocaching or otherwise). Thanks in advance.
  4. The only advice I can offer is try to see some of the other keys. Personally I liked little pine key.
  5. I've got the MyTouch and it works really well for geocaching. geobeagle is really good but you need to download the waypoints file to your mytouch then import them into geobeagle. You can also use [reference to unauthorized application removed by moderator] although I think that app might break the Groundspeak TOS
  6. I'm using linux and would appreciate a subforum
  7. I'm just over the border in Queens
  8. My 5 year old and 9 year old go caching with me so maybe I'm bias but I always think "leave something that a kid would like finding", usually that thing (whatever it is) will also be enjoyed by adults. I'm not sure a used shotgun shell would fit the bill (but I've been proven wrong about this things).
  9. Smegal http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=1992754 and Gollum http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?id=1992726
  10. http://arduiniana.org/projects/the-reverse-geo-cache-puzzle/ Very interesting idea
  11. It's very easy for some people to be negative, Ignore it, or contact this person and offer him/her a full refund
  12. So the wormholes I've been seeing all over queens aren't flashbacks from my misspent youth?
  13. Thanks for the links. I figured I couldn't be the first one to think of something like this. I'm glad someone is keeping track of these things I imagine years from now these records might have some historical value.
  14. Has anyone tried organizing pictures of coins made by individuals? By this I mean not just designed but also made (using a home foundry, CNC machine, casting, etc) Just wondering if their would be any interest in this topic.
  15. I haven't tried just regular paint, so I can't say for sure. I rough them up with light grit sandpaper then give an initial coat of Krylon Fusion For Plastic. Once that dries, I apply olive, then black, brown and khaki through a stencil, for a camo look. The Fusion seems to act as a good primer, as the finished product doesn't chip or flake. I've had really good experiences using http://www.rustoleum.com/CBGProduct.asp?pid=373 on plastic.
  16. I'm in Queens, New York and have a cache, alien invasion (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=d20d3a09-8b6d-4339-824d-ae3775d9972b) only a few blocks from my house. If you can't get anyone in Canada to do this I'd be willing to give it a try. Personally, I think sending items every month might be a little more manageable. Also if anyone else thinks this would be an interesting idea and would like to setup a wormhole partnership please let me know.
  17. I just got my mytouch two weeks ago and it's got a pretty good built in gps. So far I've been really happy with mine.
  18. as much as I dislike the way they look I usually wear cargo pants, the pockets are filled with swag on the way in and rocks on the way out (thanks to my kids).
  19. I have the Vista HCx, and love it. The compass is more useful then I thought it would be.
  20. I've got the legend HCx and I can download caches from the site or modify them using easygps then upload them.
  21. I've tried to have a theme to all my caches some are stretching the concept of theme but here they are Alien Invasion I'm giving away a prize to the person who took the last green alien, thus ending the invasion, read more about it here http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php...=231478&hl= Mostly Army Men Started out with Army Men plus a few odds and ends that we felt like adding. When the army men are gone I think we're going to donate money to Toys for Tots or the USO based on the date the last army man is taken (I may have to rethink this if it happens on a big number). Station to station Is by a railway station (it's also the name of a David Bowie album and was going to be part of a David Bowie themed multi-cache but I haven't had time to work on it yet).
  22. Geocaching member oshf was the lucky winner. She was really nice, thanked me for the coin and even OKed me writing about it here and on my blog. I'm waiting to receive the coin but once I do it's going out in the mail the same day.
