  1. quote: What do you expect when you have 45% of registered voters being democrats Hey! I resemble that remark! I also use and love my Macintosh. Us democrats might be a bit over protective, but at least we don't trust corporations to run everything! BTW. Did you know the tangerine colored iMac actually tastes like tangerine. The beige PCs taste like beige too, though. "I thought you said this was a quick find!" - My wife
  2. I've placed several geocaches using these containers (they make excellent cache containers btw) and I always list them as "Other". In the cache description, I give the size of it so people know about what size container to look for. "I thought you said this was a quick find!" - My wife

  6. I haven't tried GPSPro, but I know you can get Virtual PC and use Easy GPS to download and manage the waypoints. I think the same company that sell GPSPro makes some cables to work with the Mac also. "I thought you said this was a quick find!" - My wife

  9. Try to think outside the tupperware. Most of the really creative caches I've found are not the typical tupperware/some other plastic container in a bush/under a rock. The really good ones have an element of creativity to the container. You're down in San Diego, so take a day and drive up to Orange County. Some really creative ones I've found up there are… Duffer Cache Otis Pug 302 - Art of Otis Pug II Silverado #1 Otis Pug 320 - Camflage With Native Materials Otis Pug 310 - Urban Caching Check those out if you get a chance. They are all good examples of hiding caches in fairly urbanized and heavily trafficked areas. I've found the key to a good hide is to really spend some time on the hide and not just chuck it in the nearest bush. Hope this helps! "I thought you said this was a quick find!" - My wife
  10. I've got to agree with Ranger Roger on this one. While I completely understand and sympathize with the argument that they are "our" lands, as was pointed out, the reality is, that they may be ours, but not ours to do whatever we want with them. The reality is, the rules that are made are done so, because without them, there would be nothing left to enjoy out there. Here's an example... If you go to the Angeles National Forest near Los Angeles, you will be greeted by hundreds of rocks and boulders with graffiti on them, not only along the road, but even on the trails and in the back country. You and I don't go into the forest to spray paint unintelligible garbage on the rocks, but some people do. The social trail that I make down a steep hillside will be erased in a couple of months, but multiply that by a dozen, a hundred, etc... and pretty soon there are hillsides that look like strip mining is taking place. Without all the dadgum rules, there would be no recourse against the people that do go out there and muck it up for the rest of us. I don't like it, but that's just the way it is. As stated by Laraley, there are also officials that take this way too far. Its ridiculous that you can't go off a trail in the desert! And its hypocritical for the government to build roads and buildings all over sensitive land (don't even get me starting on oil drilling!). Anyway, the point of all of this is, we can cry and moan about how the government controls our land, but Ranger Roger's point is still valid. If we don't take seriously, the impact that we and our sport have on the land, we will quickly find ourselves relegated to smaller and smaller bits of it. I have not placed caches in areas I would have liked to because I thought it would cause too much damage. All Roger is saying is that like it or not, we'd better be a little more careful in the future. "I thought you said this was a quick find!" - My wife

  12. I had to return to a cache location because there was a homeless person sleeping just a few feet from the cache. I feel the same way about plundered caches. I've been to 3 or 4 locations, some that were a real pain to get to, only to find that the cache was gone or just parts of it remain. I think unless you retrieve the cache and sign the log, its a no find, no matter what the circumstances. But those are just the rules I play by. Everyone gets to make up their own. 14. At the risk of flamming the "CD's in Caches" fire again and without getting into the argument of who makes too much money or who is morally bankrupt, I think putting together a CD of music that you enjoy and think someone else might enjoy is harmless enough. We're not talking about mass producing pirated music and selling it here. As far as lighters go... I have placed several lighters into caches, but they are always of the Zippo type, brand new, semi-collectable and do not have, nor have they ever had fluid in them. Disposable lighters, especially used ones, are questionable just for their trade value. I think the FAQ is pretty clear about what is OK and what is not. 16. I'll vouch for cheaperthandirt.com too. I placed an order with them a couple of weeks ago and got the cans in just a few days. They are in great shape and were pretty cheap too. Rangersurplus.com is good too. Got some little decon canisters from them for under 2 bucks each. "I thought you said this was a quick find!" - My wife
  17. In Orange County, CA, OtisPug is the undisputed king with 44 active caches right now. The vast majority are high quality caches, and lately he/she has been getting very creative with the hiding spots. To have your cache referred to as in the vein of OtisPug is a very high compliment 'round these parts. "I thought you said this was a quick find!" - My wife

  19. I personally could care less about MOC's. I think they are probably not such a hot idea, just because of the furor they have caused. I gave my $30 bucks because I love geocaching and this is the way Jeremy has decided he has to go to keep it up and running. I will probably never place a MO cache, but for those that will, fine. The sport is big enough for all of us. My 2¢. "They should call it geo-lost-again." - My wife
  20. Looks like all the info there is correct. As far as hours go, I vote for earlier than later, say... 10:30 or 11:00.
  21. Went geocaching at the top of Cajon Pass in a pounding rainstorm back in January. It was about 9 pm in the pitch black on unmaintained dirt roads. I got absolutely soaked, the SUV nearly slid off a hill in the mud that was like sludge, and I had one tiny flashlight. So of course I had a great time. Anything to add to the adventure.
