  1. I got the Premium membership at first because I wanted to be able to find and log all of the premium member caches.

Now I use the bookmarks and the pocket quieries so often, I don't know how I'd cache without them.

another silly question coming up, what is a pocket quiery? I keep seeing it and I think it on the iphone app?

    thanks for the reply

Can I suggest going to some family friendly events to meet some local cachers.

I met another mum at a local picnic event a couple of years ago and now we regularly go caching together when the children are at school. We've even been known to take the children with us sometimes!

    Hi Sandra

Thanks for the reply, I know there is a camping event soon but we are already busy that weekend, then there is an evening meet at end of Sept which I am hoping to attend. other than that I dont know of any events in my local area, or where to find such things :D

I have taken my children with me to every cache I have found so far, they love it.

Be nice to carry it on when they at school tho

depending upon where in kent you are, the South East is fairly well-off for events! Kent, Surrey and Sussex all have monthly meets, there is a camping event coming up which you know about, and there MAY be some events on 10/10/10 (just cos we can!). Finally, for the real loonies, there is a possible camping event in Sussex over the new year weekend - bring the thermals! :D

A search for events on GC.com should bring up some close(ish) to home!

oohh thanks, didn't know there was another forum for GB :) I am based in Rochester in Kent, the camping one would of been good, not had the tent out this year but as said already got plans, hey ho...really hope to attend the one end of sept tho :)

Off to Capstone today to try to find 2 caches there - wish me luck lol

  3. Hi

I have an iphone 3GS but I use along side it a garmin geko 201. I find the iphone app is way out at times on distance. The battery runs down much too quickly, if I want to be out all day. The Geko now I have worked it out is very accurate and simple :)) Not sure about it showing caches as have only had it just over a week, so am just doing it via way points at the moment

Thanks so much for the info

  6. Hellooooo

I am a bit new to this too, have already asked a couple of questions in other areas of the forum, but most of it seems to be aimed at the USA so thought would come down right to the bottom to the UK page

I have found a few most whilst out with friends, have 2 fellow cachers who have shown me the ropes and have also introduced a couple of friends to it too

Now the kids go back to school all of them by next monday, and tho I have a four legged friend who is a fab cacher, I am a bit nervous going out on my own into the countryside. I get full of "what ifs?" which I know is silly but it really puts a cloud over what I am doing.

  7. Hi

am really enjoying geocaching, it is good exercise for the kids, dog and me, and also it is good for teaching the children about respecting our countryside etc, I have been looking at the Premium Membership, but before I go ahead one of the aspects which really excites me is the route part, where you put in your route and it tells you the caches along the way. Now I am in good ole UK, does this feature also work here? or is it just for the USA? (have been caught out with something similar before where I paid for a Premium membership, then discovered it didnt actually work in the UK  )

I planted my first cache today and am really excited about it going live

    Thanks in advance

  8. I used a Geko for the first 300 or so caches I found. You can enter them by hand by creating a waypoint, I my memory serves me, you use the mark button. Then edit it. You can send caches via the computer but you need a cable not supplied and either a serial port or an serial emulator. I doubt that the Garmin pllug in will work but I'm not sure. I think I used GSak to transfer them but easy gps would work too.

Thank you so much for all the help, I have worked it out!!!!!! Have found 3 today using it! Much better, thanks guys xx

  9. Here's a link to the owners manual for that device it in case you don't have one. It covers all aspects of the Geko.

It's best you read it cover-to-cover not just the spot describing coordinate entry. Good luck & if you have more questions, ask away :(

    Hi

I got the owners manual and have read it, but I just dont get it :) I think maybe I need to read it without any distractions at all. I am usually really good with manuals and the like, but I am just not figuring this one out

    Thank you for the reply

  10. Hi

quite new to geocaching, was using my iphone 3GS but found the battery dies down way too quickly, so I bought a little Garmin geko 201, which is really quite small, BUT I just cannot work out how to put in the co-ordinates to lead me to cache.

What I wanted to do was use it with my iphone, ie save the caches I want to find on the iphone so I have the co-ordinates then input the co-ordinates into the Geko and let the geko lead...BUT I just cannot work out how to do it...

Please can someone help? a basic idiot guide is what I need please

    many thanks

    Jane
