  1. Problem with pencils getting wet? I remove the pencils/pen from the baggies when I find them as they rip the bag. The biggest fix yet is, use a water tight container and you don't need to worry about the bag. I will expand for those hard of comprehending. We use the bag to hold the items for the log. It is not used to waterproof said items. The cache container is used to waterproof said items. We purposely poke holes in the bag so water deos not condense in bag to wet said items. Removing the pencil is redundant and would meet with our disaproval. For those who did not read the OP and slept through early years of grade school, condensation is a process by which vapor or gas is converted into liquid. By not sealing the bag properly or intentionally introducing liquids into the bag by negating any protective properties by poking holes in it, combined with containers less than waterproof, are why the bags and contents are not lasting. Not to mention the pencils slip out anyway. Since placing sharp objects in the bag cause tears and rips, removing pens or pencils is accepted as precautionary and meets with approval. . Redundancy comes into play when using a container inside of a waterproof container to hold things. Your are determined. Holding things together thereby not having to rummage about in the bottom of the container would be considered a service in my neck of the woods. I am glad you have worked out condensation. A little bit more grade six research would give you a clue as to the holes in the bag. The fact that our cache containers are waterproof (mentioned twice by me above) may also lend you some clues. Since our bags are not meant to be watertight removing the items does not meet with our approval. We are agreed on a couple of things. Why the argument from you when you clearly did not either read or comprehend my first post.

  3. We use ziplock bags to hold the paper log, pencil and sharpener. Most times we puncture the bag first so moisture does not condensate in the bag. The container is the bit that is supposed to keep the contents dry.
  4. When you think about it the trade up trade even never works. If you do trade you normally leave something you don't want and take something you do want. So the value equation gets messed up from the start. The only hope you have is that the next person wants/values what you didn't more than you. Over time the cache must fill with what most people don't want. ie trash. I don't cache for swag. My son does occasionally and his value equation is well out of whack with mine. He loves plastic soldiers and golf balls. We did pick up a bit of swag once. It was the plastic clip thingy that holds a tupperware pastry sheet when rolled up. We had lost ours and there was one in a cache. Best swag we remember. Probably meant nothing to 90% of all the other cachers.
  5. My bet is it will not be allowed. But should be. It is the game. I am lucky that I have an alternative viable listing site. These type caches are maintained by the community. It is a much smaller community of cachers. Maybe we are more respectful. A good container. In a protected spot will outlast any urban nano/micro. A pity a corporation will make the decision for you.
  6. Well, if someone is claiming to have Jeremy on record as saying he IS going to bring them back, then first, I would like to see a link and second, I would have to see it dated AFTER the one stating he ISN'T bringing them back. There is a video on the website called Geocaching.com founders. At 1.50 Elias says "We have some ideas around making geocaching a little more virtual, a little more social" Does this count. No. Earthcaches make geocaching a little more virtual. Events make geocaching a little more social. But neither one is a virtual geocache. Neither is a geocache either

  8. If you have been aproached by a muggle asking what you are doing then you have failed as a geocacher and you should hand in your cards and delete your account.
  9. Ours was the first one in Australia I believe. May actually still be the only one as far as I know.
  10. Thanks for the responses from both sidaway and AZRoses. The story you tell here is different from the story on the cache page. I would now suggest the disabling comment be changed to the reasons given in the forum ie disabled due to a need for maintenance. Secondly for AZRoses to change the note to say you thought the way Highpointer handled the situation was wrong where you and sidaway would have both been amenable to a reasoned request. I would also add your thoughts on diabetes and TB's to the cache description when you get rid of the trading rule. That will get you and your daughter more responses from the gecaching community. Pretty much all as you say in the forum but without the emotion. Once all that has happened the alleged actions of Highpointer and whether all those actions were called for can be dealt with an a more reasoned light. Good Luck . Best Wishes
  11. If you look at the cache page in question, you will see that the cache owner started the TB hotel with 2 bugs. July 24 by sidaway (180 found) Dropped 2 TBs to start cache. AZRoses dropped a bunch of TB's... AZRoses (152 found) Wow what a great hide had me walking all over the place. Thank you to the Misses for the help. TFTC SL Dropped a bunch of bugs and coins. Yes I did look at that. AZRoses state they are also involved in setting up the cache as per note posted August 6
  12. I read the cache page and agree with Highpointer on their actions. The cache placers on the other hand regarding their notes on the cache page leave a lot to be desired. They did not set up a hotel with just one or two caches but 16. They put on a rule expecting a 1 for 1 replacement thus wanting a total of 16 bugs or coins to remain. They disabled the cache until they steal more bugs and coins and trap them in this cache. They use comments like “do the right thing and bring OUR bugs back” . They then stoop to really low levels and mention a little girl with diabetes as and excuse for their actions. They use words like Geocache police yet are making themselves TB police. If you want to do the right thing then activate the cache bugless. Remove the trading rule from the cache page. Allow the geocaching community decide whether the cache is really a TB hotel. Recognise that all Geocachers are “Official Cache Police” and see what happens. Finally take the poor girl with diabetes aside and apologise for your own actions in making her cry.
  13. Well it looks like the fairy has revisited the land down under. Only on the West coast so far. Might have been a bit of mistake to visit here first though as once you see the West the Eastern States do run a poor second best
  14. On a side note. Cold feet in a bag is normally caused by losing heat via the head. Wear a beanie or use the hood to warm the head and the body should not remove heat from the extremeties.
  15. I would wait until I am ready to drop the bug. If you haven't logged it by then I will grab and drop. If I move the bug in 1 day that would be 1 day. If it is a week it would be a week.
  16. Sounds to me you don't have your shoulder straps quite right. The length of the backframe should take the anchor point of the shoulder strap above the line of your shoulder. So lengthen the frame to the longest length. Put on your pack(with weight) with shoulders loosened. Tighten your waist belt so the weight is all on your hips. Stand side on to a mirror and see if your shoulder straps anchor is above your shoulder line. If so adjust them down to the very top of the shoulder line and then tighten the straps bringing the pack into your back. If the anchor point of your shoulder straps cannot adjust above your shoulder line then get a longer frame. The shoulder straps are mainly used to pull the weight in not hold up. On about a 15 kilo(30 lb) pack weight the shoulders should only take a maximum of about 3 lb of the total weight and that mainly when you lean forward ie on hills. Lastly. On known pressure points there is an open non weave tape used for blister control that you can tape across the pressure areas. Apply before you wear the skin through. The best way to find these is to walk for a short distance. Stop and take off pack and shirt. Any red areas are then taped. I haven't got the brand of the tape but I don't know whether an Australian brand name would help. The tape should also be applied to feet. Works a dream. On longer hikes I have applied tape and its lasted 4-5 days. I found the tape. Here in Australia it is Elastoplast Sport Elastowrap. It comes in 10 metre rolls. The blurb says "Made from stretchable non-woven fabric with a hypoallergenic adhesive (This construction allows for the evaporation of perspiration). Use as an underwrap for regular taping of sensitive skin. Use prior to knee and shoulder taping. Treatment of minor burns and to help prevent blisters" The company is owned by Johnson and Johnson so I asume it should be available anywhere. Edited to add brand
  17. Don't know how to do everything. This was a quote from a thread about Pathtags
  18. Yup...this happens when the sun gets hotter, which there is much evidence of that, with Mars being a great example. Come on you pair. Mars atmosphere is less than 1% in volume than that of earth. However it warms the planet about 5 degress Celsius. Consisting of 98% CO2 would prove that CO2 is a greenhouse gas. Why don't you use Venus. Oh thats right. Its atmosphere is 98% CO2 and is about 10% of the volume of Earth and warms the planet to about 487 degrees Celsius. If you are going to try and debunk the populations effect on Global warming use better arguments and not some kindergarten science facts.
  19. Sorry to add to an Off topic post but I couldn't let this one go. There is a lie, sprinkled with truths used in misleading context to make a false assumption. Wake up.
  20. I think the mistake with cache and forte is that people get confused when the french put a grave aboe the e's they wish to accent. As the US (101)keyboard cannot put the grave over the e a lot of people then assume all french words ending in e are accented. However in the case of cache and forte both from french origins the e is not graved and thus silent. forte (fortay) is also a word but from italian origin that refers to music. As it gets used as (fortay) in music people do think they are one and the same. Forte (fortay) means loud or forceful, forte (fort) means something which you excel. By the way not all Australians say Kaysh. Bel + Ken are both kashers.
  21. I don't think Wal Mart Parking Lot caches are going to be the ruination of geocaching. What is actually ruining geocaching are people that join clubs, have an agenda, like to form commitees, cannot function without a clear set of rules, believe we need the official word in front of everything etc etc etc. All of this argument over implied consent and assumed consent is being based on hypotheticals, assumptions, suppositions. History so far prove this is wrong. But what if? I hear them say... Give us a break. To all you muggles that find geocaches how do you feel about the cache that is actually inside the wal mart store. Without consent. I salute the geocacher that hid it there and I salute the geocachers that find it and sign the log. Its just not listed on GC.com as will a lot of other caches in the future when all the doom sayers finally surround themselves with enough rules they feel comfortable. Maybe you should find another pastime that suits your absolute need to either be controlled or be in control. You do not have my consent either implied or explicit to do anything on my behalf. Even if you believe it is for my own good.
  22. Just so you people keep things in perspective. Wal Mart parking lot caches are not a global issue. Or any parking lot caches. Whilst the issue may be taking up a disproportionate amount of space in these forums it certainly will not affect the global game one way or the other. Explicit permission may have an affect. But again from my perspective all that does is affect the listing service not the game.
  23. Mission was recieved and package was posted on Thursday 14th at 10.30am. Sorry to the recipient in advance. It may not arrive before Christmas. Wonderful idea.
  24. I don't think I can be classed as an elite poster. You may have a well reasoned commentary but it is way to much way to late. From what I can see every geocacher has the ability to read and post in the forums. Grounspeak uses the forums to notify expected changes. The issues are open to debate at that appropriate time. It is up to you to come here for the information. Not come in here and claim to be part of the "silent majority" and demand your opinions be heard after the fact. Yes there is a lot of garbage that goes on here but as long as you keep yourself informed and decide to comment on those issues that concern you when they arise you may go some way in getting heard. From your own admission you hang out with an average cacher that does not keep themselves informed and says nothing. Getting everything they have asked for.
  25. The mimimum requirement for a geocache is a logbook. You can wander about and fondle as many containers as you want that may be called container molestation. You may be able to wander about and see as many containers as you like. That is close to another game called eye spy. If you want a smiley find a cache and write in the logbook. Thats called geocaching.
