  1. It has come to my attention that several of the "regulars" to the #geocache IRC chat room dislike my presence. ClayJar, the creator of the chat, has talked to me about this, and as such has issued a ban against my usage of the chat. I am only allowed in there during the officials, which I very rarely go to anyway. It is because of this that I will no longer use this particular, very annoying feature of Geocaching. Every time I have asked a question in there, I have met only with antagonistic remarks. The chat room is constantly full of people who would rather run someone down into the drt then answer their questions, and I would not recomend anyone who wants to keep their feelings intact go in there. Most of the ones I've found don't run untill the program runs for the first time. "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"
  3. I have a Mag315, and had to call Magellan about it a few weeks ago. Even in perfect conditions, my gps wouldn't get a sat lock. They asked me to leave the unit outside for an hour, I told them that I'd already had it out there for 2 hours. The guy I was talking to asked me if I had a data transfer cable, I said yes, and he sent me a link to a complete OS of the new 3.15 Magellan system. All I had to do was attach the cable, and run the program (with the unit turned on). Fixed everything. "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"

I guess they don't work as good as people think, huh? Thanks for that heads up TJ! + _Tae-Kwon-Leap is not a path to a door, but a road leading forever towards the horizon. _ Mopar: most adware in programs do not activate until the program is run, which I did last night for the first time. The program was supposed to be a memory manager for the computers RAM, but after running it, and realizing that all it did was randomly generate numbers, I deleted it, leaving the adware behind. 5. quote:Originally posted by cachew nut:There should be an option to turn that off. I for one never asked for this or was given an option to vote on this. I think there should be a way to turn that off too. I HATE getting an e-mail to tell me that I sent an e-mail. WTF is with that? "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"
  6. all of the programs I have are freely available online, search download.com. As for other open windows, I only run at mots 1 browser at a time, and the popup blocker I use has never failed to stop all popups. I ran a scan with AdAware (3 hard drives, took over an hour), and it turns out that a program I installed a few weeks ago had hidden adware. That's what was causing it. UMC: for a perfectly clean system, I use AdAware 6, Moosoft's TheCleaner (may no longer be available, not sure), TrojanHunter, and PopUp Stopper. I run adAware tewice a day, TrojanHunter once a day, and The Cleaner twice a day. "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"
  7. what is extremely odd is that it happened twice, and I havn't seen it since.... Very strange "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"
  8. well, if there is any spyware on my PC that Moosoft's The Cleaner, TrojanHunter, Ad-Aware 6.0, PopUp Stopper, and my built-in add suppression can get through, then it can stay there. As a computer technicial, I have a full 700mb CD full of anti-spy/ad ware software. "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"
  9. anyone else noticing the popups that are coming up on the gc.com homepage now? Jeremy: why? "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"
  10. Delia: as an amature paranormal investigator, let me first say that the legend you speak of was actually a tradition started by the womans family just after she died as an offering to God to take her into heaven. Over the years, people have missinterpreted this tradition by the family as simply random people praying to God. In fact, that IS what a lot of people do at this location, the origins of the legend are what I have posted above. As for the ghost in your pic, I see no evidence of anything else in the picture other than some tombstones, yourself, and some trees. "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"
  11. This is an idea that you can use freely. I never intend to use it. First step is to find a creepy old cemetary. Most people are scared out of their wits at cemetaries during the night. Another factor in the fear is any animals which may be lurking unseen, but heard, in the woods on the perimiter. You could use some markers (the ones that shine when light hits them) to mark the cache location, or as a hint to the cache location (place them on a tree, grave marker, fence, whatever), but if you do, make sure to cut them into two small (1") circles, and place them about the normal space of human eyes apart. That will REALLY freak people out. The sheer creepieness of a cemetary at night, our own heightened senses at night, frea of the unknown, and the eye-like markers would make for one scary adventure. If you do vecide to use this, could you please credit me on the cache page? thx. "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"
  12. I replaced a cache a few days ago, and today someone made a log aaying it should be archived because I hadn't replaced it. What should I do about this? I know that archival logs go straight to an admin. Obviously the person that posted the log didn't look at the cache page. Any suggestions will be helpful. "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"
  13. why have you posted this? What purpose does it serve? "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"
  14. This wasn't while caching, but it still kind of spooky. About a year ago I started going to graveyards, both during the day (by myself) and at night (with others). One time, during a day excursion that I had 4 other people with me, we went to the old War graves after hearing reports that there were 2 teenagers burried there that had died the night before they were to be married. We spent about an hour looking at the grave markers, with my car in plain view. When we got back in the car, it was filled with smoke (smelled like cigar smoke) and there was a strong stench of clogne and brandy. I found this weird. When I got home, I did some research and found out that one of the men buerried there was rarely seen without a brandy and a cigar, and wore a strong smelling clogne all the time. I don't remember the name now, but I went back the next day and found that this mans grave was right next to where I had the car parked. "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"
  15. The LAGC isn't all that active. I used to run the GAGA, but changed it to Gander Area Geocacher's Club, for which the new websiter will be up in a few minutes at http://gagc.homelinux.com Feel free to e-mail me via this site, or the Gagc site at any time. I'm currently iin the planning stages for an event this summer. Looks good on paper, time may be an issue. "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"
  16. It's one of those rumored UFA's! "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"
  17. try it like this : Connect the components just like that. The image is pretty self-explanatory. Sorry for poor quality, I'm not very good with making graphics. "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"
  18. don't let the snow get to you. Here in Gander, Newfoundland, we have, in places. 4 feet of snow. I may not be able to hide traditional cache, but I sure can hide micros. Try to find ways to work around the snow, like I have. "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"

    cache approval?

the hide/find count is something of a necesity around here. The next closest cache to me is a 40minute drive each way, and with 4 feet of snow down, not very accessable. As for poor cache placement, I think I know a bit about that. One cache here (used to be a multi, not anymore) had the firts 3 stages in VERY poor places. One was right in front of the door to museum, one was visible from the highway, and the other was right next to the fence of the local airport. There may not be many caches that I can get during the winter. But, the Kitiwake Geocaching Network has hidden 22 or 23 caches so far that I can get. I'm planning a trip in late May. Maybe then I can be an approver. "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"

    cache approval?

I have been wondering for a while now if I could become a cache approver for my area? That area being the province of Newfoundland and Labrador? I've been interested in this for a while, and would like to know if it is possible. "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"
  21. didn't one of the main characters (Riker I believe) make the comment "they should make Rom ulan ale illegal"? hmmmm..... I seem to remember one of the older movies having the same line after a dinner with the Klingons. "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"
  22. ... when you make a mad dash to the mall, arriving just 5 minutes before it closes, and in that ampunt of time spend only $10, but bring home 108 Cache items. "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"
  23. I'm getting a friend of mine to make me a Star Trek uniform. Imagine, if you will, a man walking around in the woods, in a Star Trek suit, carrying a GPS, FRS radio, cell phone, and wearing a back pack. run! the Romulans are coming! The Romulans are coming! "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"
  24. You plan on buying 5 computers, then selling 4 of them to buy a backpack, Leatherman multi-tool, an E-Trex Venture (to go with your Mag315), and about $50 of cache trinkets. "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"
  25. That sounds like a good idea. There are just a few problems with it. 1) every one of the caches would need to be found in order to ascertain the fact that they are indeed within a 20 minute hike 2) that would take a VERY long time to do. I'd be willing to work on the site though, along with others. "Make it idiot proof, and someone will make a better idiot"
