  1. I stayed up late lst week, and made up a few avitars. I am no artist, but what do you guys think? I would like to change the background. Maybe a compass rose, but can't come up with anything that looks good.
  2. Looks interesting. I was thinking on purchasing some but I just bought a bunch of Bison tubes. So really I should use those up before looking at buying any more micros. I noticed from your profile, you have only placed one micro cache so far.
  3. I thought the official short form of the name Canada was CDN. I have seen it everywere. For instance, the Canadian Dollar on the foreign exchange. My vote would be for CDN.
  4. I have bought a few things from GPSCentral, and have had great service. I would recommend them. I returned one item. The RAM car mount for my Garmin Rino, because it didn't suit my usage. They were very pleasant over the phone, and were happy to take back the car mount. I looked at both stores, but went with GPS Central, because it is closer to me.
  5. on the HTML subject... I tried to format some text in MS word, saved as html, then cut and pasted through notepad into the listing description. All the formating disapears...? I tried again with Front page, and the same thing. Am I doing something wrong? Also why is searching the forums for "HTML" not permitted???
  6. Normally I code all my HTML by hand. i.e. using notepad to add frames, tables, links, formatting etc. you know the simple stuff, but it takes some time. I tried outputing an HTML file in MSWord (XP edition), saved to the hard drive, then cut and past from notepad into a new cache listing, but the code didn't work. Is there a list of HTML that is accepted by the system? What programs, if any, do others use? I tried to search "HTML" in the forums, but every time I tried the search gets rejected.
  7. My First and only TB: - I placed it on Jan 20. - It was picked up and moved one Cache17miles (27Km) on Jan 23. - A cacher noted that my TB was missing from that cache on Jan 31. 11 days... I am hoping someone just forgot to log it, or is holding it until the go on vacation or something (since it's mission is to travel to a specific destination). Not sure if I want to send out the copy tag or not.
  8. I also found this site to be informative... http://www.prairie.mb.ca/mapsource_comp_review.htm
  9. This has happened to me a couple of times, years ago, as a result of stress and lack of sleep. I dreamt in Assembler Lauguage. If I remeber correctly I tried the code after I woke up and it worked. kind of scarry. Not sure if it helps figuring out Cache puzzles though.
  10. I have a Magellan GPS 310. It is totally non functional. I carfully cut it open along the seam, to see if I could find anything wrong, but found nothing. You could glue it back together, no problem, if needed. Other than that it looks great. $10 USD to package it up + actual shipping cost (from Canada) Let me know if you are interested and how soon you need it (ie shipping method), and I will find out what the shipping is.
  11. I always feel out of place, no matter what I am doing. So caching is just like a normal thing for me.
  12. Maybe your should have PM'd that one, instead of anouncing it to everyone. Just a thought.
  13. If Deet desolves plastic, what do you think it is doing to your skin? http://www.environmentalhealth.ca/spring03hazards.html That link says it contains, among other things, toluene. I use Toluene at work, and know it causes birth defects in women.
  14. I bought a Palm IIIxe when it came out years ago, but never really got into using it, so it sat in the closet for many years. Last week I bought Cachemate and GSAK, along with a CG.com membership. dusted off the old Palm. The IIIxe does a great job, and you could buy one cheap on eBay. With a cheap unit you don't have to be that worried about getting it wet or losing it out in the woods. If I where to buy another Palm fo Caching, I would probably get a Palm Vx, which is also ~$50 on ebay.
  15. I looked when I first saw this thread. At first I couldn't find any caches either, but South Korea is Listed, and they have 31 caches. I wouldn't want to be stomping around the bushes with a GPS in North Korea anyways... South Korea
  16. Well I can't say anything about the Magellan units (and I have only been caching a short time), but that Garmin Legend is a very nice GPS. Certainly more than enough to get started in Caching. It will have a built in 'base map' inside, but I am not sure if wil have your local area in Seoul. Mine has the all the highways, and some major roads for North and South America, plus major cities all over the world. The Legend also has 8Mb of memory so you can download more detailed local maps. As for upgrading later, that depends on what you want to do with it, like Weather Monitoring, Auto Route Navigation, if you want to hold maps for all of aisa, marine navigation, etc you might want to. Remember the Legend (the cheapest on your list) is still several models up from Gramins base model. The legend has everything you need for caching, so bang for the buck that is it IMHO. From my experience, the only other thing you need is a Compass for the last 15 feet to the cache
  17. Just thought I would link this here (I don't think it has been posted in this thread yet). This is a scanned 'Follow-up' article from the newspaper, posted on the Cache page by one of the eastern Cachers. There is no date on the article, but it sounds like it was written before Cost2Cost2Cost contated them.
  18. I know on some GPS's, if they loose the Satalite signal, they just guess your speed and direction from the last data it had. Then 'snap' back when they get back on track. Hence the 1200 MpH. That would depend on what Unit you are using.
  19. I have only had my GPS for four weeks and for the most part I think it's great, but here are my suggestions. 1) More Memory is a good one to have. I would like to see (in future unitis) the option to add more memory to some of the midrange units, without having to pay for things like the Electronic Compass, or Barometric Altimiter. I have a Rino 120: 2) 2 or 4 batteries, not 3. I like to use Rechargeble Batteries. The odd number of batteries in this unit make it unsafe to use rechargebles (I know; I work for a battery manufacturer). There is no 3 battery charger, and mixing batteries of different charge levels in a device or charger is not recommended. 3) I don't always use the Radio. I would like the Rino to remember if I turned the Radio off last time, instead of me having to go through the menu every time I start up. 4) Higher resolution screen. 5) When cycling through screens, skip the Navigation screen if I am not currently navigating. 6) The Time would be nice, on all the screens. You could fit it on the title bar. 7) The ability to scroll through the dates of the Sun and Moon/Hunt and Fish Calculators. Having to type each date in with the little stick and keypad is ridiculously slow. 8) Where I live WAAS is only avalible in open areas, and I have to turn it off if there are trees around. I would like to have the option to turn WAAS on and off from the Satalite and Radio pages; instead of MAIN MENU -> SETUP -> SYSTEM -> WAAS -> Disabled. Right now we are talking 20+ pushes and clicks on the joystick every time I want to swich it. 9) I have MetroGuide Canada version 4. I assume the POI take up memory. Is it possible to limit the number of POI it downloads? 10) I was looking at a waypoint (from the FIND'N GO -> MAP screen), but accidently moved the point. I would like the ability to undo the last move command, or a move here 'OK'/'Cancel' prompt. <edit grammar and spelling> 11) Spell check look-up feature. (just kidding)
  20. The Easyest option would be the Hand warmer sugested by Alahpawolf. Next would be the Lithium Batteries. They work well in the cold, but they also have a extreamly long shelf life. I know some photographers that save these only for cold days. When it warms up they switch to the regular batteries and store the Lithiums until the next time they need them. This method also works, but your not really "tricking" the batteries. You are just keeping them warm in your pocket. You can buy one of the Car adaptors and cut off the cigarette litter part.
  21. I see Jeremy Changed his forum Picture. Do you like the new photo? I thought the old one made him look like Conan O'Brian.
  22. ?¿? - An AXE - ¿?¿ Are chopping down trees or looking for small plastic containers?
  23. :thinks for a second: Hey, if a lot of people chip in they she'd probably get a better GPSr than I have. Ummm... I've found a Cache too, and I just don't know what to make of it. In fact I have found about a dozen caches, and it's kind of neat... Please send me a 76cs.
