  1. I wanted to post this one early on, but thought I better wait until it gets approved. As you can tell, I had some fun with Photoshop on this one! The Woodway Witch Project - MOC
  2. Thats got to be it! I saw mine all day long while I had a cache pending approval. Now that its approved, that link is now gone. And to think, I thought you were all just crazy!
  3. Free Anonymous Downloads At Jon's Place!!!! Come on guys, really? Are you serious? The whole first half this thread talked about people HACKING networks back when it was a pain in the rear to do. Now, you've got open wireless networks broadcasting themselves into the airwaves and aren't doing anything to secure it. At least turn on WEP so the traveling punks will see the little "lock" symbol in NetStumbler and keep on driving. Sorry for the off topic rant.... let me get back on topic. Free Wireless Cache Browsing at Jon's Place!!!!
  4. Free music and movie downloads for ALL! Don't be surprised when your local sheriff alongside the RIAA and/or MPAA come knocking at your door.
  5. Nor do I. I'm just talking about the cache pages, not the hide. Have you seen a cache page so "flashy" that it made you want to do that cache? For example, Rapunzel. *** Edited for politeness and to provide an example. ***
  6. Simply highlight the first TB marker in your left-side list and hit F10 on your keyboard. This will zoom you around from location to location. If you want to get really fancy, you can save "snapshot" of each TB stop and then go flying.
  7. I've seen hundreds of plain-text cache pages, but I also see a few here and there that have some sort of graphic to add pizzazz. But, I've hardly seen any that really make me go "WOW! I want to find THAT cache!" Have you seen any like that, and if so, please post a link?
  8. Thanks to the kindness of ladycacher at a local event last night, I've got this one in my hands right now! I can't wait to HIDE this one!!! The only question is, should it be "dead" or "alive"?
  9. Personally, I like it. But you're gonna hear about this one from others I'd suggest as in other posts that you add some sort of subtle marking that muggles won't notice, but cachers will that alerts them that it's safe to muck around with this. I found one once that was very vaguely similar to this. The only reason I checked it was because the owner wrote the cache name initials on the cap. Otherwise I wouldn't even have checked it. All this to say, I love your idea. I've got one just like this too, but without the sockets. Lift the waterproof lid and there's the log.
  10. I wonder how many children have been accidently killed because they found their dad's GPSr around the house? I'd wear a vest!
  11. I almost forgot. Yes, I wardrive while caching. I do it mostly for fun and map out the connections via JiGLE. I do NOT connect to private networks secured or insecure. I DO connect to public hotspots that are designed for public use (truck stops, Schlotsky's, cafes, etc.) I've even written a short article about this practice on my blog, WiFi Caching Map. Yes, my own AP is included on that map! NOTE: I do not encourage or condone the use of some else's wireless network for any purpose (including Geocaching) without proper consent. Also, the lack of security does NOT imply consent. The detection and/or mapping of publicly broadcasted signals is my definition of wardriving. I am simply detecting signals, not connecting to networks via those signals. This is no different that driving around with my windows down listening to dogs bark and mapping them. I do NOT attempt to listen to any particular dog's conversation and do not use that dog for my own personal use (including Geocaching).
  12. I'm pretty sure the ARPANet was gone well before then. The term Internet came to play in 1974 as ARPANet began its phase-out. TCP/IP based Internet had its roots back in the 1970's and was adopted by the Defence Dept. in 1980 and universally adopted by 1983 replacing NCP (Network Control Protocol) or the last remnants of ARPANet. The government funded 56K backbone NSFNet came about in the mid-1980's. Gopher didn't come around until 1991. History lesson aside, you are right! Those were the days! In fact, I just found the old manual for ToneLoc!
  13. Enter the Cachepoint in your GPSr, and then use the projection-of-waypoint function to set your waypoints at a certain distance and direction.. You will then have the coords of these waypoints. The problem with this idea is that the direction is not known. We know the distance, but not the direction.
  14. There we go. This is the answer I'm looking for! A mathematical way to solve it.
  15. By golly! There they are! Thanks! Now, about the email not sending....
  16. I generally prefer the nice walks but also do almost anything. Just recently for my #100 did our local 5/5 which was an 8.5 mile kayak trip, scaling a 20 foot cliff, and then climbing up the inside of a 30 foot tower that goes up 30 feet and DOWN 30 feet into the cliff and water below.
  17. Does anyone know an easy, more precise method for triangulating coordinates from three other coordinates? A new local cache "Uh Oh! Not Again!" gives me three points and tells me that the cache is 1 mile from one of the points, 2 miles from another, and 3 miles from another. I've printed out a map and pulled out my trusty compass, but surely there has to be a better way that drawing circles to identify the 6 possible waypoints. Thoughts?
  18. Maybe I'm just missing the link to it, but it seems like the PQ links that used to be on my Account page are no longer there. I can still go directly to http://www.geocaching.com/pocket, but can't get there from http://www.geocaching.com/my. Also, I tried to send a couple of emails to other cachers. Normally, I get my "copy" of the email within a minute. Tonight, its been almost an hour and I haven't gotten it yet at all. Anyone else noticing these issues?
  19. Please note: I am not Scottish nor do I own a kilt. But my wife did have this old tartan skirt that I put on before heading out after one of our lake caches. That's my etrex around my neck.
  20. Is anyone else experiencing REALLY slow downloads of GPX files from G-mail since the last GSAK 6.0.1 update? GSAK used to grab these files from the mail server in just a matter of seconds (small GPX files of course 2446K), but since I've installed the 6.0.1 update, these same downloads from G-mail take 8-10 minutes. Don't know if its GSAK or Gmail or something in between. I can manually login to gmail and download the attachments in just a few seconds, but this same process now takes forever from GSAK. John
  21. This program just ROCKS!!!!! Anyone have any experience getting one of these maps to display on a Blogger.com blog hosted by blogspot.com? For example, can I post a Google map view of the caches I just found in downtown Nashville during my recent trip on my blog http://AdventuresInGeocaching.blogspot.com?
  22. I'm a HUGE fan of GSAK. This program totally rocks! I would really love to export my GSAK data as a GPX file and create the GoogleMaps that way using your program. I'll email you a GPX file that I generated from GSAK. *** testing and development only, not giving away my PQs ***
  23. Got any plans for a quick build from a GPX file? I'd sure love to load my GPX file and have the code generated instead of trying to do these all on my own one at a time. Otherwise, nice little program. On a side note, I manually created a folder called "desktop" in the C:\Windows directory on XP SP2, and everything worked like a champ even before this latest build.
  24. Let me split some more. Unless I'm misunderstanding, Google doesn't want you to use their site to scrape geocodes. However, they provide methods to display your own POIs on Google maps with coordinates (geocodes) you provide. Crackhead wrote an app to automate the display of POIs on Google maps. How is this scraping a site for geocodes? You've provided the geocodes to Google by submitting POIs for display, not by picking random POIs on the maps and extracting the coordinates. This program gives geocodes, not scrapes them. Just my 2cents....
  25. I've got a problem just recently when trying to run filters in GSAK. I've begun receiving the following error. Also, is there a reason it is trying to reference this file via an administrative share instead of the direct file path? Cannot open file \\HIDDENMACHINENAME\c$\Program Files\GSAK\temp\arclist.txt
