  1. I'm looking at putting together a cache that requires using Radio Direction Finding to get to the final location, however I wanted to find out what fellow hams are doing?

I'm looking at using a BigRedBee BeeLine 16mw transmitter with a carefully disguised 1.5 watt solar panel to charge the battery so I don't have to swap it out every 3-4 days.

Any thoughts? Hopefully some people can post similar caches that I could use as an example. :D Thanks!

Why don't you just hide the cache and put the coordinates on APRS using your home rig?

  2. I'm relatively new to ham radio (licenced in 8/09) and totally new to geocaching. Looking forward to getting started on the latter. At the same time, I'm discovering APRS. I'm wondering if there's a GPS unit out there that works well for the simple, paperless geocaching, and and also has some kind of port to hook up so that it can pass location info to a transceiver when I'm not using it for geocaching.

    Thank you :D

You can do both at the same time! :P

Use a GPS on a Kenwood TH-D7 and start geocaching while QRV on APRS.

Try a Garmin Etrex for starters.

GPS for paperless geocaching are still expensive.

    Good luck!
