Aside from geocoins and travel bugs, there are a few trackable "items" that already exist. GeoGems are colored gems made from some kind of plastic and they have a tracking number on them. Hogwildstuff sold plastic signal the frog figurines that had a tracking number stamped onto the bottom. So, yes it is possible to make other things trackable. The problem is making sure that when the items go into caches, they are recognized as a trackable item and not just as part of the cache's regular swag.

I have been collecting coins for a while now, and have accumulated way too many coins. I have more than I can possibly display or even have the space to store. I have also been out of work for the past year and a half, so selling some coins will help out with the bills that keep coming even though the paychecks have stopped. After sorting through my coins, I have pulled out a bunch that I feel I can part with, and I have started listing them on the e-place. The next batch of auctions is ending this Tuesday night, and I have more coins that I plan to list in the next week or so. I have a wide variety of different coins, plus some artist editions that I will be listing. Piebald Deer Here is a link I found with some info about piebald deer.

I saw this deer while caching in Campgaw, and managed to get a good picture of it. I googled it when I got home, because I had never seen a deer with this coloration. From what I found online, it is a whitetail deer with a genetic abnormality that causes the unusual color. The genetic defect can also cause some other physical birth defects, but the deer we saw looked normal except for the color. Only about 1% of the deer population will have the defect, so it was a rare thing to see!

The 2009 Tadpole coins have arrived!! Coins are in hand and are now available for sale. There are two versions for sale, both in Black Nickel. One version has Imitation Hard Enamel coloring, and the second version has Translucent Enamels. The coins measure 2 inches wide and 3mm thick. They are trackable at geocaching.com and will have a custom icon. In order to give everyone a chance to purchase coins, I am limiting orders to 3 coins of each version, for a total of 6 coins per order. Coins are $10 each. Shipping to the US and Canada will be $2.50 for the first coin, and $.50 for each additional coin. Shipping to all international destinations will be $3.50 for the first coin, and $1 for each additional coin. You are right, the translucent is the one on the bottom. Both the hard enamel coin and the translucent coin will feel smooth when you touch them. The translucent enamel lets you see through it, kinda like stained glass, so that you can put designs or textures in the metal underneath the color, and the designs can be seen through the color.

Usually what I do if I find a coin or TB in a cache that is not listed in the cache's inventory is 1. Grab the traveler from wherever it is 2. Drop it into the cache where I actually found it (this will make sure to add in the miles to that cache from its previous location) 3. Grab it right back from the cache where it was found so it shows up in my inventory 4. Next time I go caching, I drop the traveler into another cache You do need the tracking number to be able to grab the traveler back from the cache where you found it. If you already physically dropped the traveler into a new cache but didn't save the tracking number, you will only be able to drop the traveler once from your inventory, and you won't be able to grab it back.

I would like to announce my new personal coin, the 2009 Tadpole!! I just got my samples in from the mint this morning, and I will be placing the final order tonight. The coins are 2", trackable on geocaching.com, and will have a custom icon. I plan to offer 2 versions for sale, and will also be making 2 LE versions for trade at MWGB and/or GCF. I am hoping the coins will be done by the end of July (crossing my fingers I get them in time for the MWGB). I will NOT be doing a presale or reservation, I will post pricing information here once I have the coins in hand ready to ship out.
