  1. Does anyone know of a freely available ActiveX control for communicating with a GPSr? Or, if not free, then a reasonably priced one that works well? I've got an idea I'd like to try, but I'd rather not go through the hassle of programming the serial communications from scratch.
  2. Great app! Thanks much! One itty-bitty little nit-pick ... in my area (at least) there are a number of caches that have fractional difficulty/terrain ratings; i.e., 1.5, etc. The app doesn't allow for that. Excellent work regardless. Again, thanks.
  3. quote:Originally Was it the iConcepts one? I did a quick search and found that for $14.95, $5 rebate. Aye, that's the one.
  4. I'm going out to visit my sister, who lives north of Philly, in August. I did a search from her home address ... 936 caches within 100 miles! I hope she knows I've planned our time together.
  5. It's a basic point and shoot camera. It has on board memory only, and can hold 27 pics. There is no option for pic quality, they are all 640x480. It runs on 2 AAA batteries, which are included. There is no display, only a standard viewfinder. The 'shutter' is pretty slow, so no action pics with this one. Software is functional. It's designed to be used as a web cam. USB connection, cable included. No flash. Extra shutter button on back so you can snap a pic of yourself more easily. Lanyard included.
  6. Thanks for the info, BusBoy. I snagged one today. Pretty shoddy, as you'd expect, but not bad for snapping quick snap-shots. Can't beat the price.
  7. Which Office Max did you see that at? I live in Cow-lumbus, too.
  8. I'd be up for this, and I just dragged a couple friends down with ... er ... into geocaching as well, I'm sure they'd be interested as well.
  9. quote:Originally posted by Argyle-: The word 'swag' is actually an acronym. It's _S_tuff _W_e _A_ll _G_et I'm fine with swag, or geoswag... The word swag has been around much too loiong to be an acronym. General rule of thumb - if a word has been around since before World War II, it isn't an acronym. More likely the acronym was made up after the fact, i.e., words like golf and posh. Sorry to go off topic, but this is how stuff like that gets spread. We now return you to your regularly scheduled thread.
  10. Carried mine through security in the past month at: CMH (Columbus, OH) DET (Detroit, MI city) MPS (Minneapolis, MN) LAX (Los Angeles, CA) SNA (Orange County, CA, aka John Wayne Intl.) Got spot checked at CMH and LAX, they barely glanced at the GPS. Also, in the pre-flight safety speech, Northwest Airlines explicity mentions GPSRs as disallowed items.
  11. That is exceptionally cool! My SASE is on the way.
