  1. Well, since it says "Charter Member" under your name, I'd say don't worry about it.

  3. I have a Visore Deluxe, which I love. When I purchased it, a comparable Palm brand device was about twice as much. One small caveat, however. The Visors (at least the older ones, I'm pretty sure the current ones are the same) have the OS on a ROM instead of in flash memory like the Palms do. This means that the OS cannot really be upgraded. My device has PalmOS 3.1 on it, and some more recent software requires 3.5 or better. Still the price difference makes it worth it to me.
  4. It is my proposal that Geocahing henceforth be known by the full descriptive: a Growing Ecological Outdoor Caching Activity Concerning Hiking In Non-navigable Growth or, GEOCACHING for short.
  5. You may also want to let it dry longer. The reason I say this is because of an incident I had with a cell phone. It got drowned - while in my pocket, no less. I took it apart, let it dry overnight. Tried it again about 24 hours later - nothing. So I called my service provider and made arrangements to get a replacement. I got it three days later, along with a box and shipping materials to send to old phone back. Just out of curiosity, I tried to turn it on before I shipped it - it worked! Since the phone has no waterproofing at all, it seems like the eTrex is even more likely to survive this incident. Anyway, just a thought.
  6. Is that all the detail that was given? If the book title isn't given and no detail is given on what statue this is and where it is located (beyond a city), then I'd suspect it's apocryphal. A lack of specific details is a warning sign of an urban legend. Remember, snopes (great site, ain't it?) address urban legends that turn out to be true as well as ones that are simply urban legend. Just because something isn't on there doesn't mean it's more or less likely to be true - it just hasn't beem spread around enough to get attention enough to be looked in to.
  7. The basic eTrex is perfectly able to connect to a computer. It simply does not come with the cable - it is a separate purchase. It is possible to buy serial to USB adapter. There's some discussion on the topic in this thread.

  9. I've been looking at this unit, and was hoping someone who has one could answer a question for me ... in the pictures I've seen of the Pro, it looks like there's a Topo map being shown. Is this part of the base map that's included? Thanks.
  10. Just a bit of friendly advice, based on experience. This applies to virtually anything... If you're afraid to break it, you'll never learn anything. Cheers!

  18. Living in Columbus, I would definitely be down for this.
  19. Did you only receive a negative email from one searcher? Or have there been more than one. I'm certainly no expert, but I'd say that if you double checked the coordinates, and you got someone else to check them, and only one person has complained, then you're probably okay.
  20. Consider yourself fortunate that it didn't decide to attack. That rabbit is dynamite! Death awaits you all with nasty, big, pointy teeth! Run away! Run away! Ahem. Sorry 'bout that.

  23. A picture taken with this camera. I present to you, Carter - The World's Grumpiest Cat A couple notes... The software included will only save the images as bitmap files. This one was converted into a JPEG, but looks pretty much the same. In other words, the picture quality you see here is essentially what you'll get right out of the camera. Also ... it appears to drain batteries even when not in use. BUT the memory is volatile, so if you take the batteries out in the field, you'll lost the pics. It will take power off the USB connection, so you can hook it up to the computer and take the batteries out. This makes it unsuitable for a cache camera. Still ... ten bucks.
