  1. That is right up there on the "dumbest things I read today" list I have going for January 22, 2019.
  2. This is so ridiculous. The finder was clearly and without any doubt intentionally trying to start something. You don't go out and sign logs with ink that can't be seen without a special light if you aren't trying to be "cute". Grow up. No CO should be expected to do anything but look at the log sheet and see a signature. Personally, I feel that any bodily fluid is essentially a biohazard and I would rather people just snap a photo than spit or bleed in my cache. Again...GROW UP. As for simply making some sort of mark just to verify you were there...no. How is a dot of mud valid? Maybe the next guy says "Oh, I folded the top left corner down because I didn't have a pen". Then maybe the next guy rips a square out of the log as his "mark". Then the next person wads the log up because hey...it's a distinct mark, right? No thanks, folks. Just snap a photo if you don't have a plain old ink pen or pencil. None of this ridiculous game-playing with invisible ink or muddy marks. One last time: GROW....UP.
  3. How about this? Don't have a default log type at all. Force the user to select a log type before it can be sent.
  4. Yeah...a rushed job (with an empty box)...but you get the idea:
  5. It may be a temporary clearing thing where they set goats out to eat the invasive weeds and vines. I personally would have posted a Note instead of a Found It or DNF log...but that's been discussed to death already.
  6. Dear god...leave it to the forum-crawlers to take a statement so literally. The point was about what I would consider would make the $30 annual fee "worth it", which is 100% subjective.
  7. My one and only goal: to make my $30 renewal worth the money. Now, I realize that's entirely subjective, so I figure at about 25 cents a pop, I only need to get about 120 or so caches this year. I'd pay 25 cents per cache, I guess.
  8. The message center is there for this very reason, to send messages. There are rules in place for offensive or "stalkerish"/abusive messages and for anyone who is weird about receiving any messages, they can ignore it or block the user. So basically I think you worry too much.
  9. With the nanos, sometimes I'll just unroll an inch or two and sign the first white space I see so I don't have to unroll and reroll that tiny strip of paper.
  10. There is no "wrong place". I fail to see how it could be confusing in any way.
  11. I'm confused. "Put a piece of paper in place"...where? Inside of what?
  12. Ha! Here's an idea. The first half of the coordinates are given...then the person has to quickly exit the phone booth within that five seconds to find the other half on a display on the exterior.
  13. I hate sewer/culvert caches. People around here really seem to enjoy them, but I just think they are a bad idea all around. Dangerous, gross and the fact that they are underground basically means that accurate coordinates are difficult, if not impossible, to obtain. I've gone for two culvert caches. One passed under a wide roadway, but at an angle, so the tunnel was quite long. The other was very tight for me (I'm 6'-2" tall). There was one stormwater drain cache I went for and, after that, I swore off any caches that were in a storm drain or culvert. This one involved pulling off a manhole cover and climbing down a short iron-rung ladder into a brick and concrete vault where the ammo box was chained. I got down alright, but coming up was tricky and I slipped and almost smacked my skull against the rear wall (caught myself just in time). I realized just how stupid the very concept of such a cache hide was...and how even if I had someone with me at the time, it could have been a major issue if I'd injured myself. I don't even want to think about accidental death in such a scenario...which was all too possible. In the end, I just concluded there is no good reason to hide a cache in such a place and that people who enjoy going after them can have their strange type of fun without me being involved.
  14. I guess my point shouldn't have been phrased as a question. I honestly just feel like none of those points you list should be a factor. As long as I post honestly, I have no problem with triggering a CHS reminder, no matter what cache we are talking about. * If a cache needs maintenance, post an NM log. If you can't find it, post a DNF log. If the cache owner abandons a cache and doesn't maintain it, post an NA log. This should all be very obvious and nobody ever ought to feel uneasy or conflicted about being 100% honest about the conditions in the field. * Also, this is entirely separate from the subject of whether or not a particular log SHOULD be a CHS thing. Personally, I feel DNFs should barely affect the CHS, if at all.
  15. Honestly...why is the CHS discouraging anyone from filing any log? Why is the threat of a reminder to someone else causing anyone to hesitate to post the appropriate log?
  16. It varies wildly, depending entirely on where you are and who the normal reviewer is for your area. Pretty lucky here in Georgia to have a reviewer that almost always will publish within 12 to 24 hours...often within a just a few hours of submitting. Others typically have to wait days or even a week or two. It's probably more useful for you to ask people in your area how long they generally have to wait.
  17. If I understand correctly, those uploaded by cachers with their logs are "scrubbed". Those uploaded to the cache page by the CO are not. Perhaps you would need to host your image on a different site...? Someone know for sure?
  18. FCC ruling will help make smartphone GPS more accurate
  19. So if you spot your keys down a sewer grating but can't reach them, you tell folks you didn't find them...or do you note that you found them but were unable to reach them? Again, it's all pretty clear-cut to me...but enough people in here seem to think it's a binary choice: Found or DNF. I just happen to believe that isn't logical.
  20. Not at all...but I'm over trying to figure out why people are confused about simple english language.
  21. HUH? What are you talking about? No. If I find the cache container but am unable to reach it, I post a Note, not a DNF....because I physically/visually located it but was not able to perform the action required to log the find online. For some reason, this seems to actually confuse people and I honestly do not understand why. Instead, they seem determined to claim that Groundspeak is "redefining" the term "found".
  22. Here we go again...redefining the meaning of "find". No, no, no. There's a difference between FINDING a cache and LOGGING A FIND on geocaching.com. Dear lord...
  23. I don't know what "massive gray fog" you are talking about. I just have a regular ol' map on my screen.
  24. Ah. Well, I don't usually do searches on the site. I just go straight to the map view and pan around. It does seem quite laggy, but otherwise it looks just like the map in the mobile app.
