  1. This is confusing two new Dakota 20 owners..

We went out for a multi at lunch, drove to the car park and walked to the place where all the clues were (know the area well so no need for GPS at this point).

We worked out the co-ords, hit where to, and entered the co-ords and hit Go.

Now both of us have 'Geocache active' as the dashboard in the compass and got very confused with the two compasses being displayed, and wasn't entirely sure whether the distance was to the co-ords of the cache, or the co-ords of the multi..

I changed it to 'large display' and just one compass was displayed, all became clear.

What do other users do when they're not navigating to a cache, select a different dashboard as I did, or something else?

  2. Yepper --- 3.10 resolves the problem that was evidently introduced on 5/11 in the 3.00 release. Thanks again. That was becoming a real pain in a hurry!

Thanks for posting this and the resolution. I tried to use my Dakota 20 to mark where my first cache was hidden today and wondered why it lost it when I switched it off, when I was sure it didn't last time I used it!

  3. Before you buy the 1:50,000 check this out for free 1:25,000.

There is a limit on how much you can load onto your unit in one go (100 images). I find with the zoom set to 15, I can get around 100 Km^2

IF this isn't for you, you've lost nothing, if it is, you've just saved over £100.

Thanks.. I gave it a go for 15 tiles but nothing seemed to download (once I'd installed the software). I think I need to read the instructions more...!

  4. I am enjoying my Dakota 20 and the OSM map is pretty good... but I am eyeing up the o/s maps of the UK at 1:50,000..

Now there have been some firmware updates, are all the reported issues of fuzziness gone, and also what happens if you say buy the CD and upload then lose/break your GPSr - can you activate the mapds onto a replacement? Not that I want to break my GPS, but curious to know...

    Thanks in advance :)

  5. The nearest I can get is using - (setup) - (position format) - (hddd*mm'.mmm') - (map datum) - (WGS 84) - (maps spheroid WGS 84) is this were i am wrong!!!

this should be the correct setting.

I've hit 'Where To?' then coordinates, and plumbed them in fine, also done as a waypoint as well.

If you mark your position as a waypoint, does it show accurately enough?

Having the dashboard view of 'Geocache nearest' or whatever it's called, is quite confusing on the compass - I have to turn that off otherwise I think I'm navigating somewhere else!
