  1. "No" seconded. "One should never begin a journey by heading in the wrong direction."
  2. Congratulations as well. Took me a while to realize that, even if MY gps was giving me an "accurate to 14 feet" indication, that was no guarantee that 1) the cache placer had anything LIKE that accuracy, and 2) the cache placer, well, how shall I say it... really knew what they were doing. Plus you've got terrain issues: out in Arizona, where there was nothing higher than a fist-sized rock for miles in any direction, we found ourselves being led directly to the cache spots by the gps - could have found them without even looking at the terrain. But here in the hills and canyons around L.A., you've got tree cover issues, lack of coverage (ability to see much of the sky); in these instances, there are times when the gps will give you only the most general idea of where you need to be looking. But, hey, that's what it's all about! You'll find that, if you stick with it, your learning curve will be quite satisfactory. Good luck! 3. I've been struggling with the same thing, when I describe this dadgum thing to my friends. I'm liking "adventure," personally. "Hobby" makes me think of something people's dad's do in their basements! Charlie "One should never begin a journey by heading in the wrong direction."
  4. Yeah, I've been having the same problem all day! Charlie "One should never begin a journey by heading in the wrong direction."
  5. So, the pyramid scheme is alive and well! You know, if everyone who read this sent me a dollar...[] Charlie "One should never begin a journey by heading in the wrong direction."

  7. Isn't it amazing that we spend so much time arguing about how we wish others just saw things the way we did? Do what you want to do and leave others to do the same! Don't you think? I mean, come on, you have to work pretty hard just to get a LIST of locationless caches! Charlie "One should never begin a journey by heading in the wrong direction."

  9. Hey, if you don't like it, don't do it. That's always been the way I looked at it. Got a problem with virtuals? Don't do 'em. Hate locationless? Steer clear. But other people have different opinions. Wouldn't life be boring if they didn't? Then you wouldn't have anything to complain about! 11. I'm using rechargable NiMh's... and they seem to last forever. Maybe five finds spread over a couple of weeks! Charlie "One should never begin a journey by heading in the wrong direction."
  12. No one's going for it, Dru... and I have to agree! Charlie "One should never begin a journey by heading in the wrong direction."

  17. You know, that's not a bad idea... until I can get a cell phone that servicably operates on the web! Charlie "One should never begin a journey by heading in the wrong direction."
  18. I find them extremely annoying. You never expect them, who knows what volume your speakers are set at. WHAM. Let's lose 'em! Charlie "One should never begin a journey by heading in the wrong direction."
  19. Your car keys! Charlie "One should never begin a journey by heading in the wrong direction."
  20. I second the motion on Dog Day Afternoon. Also Ruins of War in the City. If you get down to Palo Alto, The Dump is a beautiful spot. Hope you get to take in a game at Pac Bell! Charlie "One should never begin a journey by heading in the wrong direction."
  21. A micro to me is a film can, an Altoids box, or (my favorite) a Hide-a-Key. Something where you REALLY have to be restrictive about what you might leave behind... if anything. Charlie "One should never begin a journey by heading in the wrong direction."
  22. Not in my book. I'd be upset if I'd placed a cache a half-mile from parking, and then someone else set one up in between the car and mine... but this situation seems entirely different. On the other hand, one of the original caches in our area was placed about 2 miles up a pretty steep trail - you'd really have to be in shape to make it. Someone else placed a cache about a third of the way up - still a good half-hour or so on trail, and at a sort of false summit. I did both the other day, and was glad to get a two-fer for the amount of sweat I expended. I didn't feel these two were stepping on each other at all. I guess, my bottom line, is use your own aesthetic sense. Is it a unique spot, a destination in and of itself, that's free of a cache so far? Then go for it! Charlie "One should never begin a journey by heading in the wrong direction."
  23. We've hidden two micro-caches in Hide-a-Keys. Charlie "One should never begin a journey by heading in the wrong direction."
