  1. I once had 2.06b loaded, which always recalculated, even if you aborted the recalc. This was Not Nice , when on vacation... so I reloaded 2.05. Overall, I don't have much problems with beta's. I do provide lots of feedback to gpsvbeta@garmin.com and were asked for more info on various occasions. This has resulted in some "private" beta's to test the bugfix some times. -- Robert Elsinga =8-) geocaching (at) elsinga.org
  2. quote:Originally posted by eahousley:Oops, I take that back. I had one situation where it popped up a turn warning 50 miles early. This is a know bug, if this happened crossing a map boundary. I've been working with Garmin on this one, which popup up in 2.09beta (went away in 2.10beta and reappeared in 2.11beta). I have another couple of bugs in 2.11beta: - when starting a find while not having a 3d fix yet, the V does calculate a route, but forgets to change the moving sat icon into the moving route calc icon. While that is no problem, it also keeps moving the map while I drive... which consumes CPU, so calculation takes considerably longer. And this is confusing... it took me a few days testing to figure this out (did resets, power cyucles, etc...). - the ETA time display can sometimes stay at --:-- when at 0m from a turn and being stationary. Not a nice thing when indoor and you want to know how long a route will approx. take. Other than that, no major problems and very happy with Garmin beta's. -- Robert Elsinga =8-) geocaching (at) elsinga.org
  3. Changes made from version 4.10 to 4.11: Changed software version number from 4.10 to 4.11. Modified code to improve performance of data transfers to GPS unit. Fixed several defects associated with the handling of Asian characters. Fixed problem where hovering over the print icon did not show a tooltip. Fixed bug where route headings were being exported incorrectly. Fixed bug where scrollbar on the real time tracking page was not always displayed when it should have been. Modified creation of the waypoint description so that it used the name of the nearest feature, if any, or a date/time stamp if no feature name is available. MapSource 4.10 always inserted an English language data/time stamp in this field. Fixed bug where MapSource would crash if it could not correctly read in the value for Grid, Datum, or Heading written to the registry by an older version of MapSource. -- Robert Elsinga =8-) geocaching (at) elsinga.org
  4. I now have a wishlist online, with (manual) voting. You can check it out at http://www.elsinga.org/gps5wishlist. -- Robert Elsinga =8-) geocaching (at) elsinga.org
  5. quote:Originally posted by worldtraveler:It appears you may have some influence with Garmin. If so, please try to persuade them to enable waypoint projections in feet/meters. The smallest units currently enabled are 0.1 mi./km., making the feature useless for geocaching. I wouldn't call it influence... I just report bugs in (beta) firmware to them and then test the improved beta. And I tend to suggest things along the way, and some of the things actually show up (the accuracy field as an example) but where obviously also suggested by others. And they also ignore things, since they added a new game (and I always comment on the uselessness of games...). So, please go ahead and mail them yourself at gpsvbeta@garmin.com. -- Robert Elsinga =8-) geocaching (at) elsinga.org
  6. IIRC from what I read somewhere. So you see boys and lights, but no depths. -- Robert Elsinga =8-) geocaching (at) elsinga.org
  7. I noticed two: - I got extra turn screens when crossing a mpa boundary (e.q. 40 kilomters to the next turn, which is a bit too soon ) - the ETE and ETA times are only shown when moving, not directly after calculating inhome - some translations for the VIA thing not yet present All will be fixed in 2.10 (which I'm currently testing as 2.10beta). And since it is a private beta, it is not available for download (yet?). -- Robert Elsinga =8-) geocaching (at) elsinga.org
  8. It's quite full of bugs and not very intuitive... but comes without a manual. -- Robert Elsinga =8-) geocaching (at) elsinga.org
  9. ...beacuse 2.09b has a "feature" to popup turn screens while traversing a mapchunk boundary. They privately mailed me 2.10b in which this bug should be solved. Apart from that, there is only one more bug I discovered: it doesn't show ETE/ETA numbers until you are moving... which is bad if you want to find out how long the journey tomorrow will be in indoor mode. -- Robert Elsinga =8-) geocaching (at) elsinga.org
  10. At least, it produced a distorted image, which is very bad if you want to create maps from it... -- Robert Elsinga =8-) geocaching (at) elsinga.org
  11. quote:Originally posted by geospotter:To stitch the 6 images (2X3) I would probably use either PanaVue Image Assembler or Quickstitch. Both are capable of correcting any differences introduced by the scanner. I'll try them, thanks! quote:If you could reduce their size through resizing or by compressing them (JPG), I would be happy to try. Just get them down to a reasonable size for emailing. Resizing is not an option, since I need max resolution to plot roads in OziExplorer. Compression is, but they are already GIF compressed images... and will not compress much more. But I'll try myself first. Thanks for the assistance, I might need more. -- Robert Elsinga =8-) geocaching (at) elsinga.org
  12. quote:Originally posted by geospotter:I have several pieces of software that will stitch them. I would be happy to do it for you, depending on the size of the originals (for emailing purposes). Let me know how many and how big they are. They are quite large... I currently tries with 6 overlapping segments (3x2), which are all several megabytes in size... Another problem is that my scanner is not exactly aligned I guess. It seems to have a half of a degree angle... But correcting that angle in PSP doesn't work either... when the top is okay, the bottom isn't. I guess using the software myself is easier, in size that is. What software are you using? Or, are there A3 scanners? The map itself is 42x35cm... which I could reduce on a photocopier, but then I loose detail since the map itself is scale 1:150.000 already. I just maybe better off in therapy, so I don't want my GPS on vacation. -- Robert Elsinga =8-) geocaching (at) elsinga.org
  13. Hi all! I have a nice Michelin map op the Gran Canaria island. It even has a lat/lon grid printed on it. Since the GPS V basemap and the Worldmap are quite useless on Gran Canaria, I would like to make my own map. I know MapDekode and Ozi, but to use them I need a good quality scanned map. Since the Michelin map is too larger to fit under my scanner, I need to stitch 4 to 6 scans together. How do I do this? I can operate Paintshop Pro just fine, but either is a small error on the top or on the bottom of the stitching area... Help? -- Robert Elsinga =8-) geocaching (at) elsinga.org
  14. But already mailed to the Garmin engineers in question. -- Robert Elsinga =8-) geocaching (at) elsinga.org
  15. quote:Originally posted by Jolly B Good:I'll give it a try. Wonder what happened to 2.06? Never made it into the real world. Don't know why, since the bugs I dicovered in 1.06beta are still in 2.07. -- Robert Elsinga =8-) geocaching (at) elsinga.org
  16. ...but it got archived by geocaching.com because "finding x caches is not a cache".... So, I'm against having this cache. -- Robert Elsinga =8-) geocaching (at) elsinga.org

  18. Sorry Stefanne, but you mentioned *my* cache as the example and that new function would make it too easy. =8-) BTW: my GPS V has Proximity Waypoints, which do this job nicely. I was only 15 meters off the real coordinates this way. Then you use the hint... =8-) -- Robert Elsinga =8-) geocaching (at) elsinga.org
  19. But: it won't display a graph of elevation on the V. You need Mapsource 4.07 for that. You can display your current elevation though. -- Robert Elsinga =8-) geocaching (at) elsinga.org
  20. quote:Originally posted by georgeandmary: Now where in the world do you folks like that still have cell phone service in the woods. I live in the Netherlands (Europe...), where we have service in 95% of the country. Even the worse networks have coverage in 90% of the country... including most of the forests. ONly problem area is a large national park, where transmitters can;t be placed. -- Robert Elsinga =8-) geocaching (at) elsinga.org
  21. Hi! I thought of a locationless cache, where you can claim a find if you found/hid one cache in every province of the Netherlands. Could also be any county in a state, every state in the US, every country in Europe, whatever. Got a reply that it shouldn't be a cache... but this seems like a perfect example of a locationless cache to me... -- Robert Elsinga =8-) geocaching (at) elsinga.org

  23. I also patched my GPS V, in stead of the Warning page, it now displays an ownership/reward page with my address, telephone number and e-mail address.
