  1. For the last several years locally, we have told people to expect such an error that you should plan on searching a radius of 60 feet from your ground zero. However, I do strive to get the most accurate coordinate that I can. If I can get 3D differential lock, I'll use it. I was on one recently where I measured a 128 foot error. Part of the reason was leaf cover when the cache was placed. I took a careful aveage and when home and comparing them on Mapsource, the difference was actually 171 feet! Many logs mention the frustration of this huge error. In such situations, I believe a useful hint is mandatory. Or, some compass work from an identifiable object. When I find a large error, unless the cache is pretty easy to find, I will post either my averaged coordinates or what to add or subtract in the case of an offset cache.
  2. Thanks for letting us know. I'll try to up the pressure on my end too.
  3. I've had that too. Very annoying.
  4. I made a few connections through road runner tech support and the end result is that I was told to have Groundspeak clear this up with .rr.com because something on Groundspeak's end caused them to be placed in the spam filter. What? Too many quiries and cache notifications? Groundspeak, here's the link: http://security.rr.com/mail_blocks.htm RR says that some legitimate email is unfortunately blocked. I don't think I like that policy. I'd rather use my own filtering and put up with some of the garbage than miss important messages. Geez, I'm glad we have our own server at work and not using business Road Runner!
  5. I just contacted my local tech help and was told to contact spamblock@security.rr.com
  6. Thanks, that's a good idea. Just for an experiment, I created a new quiry and used my hotmail address to see if one comes through.
  7. I've wanted to do a multi where the first box has a bunch of floppies and CD's and some cassettes. One would pop it in the radio in the car and the theme from Mission Impossible would play, fade and then I'd be giving instructions for the next stage and so on. I haven't figured out the self distruct thing yet.
  8. Definitely post DNF's. It is the only way to know if there is a problem and needs a maintenance run.
  9. I've been trying to get Kanook to respond to the caches as I find them but so far he sniffs up everything but caches. Once, I think he zeroed in on one but I think that was just a coincidence.
  10. In the course of sending someone an email though here, I got a message from http://security.rr.com and another from Groundspeak saying that there was problem with the message. I happen to have Road Runner so I'm wondering if there is something there blocking anything from Groundspeak? Anyone not getting their quiries have Road Runner by chance?
  11. Due to the conspicuous absence of a topic on it, I'm thinking the problem might be on my end. However, I'll ask anyway. I've not had a Pocket Quiry since Friday. Might there be a problem?
  12. Two of my hides have specific parking coordinates because the lots are not obvious and are the only safe place to park to enter the undeveloped public land. However, I have often disregarded suggested parking as I like to blaze my own trail. One comes to mind. From normal parking, the logs said 45 minutes to the cache. I parked in a ditch and was back to the car in 25 minutes, but climbing that hill was a bear! Part of my enjoyment of caching is the preparation. I look at the area using USAPhotomaps and plan my parking and entrances with that.
  13. I've requested that feature too. I'm a bit on the fence on it because some of those that I'd like to ignore, I end up doing. However, your example of a scuba required cache is a good point. I've got an underwater one in my area too and I can't see me ever doing it. Also a locationless cache can remain there forever and no way of logging it without just listing it as a find and telling the cache owner why you did it. My biggest concern about this feature is that it has been requested many times, and Jeremy does not indicate yes, no or maybe. Or if he has, I missed it.
  14. I've often bemoaned that we have too many laws now and should clear the slate and start over. There comes a time that the plumbing has been patched so many times that it needs to be taken out and replaced.
  15. I wish I had time to read all the replies. I have to add my dittos to Criminal. Our state organization has been working with the state to attain a geocaching policy. To this date it seems like everyone thinks geocaching is good but now it is going to create PAPERWORK! I see it as the state having more important things to do than create a policy for us. They'd rather we go about things and just don't stomp on any endangered plants and don't leave too many trails before you move the cache. I like the policy of ''don't ask and don't tell", use the guidelines and a good dose of common sense. I think most land managers would prefer that too. What they don't know won't hurt them and they will just wonder why more people are using their parks and boosting the economy. I DO favor continuing work towards blanket approval or an easy to get permit, but waiting for that to happen would reduce everything to a bunch of virtual caches.
  16. I'd like to see a way to filter out unwanted caches from the pocket query. There are caches that I will never do and some DNF's that I do not intend to go back to, yet there is no way to filter them out of the pocket query results which clutters things up. The only way to do this presently is to log it as a find. I've been tempted to do this as number of finds after a few hundred holds little meaning to me anymore, but there are those that will turn into a pretzel if I were to do this.
  17. Many people come into the hobby and immediately have an enthusiastic bundle of ideas and opinions. Not a bad thing but many suggest letting the ideas simmer for a while until you get a season of caching in. You might change your mind on how you see things.
  18. To each their own way of enjoying geocaching. However, I've seen messages of encouragement and congratulations get out of control. It'd be ok for a local message board but what does 99% of the the geocaching community care about someone across the country logging X number of finds?
  19. Just a quick thought about memory. I'm wondering how fast the upload process will be with the USB connection now? If it loads quickly rather than the typical thirty minutes, I could update maps every few hours or so with the laptop that I usually have along on trips. An expensive and large memory chip, so to speak, but a solution.
  20. If you are asking about Never Lost, it has voice directions and the usual up-coming turn arrows like Garmin uses.
  21. I was unaware of the new 2600 series street pilot. This explains why the GPSMAP 60 is handheld only. Marketing. I'm disappointed. However, I expect the price of the previous versions of Street Pilots to fall as are the V's prices likely too. In which case I might just get an older Street Pilot for my cars to overcome the memory challenge of the V. I think this is an opportunity for Magellan to introduce a dual use unit. I think Garmin might have shot themselves in the foot, thinking they can sell us on buying both a GPSMAP 60 AND a Street Pilot 2600. The V has shown that one unit can do all. If Magellan comes out with something like that with the other features of the GPSMAP 60, I think the numbers of Garmin loyalists jumping ship to buy a Magellan would be staggering.
  22. I find my breadcrumbs hard to see on some backgrounds. I'm hoping that color would correct this problem.
  23. 1st disappointment. It does not appear to be able to be used horizontally. I want that extra memory for use on car trips. But, if it can't lay and stay put like my Garmin V, that is disappointing.
  24. Judging by sales, the answer is Garmin. I think a good portion of that is due to avionics sales. I wonder if their sales can be broken down to handheld GPS only? While not on topic, everyone is commenting on theirs, so I'll ad my 2 cents. I've got a V and am anxiously waiting for a version with much more memory and POI updates. I hate being directed to a gas station only to find it has been closed for a year or more or directed to a non-existant Hardee's.
