  1. If we rush to agree with such policies .. we as a caching community are setting ourselves up for more policies of the same general order.

These policies are the reason so many of the "quality" caches that some on these forums like to complain are in demise .

These are the reasons that more and more you are seeing Micros at Walmart parking lots.

Not everyone that caches has money that they can just throw out in order to place caches for policies like this.

I have nothing against supporting the Preserves , and State Lands . They are great causes.

I keep mulling this thing over in my head ... and well for me its just to much .

  2. I think you misunderstand Amber ...

No one is attacking you , and I am sure you did your best to voice your

opinion to our best interests(geocachers in INDIANA that is ) .

Plus I don't really think that geocachers would be that "put off" by becoming members ... its 10 dollar permit per cache that personally has me in a tizzy ....

Not only do they want to demand that we become members first but then they also want to add the additional cost of 10 bucks per cache placement ...

It just seems extreme for a "not for profit " organizition .

Most of the ACRES properties we are talking of do not have lakes nor historic artists homes on them such as the winghaven preserve does . Therefore some of these properties are basically "lost" to the average person that would Discover them and their beauty if it werent for geocaching .

My favorite ACRES preserve is almost totally unknown to everyone except the local people , and the cachers that the caches I will now archive brought to them .

I can name other ACRES perserves that are the same .... virtually unvisited except for "local area persons" that are aware of them .

Most of these people are mushroom hunters , or illegal hunters of another sort that should not even be there.

  3. Cybret .....

I brought this discussion to this thread ( a thread started by myself ) "a place for Indiana Geocachers to say hello and chat "

It was my beleif that this was the place to have the discussion ... NOT on the general forums .

  4.

administrative procedure will require you to send 2 (two) separate checks (one made out to ACRES Land Trust for the membership and the second $10 administrative geocache fee to Tennyson Jelinek) when you are sending your permit application to the ACRES Office.

Is this the first pay-to-cache policy implemented to GEOCACHE in INDIANA? :P

All I know is they are asking to much from the geocaching community , and I for one am not willing

to pay such a high price for the privilage of placing a cache in these wonderful areas. Its just a shame as

GeoCaches brought so many people that would not have known about them at all . Most likely (and I know this is a fact) it also brought them people that were at one time willing to become members ( and they are now ready to cancel the memberships) . I really think its awful to be expected to pay to cache in areas where donations and taxes pay for the upkeep.

  5. Well Folks , this is apparently a somewhat sad day for GEOCACHING in INDIANA ... seems that

the ACRES Preserves people have a policy and are now enforcing it .

Standard e-mails have been sent out to anyone that has caches in these preserves. They can remain there with permits that require fees and memberships.

Unfortunatly I know that some of the cachers I know that have caches placed in these preserves cannot afford such a cost and well the caches will be lost. Plus you are going to be limited to 2 permits .

And people wonder why we are resolved to hiding micros .... For some reason it seems this is becoming more and more about money .....

I suspect that one of our own is behind some of this ... as per the e-mail address (return ) that came with some of the e-mails that were sent out .

Team Tigger will comply the best we can but will probably lose a couple of there INDIANA caches as well .

    Such a sad day ...

This was the mail we got .. insert cachers or other cache names where needed but apparently this is what everyone is getting.

    Standard e-mail :

    Dear Team Tigger International,

Upon review, your cache, "Rockin Robin Revived(GCK2FM)" is located on an ACRES Land Trust property. According to the ACRES Land Trust Geocaching Policy and IDNR Geocache Policy (regarding Dedicated Nature Preserves), geocaches are prohibited on that preserve without a permit. ACRES Land Trust will allow the cache on this property if you download or visit the ACRES Office and submit a Geocaching Permit and appropriate permitting fees in the next 30 days. This permit will be good for a period of two years. Beyond that period, your geocache will need to be archived and you will need to remove it. The permit and policy can be found at:

    http://www.acreslandtrust.org/archive-geoc...0and%20form.pdf.

Should you decide to permit it, administrative procedure will require you to send 2 (two) separate checks (one made out to ACRES Land Trust for the membership and the second $10 administrative geocache fee to Tennyson Jelinek) when you are sending your permit application to the ACRES Office. If you have other caches located on ACRES properties you may receive other emails.

We hope you understand the need to maintain the balance of recreation and natural resource preservation in these great nature preserves. Should you have any questions regarding the geocache in question or the ACRES Geocache Policy, feel free to email ACRES through the geocaching.com profile link, or call or visit the ACRES office at 1802 Chapman Rd, Huntertown, IN 46748. (260)-637-ACRE (2273)

    Thank you,

    ACRES Land Trust

  6. First I have to ask this question ,

Why would anyone want to hunt a cache that requires something special to log a find , if said person has no intention of complying with said requirement?

Secondly , I do not quite understand what is the problem with special requirements .

We have done a couple of caches that requires "special " things be done or said in the log and have complied with the requests to the best of our abilities and none have ever been deleted. We figure the cache owner placed these requirements in the name of added fun to the hunt and or log.

If there is some special reason you cannot comply with a requirement perhaps before you log your find you could send the owner an e-mail explaining your situation and get there response first .

I see nothing wrong with special requirements . I also think it would be up to the cache owner to decide if your log should be deleted or not . Yes a cache owner has that right , it is after all their cache.

  7. if i could make a recomendation how about rice creek park reserve in lino lakes mn actually the little icon next to my name is the map. although there may be parking trouble im sure that can be solved with a lil extra walking. but this park has a nice beach with 2 large picnic pavillions it still may be too small but idk how many people would actually come. there also is a fancy golf coarse and 4 miles of paved trails nice park your event may be to large though but this location is close to minneapolis

    How many campsites are there?

We had over 500 cachers this year so figure 700 to 1000 next year.

  9. It looks like the Bippus Area Geocaching Organization (BAGO) took a strong lead with their proposal submitted today. It does look like the bribes work for and against, since some people prefer beverages that don't come adorned with a slice of orange.

You forgot to mention that that area is totally awsome with terrific senic views , loads of caching possibilities, great hiking and waterfalls ! Plus for those that wish there is fishing !

  10.

If you know of something that we don’t, let’s hear it. It would be better to address any problems now rather than later.

I think that Ross Camp would be a perfect venue!

:) Yes, feed the trolls! If the OP is that interested in park infractions and violations that were commited, he can ask. It is of no business to any but the planning committee. As for naming out names of those who commented... come on.

My point being, I have heard enough that I would not recommend a state park. Point said, my opinion.

Ross Camp would be a perfect venue. You'll love the alcohol policy there!

Resorting to namecalling like well lets just say it isn't nice .. as far as alcohol goes well I have it by good authority that it exsists even at events such as the POKAGON CACHERS CAMPOUT at least last years event anyhow ......

    Just my 2 cents ,

  11. Ya know its really really been hot out there .... maybe the nudecacher is onto something after all ... cept round these parts there are just far to many blood sucking vampires or thorny type plants that will allow that sort of thing .....

  12. Doesn't anyone MYOB anymore? Who cares whether I filter them out or love them to death.

This a slow posting day or something? ;)

    :shocked::(:P:)

As for micros and the question , we do not ignore micro's . We like micros , we like most all types of caches and will hunt almost all of them . With the exception of some private property caches (because they just make us personally feel uncomfortable) .

We placed a full size traditional cache in a place that we thought would not be muggled . It was in a cemetery . But alas the cache was indeed muggled and the coin and TB that was in it as well were all gone . In its place these people put not one but 2 empty beer cans ( not something a cacher would do) .

Therefore we dedided to move the cache a small distance and YES we turned it into a MICRO , in the hopes that these disrespectfull muggles would not be able to do such a thing again.

We like Micro's we like them a lot .
