  1. My link was only an example of one of the results of searching for the word "container". I simply chose a thread that contained pictures of various containers. This particular topic about what's your favorite has been covered time and again.

  4. How about a BookCrossing book icon, like a travel bug that links to the actual bookcrossing.com book entry? Also, an option to enter the bookcrossing.com tracking number, like a travel bug? A colorful little camera icon that links back to phototag.com when one of their cameras is left in the cache? An icon with question marks and currency symbols for the different where's (insert money personage here) games? -Jake
  5. True, but until or unless there is a Terms of Service, this is just something that will be a matter of time. There are a few charter members who are opposed to the MOC's...
  6. quote:Originally posted by rdw: Why would you designate it a MOCache if you wanted it to be available to everyone? Just make it a regular cache. rdw *I* wouldn't, but someone who find a MOC could easily post the coordinates to an alternate site and thereby "free" the cache for others, couldn't he or she? I'm not saying this is right, but I don't recall there being any usage Terms of Service for the MOC's. I'm just trying to let you all know that this could be used, by those who choose to do so, to undermine the effectiveness of MOC's. The sooner you think about it, the sooner you can address it.

  8. I didn't contradict myself. I further expanded on the premise. Both my two statements were issued before you jumped up my ***. I don't really give a rip if you like it or not, it's true and you're wrong. I do have a right at the top of the food chain to use this planet for my needs and wants. I do have a responsibility not to ruin it for others. My original intent is to illustrate that the NPS has no damned good reason to keep me out of *my* wilderness areas as both an inhabitant of this planet and a citizen of this country. You're just pissed because I called you out on your arrogant stance that since you've found more caches, you can use that as a reason to shout me down. Well, I say again, piss off.
  9. This would be the best way to make a GC.com MOC available to all cachers, while still supporting the GC.com efforts, wouldn't it? You know...instead of belly aching and complaining about it all.
  10. It is a fact that the human being is an animal inhabitant of this planet. It is a fact that the human being is an animal that is a *part* of nature, and not a force against it, as many like Sierra Club morons would have you believe. It is a fact that I have a natural right to roam this planet's surface and explore its natural beauty. It is a fact that I do NOT have the right to destroy it, thusly preventing my fellow human animals from also enjoying it. It is a fact that geocaching, when properly done (no food, no burying, no damage to the area of the cache), presents little environmental impact to the land of the planet to which I have a right to use for my needs as an inhabitant thereof. Is that clear enough for you? I have a broken toe, I have had a rather serious illness, and now my car is in the shop. Is this ok with you? Should I put this in my profile so that it may meet with your approval? Can I go on and plan my cache (cleaning out olive containers, painting them, collecting items for planting) and plan my travel bugs (finding unique items, figuring out how to change their color safely, etc) in peace and quiet now that I have submitted my application for geocacher to you for your stamp of arrogance...er, approval? 11. You couldn't contradict what I stated factually, so you made a snide remark about me personally. I simply returned the favor. If you don't like it, too bad.
  12. Man, you do a picnic in those pavillions, and I'm there!
  13. Stop burying caches. Stop placing food in caches. Period. Look, newbies of all activities and social groups are notorious for not reading the FAQs. They act as they witness the older, more experienced acting. So, you have a cache on public land and you bury it and leave food in it. Newbie finds it, thinks "this is neat!" Newbie then goes to a national park, and since he hasn't actually read the FAQs, he thinks (complete with the same sense of entitlement that urges people to believe they can tell Jeremy how to run HIS site) he can just bury an ammo can in a national park. Viola! You've just misrepresented geocaching to the NPS! Congratu-f**king-lations, moron! When you plant a cache, you're not just representing geocaching to the parks services, you're representing it to the new geocachers as well. Think about it.
  14. quote:How ironic then that the person presenting this most insular position appears to "roam" so very little, at least as a participant in the activity providing him the soapbox. Ahhh...the old experiential knowledge argument. You must be intellectually challenged to believe that only those who do may discuss what has been done. Anyway, I just dropped an OptiPlex GXa on my big left toe and I broke it. Toenail's been removed, swelling's gone down, and I have to soak it in Epsom salt twice daily until the nail grows back. Does this meet with your approval, oh Grand Wizard of geocacher status approval? As I've stated before, I have hunted other caches with a friend of mine. Several, in fact. Since I didn't have a GPS and download the waypoints, I chose not to log those finds. Due to some physical setbacks other than the toe (none of which are any of your f**king business), I've only been able to hunt one cache solo. In short, piss off.
  15. Wow, Clevland...that sounds...familiar. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/ubb/Forum2/HTML/002130.html
  16. All I'm saying is I have a right to fair access to the land upon which I live...the planet. Yes, I can't go around dumping toxic waste whereever I may roam, but I have a right to roam.
  17. A love it or leave it attitude is perfectly justified here. This is not our site, it is Jeremy's. It doesn't get any simpler. He asks our input, asked for donations, and came up with a way to raise funds to avoid annoying (and pointless as countless site shut-downs have proven) advertising. This is not geocaching. It is geocaching.com, a choice amongst others. So, yes, if you don't like it, go away. Find something that you do like.

  19. Last time I checked, I was an inhabitant of this planet and all of the land was here for me, at the top of the food chain, to use as I see fit.
  20. *shaking head* Buried caches...what's wrong with some of you? I can only hope that MrGigabyte is joking about a cache that looks like a gun with a trigger button...

  22. Agreed. If you're really hooked on the cylindrical (did I spell that correctly?) shape of this cache idea, perhaps an 80MM mortar ammo tube? Unless the whole military vibe for that container is too risky as well. It is for me, but I'm sure there are tons of morons in my area...
  23. Well, I posted this before in this thread here: http://opentopic.Groundspeak.com/0/OpenTopic?a=tpc&s=1750973553&f=3000917383&m=7400915593 But here's a run-down of the containers I plan on using to make my first contributions to the list of caches in my area. Kalamata olive containers. I have these in what I think is the five gallon size. I have about a dozen. I've been thinking about sending a few to Jeremy to let him sell them on the site as a kind of geocaching kit. They have a double lid with o-ring. They're great. They also come in smaller but usable sizes, but I haven't been able to track them down. Example (small size...I can't find one of the larger one): http://shop.store.yahoo.com/chiamp/greekkalolin.html Waterproof utility boxes in three sizes: http://www.campmor.com/webapp/commerce/command/CategoryDisplay?cgrfnbr=7695&cgmenbr=226 Waterproof, crushproof Otter Boxes: http://www.otterbox.com/index2.html Waterproof, crushproof Pelican cases can be found here: http://www.cases4less.com/ Underseat canoe boxes for *really* large caches are great. You can also use those five gallon and smaller buckets found in Home Depot and Lowe's stores. The lids are good and tight and the handles usually don't go all the way through the sides of the bucket. Many of these can be found on eBay at just about any given time. Sorry for the long links, shorterlink.com seems to be broken right now.

  25. Buried caches do exist. I've commented before about how badly this can portray our activities, but people still insist on doing it. People also place food in caches. This is just as bad for the same reason. Why is it that there are always boneheads messing up the things I like? Yes, yes, I know the caches in the NPS report are not actually buried. We do still, however, have morons burying caches. When you bury one, you introduce the concept to the newbie that it is acceptable to bury any and all caches. After all, it's really hidden if it's buried...
