  1. Blenz, one more thought. I don't know if Lowrance offers free updates on firmware like Garmin, but you might just check their website and see if you can download a free update to your gpsr. It may help with the accuracy and/or other issues that may pop up in the future.
  2. Thank you Langer91 for your offer, however I just read a reply from Markwell on another thread which finally showed me how to do it. Turns out the answer was staring me in the face all the time - but I guess its like looking for cache, sometimes I overllok the obvious. But again, thank you!
  3. While I cant speak about Lowrance customer support, I cant say enough nice things about Garmin cutomer support. I recently (about 3 months ago) purchased a map60cs from garmin after using the 12XL for the past 5 years. Though it came with a usb cord, I soon discovered it wouldnt allow me to download my National Geographic TOPO maps. So I called gasrmin and they sent me a free serial port cord via FedEX Next Day, all for free. A month later when I called to ask a question about mapsource, I mentioned how the DEET on my hands had discolored the back of the unit and they sent me a very nice neoprene case for my gpsr, again all for free.
  4. Thank you Markwell for your link on how to run pocket querries-I finally figured out how to do it. I look forward to seeing the results.
  5. Even though I am A premium member, I've never figured out how to do pocket querries, so here is how I do it. Download the waypoints to your gpsr, open mapsource on your pc with the map area you're interested in and upload the waypoints from your gpsr. The little cache icons will show up on the map you currently have open on your pc. Print out the map and your all set.
  6. Just another good reason not to go paperless caching.
  7. Garmin sells a neoprene case that fits like a glove on the map60cs. It has a clear plastic screen and allows full use of all map60cs buttons while in the case. It will definetly save your unit from scratches and dings.
  8. We always carry at least one compass along with our garmin map60cs. Even though this is a top shelf gpsr, with built in compass that is is supposed to be accurate even when stationary, that is not the case. The gps compass page or the map page will tell me which direction to head, I need the compass to know which way is which (say that 6 times fast). My silva compass came with its own instruction pamphlet which is quite adequate to get you started using a compass. And yes, always carrying extra batteries for your gpsr, and if you dont have mapd loaded into your gpsr, carry one along also.
  9. :DI'm defintely ignorant as I still have figured out how to use pocket querries.
  10. I am not familiar with easy gps. I use GSAK ( at www. GSAK.com ). All waypoints are put on one screen from which you do a very fast download to your gps. I use a garmin gpsmap60cs.
  11. Re: poison ivy preventive Could someone please tell me more about this rhus tox. Is it a shot, a pill or what? My mother who is in her 70's somehow came in contact with poison ivy while (believe it or not) sitting on a toilet seat at Devil's Lake State Park in Baraboo. She had terrible pain and blisters all over her bottom and legs. She went to the ER and saw her own MD as well. After 3 months it finally all cleared up, but now she is afraid to ever again go in the woods or even to a park. Any solid info I could give her to alleviate her fears would be greatly appreciated.
  12. I use the Garmin Map60cs with city select North America and am quite happy with it. You buy the car mount and put it on the dash and with the 12v power cord plugged into the cigarette lighter socket, you travel all day and night with it. I have called the Garmin support line 3-4 times and have always been very pleased with their support people. I would highly recommend the map60cs.
