Yes
I only made 1 version to sell at GCF and this was it. It was a lasy minute decision on my part to even mint the design for GCF, so I didn't even bother with other color combos for samples, too much in a hurry to get it done. There probably won't be a Steelers version though

Nice, but as a parent, I am not too keen on my kids potentially finding geocoins in a cache with profanity on them.

Can't someone in Michigan or Ohio pu one together...I need to get those states completed and need a reason to drive there.
Why didn't you get OH when you were here for GCF-PGH? It was a short drive from the event.

I don't think this is a complete list of participants, for example, it does not include us
.As with the other multi-events (888, 999, 10 years), our coins will first be available to event attendees. If any remain afterwards, we will entertain trade offers. I will post a note in the forums after our event if coins remain.

I missed the one in the silent auction at the MWGB. Oh well drneal would have out bid me anyway. LOL It is a really cool coin! Congrats to all who have received one.
I saw it there too, and it was above my limit when I found it...there were a lot of other mystery coins in the auction (Brenda REALLY wanted the Bell Witch coin, but we were out bid). At least I got to drool over the ones that we did not win. Congrats to those lucky recipients

International EarthCache day has always been held on the first day of Earth Science Week. Last year, due to funding, we were unable to provide support to people organizing events in the form of pins etc and so the day was up to individuals.
This year the day is on the 10 October. However, if that does not work for you or your local customs feel free to organize something during the next week. We would LOVE to know in advance of any activity you have planned - and see some photos of the event after it has happened.
As Touchstone says - its about spreading the joy of EarthCaches
I've already got the event for my area announced: GC2CEN8
Still trying to work on the details as I'm having a tough time getting any response from either of the two local universities with geologists, but hope to have discussions about the local ECs, and have some seasoned EC'ers discuss both logging and creating ECs. I also have picked up a couple of GS/EC geocoins for raffle.
One thing that would sure be nice would be if we could somehow convince GSA to go ahead and get more of the EC Master series of geocoins made up so we could have them in hand for 10/10/10. They say they have no plans in the near-term to get more. If only we knew someone that might have sway with them to convince them that it would be great to have those. Hmmmm.....
You might want to see if the are any geocaching geologists in your area if you do not hear back from the universities (we have at least 3 in our area - counting myself)...or try your local geologic survey
That's an idea I hadn't yet thought of. One question though....any suggestions on how I find out if there are any geocaching geologists in the area? The only search capability on here that I'm aware of is the Find Another Player, but that's only useful if you know their username.
You could post something in your local forums. If nothing else, you may get a reply from someone who knows someone who is a geologist. Also, look at the profiles of some of the locals that have hidden ECs. Not all ECs are hidden by geologists, but we are kind-of drawn to this type of cache. You could also post a "seeking a geocaching geologist" message in the Mid-Atlantic section of these forums.
From what I can tell I'm out of luck with local or regional geocaches as it appears that none of the COs are geologists. Haven't tried posting (yet) to the Mid-Atlantic section but will give it a try. I have posted a couple of times in our local caching group's forum with no luck so far, but just posted again to specifically ask if anyone in the group is a geologist.
The frustrating part of this is that we have both a community college and a university with a geology/earth sciences program and so far haven't had any responses from either, nor even from a geology club connected to the community college.
You might get a response once the school year starts. Many geology students go away to summer field camp...and the professors probably are not around in the summer either - unless they are teaching a summer class.

I have a BA in geology/minor in meteorology from Slippery Rock University, and some graduate work towards a Masters in geology from Ohio University...the hubby has a BS in geology from Michigan State and MS from Ohio University (can you guess where we met? LOL).
Although we have a strong geology background, we try to keep our ECs pretty straight forward and for the average person with no geology background. It should be interesting and education...I found that my students (when I taught geology 101) learned best when I made it fun.

It is the OFFICIAL International EarthCache Day and we will encourage you all to get involved by holding an event based in which you showcase EarthCaches in your area.
I am going to try and "weasel in" on an existing local 10-10-10 Event, GC2CXM1. My thinking here is to create an actual "walk though" on setting up an EC, only to have it ready to go on the day of the event. I'm hoping that by actually showing how to do one this would cut down on the intimidation factor, and by announcing they have just done one show them how easy it is to complete one...
Since there is a stream running through the park I thought using the Wentworth Scale [grain size] this should be simple enough. Just a little basic sedimentology. I'm also planning to run this past a prof down at Cal U [CUP] and see if this might help intrtoduce EC's to the university's geology club.
We're glad to have you weasel in on our event, Mark. Of course, it does not hurt that the organizers both have geology degrees
I wish that we had known about this special day before the geocoins were designed for the 10-10-10 multi-events. If I had known, I would've mentioned it to the coin designer.

If the main intent of this coin was a momento for your guests, and most will never see a cache, I wonder why you made them trackable. That would've saved you $1.50/coin.

Nothing like coming home from vacation and having to throw together a coin the same day. I think this was the only one that I have not lamented over my color selections. Guess I need to get the event page up and going now.

Here's a new one in Pa. I just heard about:
DCNR – A “Legacy of Conservation” Geocaching Trail
The exact details are still not known to me, but here's what I've heard so far:
- 30 caches all within Pa Wilds
- caches contain collector cards
- validation sites at some of the State Parks
- coins will be earned by collecting validated cards
I find this interesting, esp. since the DCNR recently imposed a $25 permit fee to place caches in the state parks.

As one of the folks that was on the GCF Pittsburgh committee, I can also tell you that there was one other consideration that we had to take into account regarding who could sell coins at the event...our venue. In the view of the hotel and township, our event was a vendor show. We, as the event organizers, were required by the hotel to secure a permit from the township (listing all participating vendors) to use their facilities for this type of event. It was part of our contract with the hotel. If anyone was caught selling items at the event who was not on the permit, we would've been in hot water with the hotel and the township.
