You had to know that was coming...there are scams out there that are exactly as you describe the situation, it's one of the simplest and widespread. "Hi Grandma. I'm in Canada, and I need bail money" There have also been a lot of cases of various social networking accounts getting hacked. So cousin Barbara is sending you a message that she's stranded in Anchorage and needs you to wire money, but actually the message was sent by a scammer. By the time you realize Barbara was actually in Austin, the money is long gone. So that's another reason folks tend to be suspicious of tales of stranded relatives. Unfortunately, that's the world we live in.

We're up to 46 finds and haven't hidden yet. There are 363 active caches within 10 miles of us (and at least half of that area is under water), making good locations tough to come by. So we're biding our time, waiting for just the right spot to turn up. We'd rather have a handful of quality hides than dozens of boring ones.

Newbie here. I'm sure this has been discussed somewhere, but I couldn't find it... Some 'travel bug hotel' cache owners want a minimum number of travel bugs, or require a trade. Bug owners, at least those on this forum, seem to really hate these restrictions and refer to them as prisons. They want their bug traveling. So, if you see a bug or 4 seem to be stuck in a hotel with these restrictions, do you honor the request of the cache owner or the bug owner(s)?

I've been successfully sending caches to my Dakota 20 one at a time from the cache page. So far, so good. I've also figured out how to set up and run a pocket query. Even better! But, I can't figure out how to then load that 'bulk' file to my device. I tried simply saving the emailed file (unzipped) to my D20, but the D20 doesn't show those caches in the list/on the map. It just doesn't seem to know the file is there. I have a feeling I'm missing something simple, but I'm struggling to find the page with the answer. Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Permanent as defined by the Geocaching.com Listing Guidelines = 3 months ;-). And that's a reasonable goal for Scout owned caches. A season, and then they can be pulled and the listing archived. No problem. But many group placed caches are just abandoned, and often immediately after publication. Nobody home. This is true of boy and girl scouts, class projects, 4-H... Gotcha. 3 months = permanent. Not exactly the common definition.

Newbie here - I'm not sure I understand the desire for ALL caches to be permanent? Why not allow caches that are only intended to last the school year, clearly labeled as such? Something that would allow the group to set up the cache, monitor it for a time, and then responsibly remove it (ie, make sure TBs are cared for and so forth) before the group disbands and leaders change and all. It would also help the over saturation I see in some parks, where it appears a particular teacher hides another cache in the same general location each year. What am I missing?
