  1. So how do you guys like the wheel really? Is it a pain to go through the extra motions to find say "mark waypoint", "page" , "menue" etc etc which is a button on the 60 series. The wheel kind of reminds me of the rino series with the click toggle switch thing which i found horrible to use. I have real reservations of the rocker/roller switch but may be unfounded. I have no problem with the 60 series buttons at all. Thanks
  2. Thanks for all the replies. My cs works great and still gets a signal in heavy trees. It has lost signal a few times but regains it immediately. Its a rock solid unit and i have reservations about getting a dud. I have heard stories about the cx,csx having a non bright screen as compared to the cs. Is this true? Is it an issue or just an observation. Thanks.
  3. Hi. I have had a gpsmap 60 cs for a year or so and love it. Been looking at a csx though . My question is. Do you notice a difference in satellite aquisition in heavy treed areas? Has anyone put a csx head to head with a cs? The ability to store almost unlimited mapping is bonus with the csx but for my usage its not that important. The garmin website boasts of the surf chip but is it a vast improvement over the cs?Any other noticeable improvements? Thanks very much. And. How do you fix a title screw up. Woryh it???
  4. Walmart has cell phone holders that will adjust to fit your 60. Its a squeeze but they work. $10CDN. The kit comes with a rubber sticky mount that mounts to your dash. Then the actual GPS mount clicks into this mount. Works great.
  5. The thing that swayed me the most from looking at a 76 was the buttons are at the top of the unit. Your hands are lower than your eyes so the natural thing would be to have the buttons at the bottom of the unit. Then when you type , your hand isnt obscuring the screen. I dunno. Call me Quazzy.
  6. The only timer the unit shows is when it is motionless and averaging. It does have a trip meter but it only shows miles. (As far as i have found.) I would think your gps will show the on or travel time. While in your motionless or averaging screen go into your menu and see if there are any other time screens available and choose which you want. FWIW. Eneloops lasted 17 hours on my 60cs with compass off sitting on my coffee table.
  7. Pffft. Still the crappy menu system. Heres one for you garmin. Its called the 60 csx-r . I would be all teary eyed over that one.
  8. I had a couple rino 110s and frankly they did nothing for me compared to my 60 series. If garmin left the 60 series as is and added a gmrs radio then it would be great. The menu system on the rinos is my biggest beef.Just add some more buttons instead of having to scroll through the menu system already. Walkie talkies were ok at best. I am speaking of the 110 model which is the cheapest rino.
  9. © -Color (s)- Sensors which include barometer, electronic compass, altimeter. (x)-Xpandable memory The xpandable memory is the only difference between the 2 .The cs has 56 MB, the csx is up to 2 gig or more due to the expandable card slot. The x model i believe has a sensitive satellete acquiring chip. The cs model has been discontinued by Garmin due to newer models, the cx and the csx.
  10. I wish you good luck with vista because your going to need it. Vista not only is a huge resource hog its not compatible with many many programs. Your best bet is to go back to xp if possible and wash your hands of vista atleast until more programs have patches . I just went through my own situation with vista and am happy to say GOODBYE to vista.
  11. hahaha... I remember when i was a wee tadpole. I worry that your holding too much inside XerOpiggy. Tell us how you really feel. As for your review. Twas excellent and i agree 100%. My used 60cs hasnt arrived yet but i am already sharing in your anger. For the record my Garmin Rino manual was an absolute waste of time.
  12. Your 12v plug center is +12v. The outer case is gnd. Fuses are usually stamped. The glass fuses are stamped on the end. .5 amp is a tiny fuse. Might have to go to an auto electric store and get one there.
  13. Nice. I may need to get me one. I looked at their online catalog but couldnt find a listing for it. Would you have a part # or catalog #? Thanks.
  14. Cute kitty and splendid repair. You should be a surgion sporting goop. I have one question. Where did you get that leather case?
  15. Nice repair job. If you want it to look even better, go get yourself a chunk of heat shrink from an elecronics store. Heat shrink the end of the antenna. I see lots of pictures of the damage but none of the guilty party.
  16. Hi. I bought a gps(60cs) from a fellow on this site from the U.S. I live in Canada. Is there anything i should do to the GPS for it to function properly? Maybe some kind of Hard reset? Thanks
  17. I had OK service from Garmin. I sent a RINO 110 in . It was glitchy and would freeze up etc. They took forever to get my gps back to me. So i got fed up and raised hell. Well. They sent me a brand new gps WITH a 12volt car adapter cable. And not only that. A few weeks later they sent my repaired GPS back to me so i had 2 rino 110s. So i dunno. Is that ok service or GREAT service?
  18. I have that product. Where do you see "update unit code?" I just did a quick check and don't see it in Mapsource, which, as far as I know, you need to run TOPO Canada. Disk 1 in the main index. Theres a tab that says "update unit code" When you have your cursor on that tab it says "Update your gps unit code""Topo Canada install required" That all i know.
  19. Just go to your local electronics store and buy a USB car power adapter. Anyone should work just fine as long it it conforms to the USB power standard of 5 volts. Thanks very much, I'll check it out tomorrow..... Walmart has the 12v cables for the 60c.
  20. What is the purpose of "update unit code" Is it to recognise your gps and basically set up the software? Thanks.
  21. This is from the garmin site. GPSMAP 60Cx Features: New high-sensitivity WAAS-capable GPS receiver by SiRF
  22. Hi. Whats the difference between the cs and cx other than an SD card and lower battery life. By looking at the Garmin site thats the only difference i see. If it is the only difference then why upgarde to the cx? What are the advantages in having a removable sd card ? I guess you could have multiple cards loaded with different maps so just pop in a card with the maps you want? I dunno.
  23. Ah yes. The rino plug does look alot smaller. That solves that. Thanks.
