  1. Yeah, don't tell us, SHOW us!!!! - T of TandS or teach us?
  2. Hi Folks, We reached the cacher and got the approximate location of where our cache was moved. We plan to re-hide it this weekend. I just hope the force is with us when we go to find it. At least we love to paddle the river - T of TandS
  3. I met again today with the management of a community association here in Columbia, SC to confirm permission for a new cache in their managed community. They were as friendly and welcoming as ever and love that geocachers are enjoying their community's trails and facilities. Here's the moral: Getting landowner permission makes you lots of new friends. - T of TandS
  4. S and I are going to try and find the cache and set it back. One issue is that it takes us two hours to get to it and down to the next landing, but I was already planning to make a Jeep delivery anyways. Here's what I wrote to the cacher: Dear Cacher's Name, If you have moved our cache, please don't try to replace it. We respectfully ask just that you tell us where it has been moved. We feel that the placement and safety of this cache and its contents are our responsibility. So we will replace the cache in its hiding spot and remove the knife from the container. Thank you for going for our cache. We want to tell you that you may feel free to ask for hints on any of our hides. Regards, T and S C I have found that the high road always wins, and S and I have cooled our jets some. - T of TandS
  5. Evidentally he thought the cache wasn't in the proper place according to the "hints" in the cache description. We were never contacted by him or any additional hints. Though all we ever say is that it's all there you just have to read the story carefully. All other previous finders have agreed that all the information needed to find the cache was right there in the story and yes, it was accurate. The cache was absolutely in the correct placement because we were one of the last cachers out there. I'm still very miffed at the audacity of this man. Stephanie S of tands
  6. No SWAT team? Dang! I just wondered if there was a FAQ or something. We are just a little peeved. Talking about it here is therapy. - T of TandS
  7. A local cacher who is well-known found and moved our cache, Deliverance. What's Groundspeak's procedure for such things? What should we do? - T of TandS
  8. My son, Carter is in heaven. I've asked him to take care of Crunchie and love him until the day you are reunited with your beloved pet. - T of TandS
  9. I have no idea what you're talking about concerning the etrex yellow not being good for geocaching. I put batteries in it and went out and found a cache right away. Not only does my 79.95 yellow etrex have waas, but the manual even references it having waas. Folks, the new yellows have waas on purpose now. That's why the price went up $10 or so, unless you go score a yellow for cheap right now. - T of TandS
  10. Buying from a local store is a good way to keep folks in your community employed, and many will price match the net prices, but back to topic.... Like someone said, West Marine has a bunch of units to play with. And they let you play with them. Go there. They have the etrex series and 60 series also at our store as well as the Magellan line. - T of TandS
  11. Also, some folks have newfangled GPS units that will average for them. But they don't realize that 5 minutes of averaging is still not enough time to really get things right. Yet they still say their average shows your coords are off. Not cool. - T of TandS
  12. Probably too late to help anybody, but... First, the Etrex is a great super-basic unit. No bells or whistle, no mapping, etc. But it gets and keeps a lock very quickly. Second, we'd been wanting a Yellow even tho we have a 60cs. The local Aldi didn't have them, so we took the ad to Wally-World and they price-matched. - T of TandS
  13. You can design a cache that causes people to near kill-themselves by their own choice. And you can go along for the hunt if you like. We have a couple that are a tad hard, and folks going for them have beat themselves up a good bit doing them. Just make the hunts and the puzzles hard. The best joke of all is making a 5/5 that really is a 5/5. Folks can't believe a cache can really be that hard and they just won't give up no matter how bad things get. - T of TandS
  14. One thing to consider is that even clean tap water will breed bacteria after time. - T of TandS
  15. One thing you need to make sure you do on the Vista C and others with compasses is the bee dance. If you don't calibrate the compass and it is on your unit will just flail. - T of TandS
  16. We were along on the find keeping the seekers safe on the find for this log. It was fun to be along, but logs like this are why we hide caches. It's a choice for each cacher whether he or she logs any of their finds, but it's sure a reward to the hider when a log of any type is posted on their cache. - T of TandS
  17. Also, you can use USAPhotomaps to help verify your coords. Plug them in and look at the Sat view. Finders of our caches have done this to show us when we were a little off. Now I plug the coords in on all of our new ones, and we've gotten praise for the accuracy of our hides. Good luck, - T of TandS
  18. I love the compass in our GPS, but I agree on having a real magnetic compass if you really depend on having an accurate compass. Here's a thread I started back when that explains why. I've showed this phenomenon to a bunch of folks who will verify that it's true. - T of TandS
  19. One thing to remember when caching is a good first aid kit. You should include some Benadryl in the kit. Even folks who have never shown signs of a sting allergy may have a reaction if they are stung repeatedly. This stuff can really be a lifesaver. Oh, and fireants (did you know all ants evolved from small wasps), don't ya hate them? - T of TandS
  20. This cache by Team Hikerman, The End, involving a map is one of our very favorite caches of all we have found. - T of TandS
  21. Like others have said, Ammo Box beats Tupperware. That's the only change we've made to our first hide. As you do more you might find yourself learning html and going back and redoing the pages also. Good luck on your hides! - T of TandS
  22. We never use the Altimeter, but the compass really helps when the sats are sketchy. How, you ask? When we put the unit down to let it settle, the compass knows which way to point to the cache location. Otherwise, units without a compass need to move to get a bearing. And the unit has code built-in to use the compass and the sats at the same time to help get a bearing to the cache. So, if you really want to drill down to a cache, the compass helps. But be sure to calibrate it by doing the bee-dance! - T of TandS
