  1. When I quote folks in a reply, I often just snip out the part that I am specifically replying to. In this case, I'm copying your whole post, hydnsek. Thanks for this: for all of this entire post. I haven't read every single post in these 9 pages. Has anyone been able to earn the bonus points for picking out three posters on this thread? Raises hand!!!!
  2. Great word! I previously ignored all ALRs, so obviously I won't miss them. But I would have been fine with them staying around too. I guess I don't get angstified over such things very easily.
  3. Are you from Ohio? You voted for yourself 14,000 times and 900 dead people voted for you?! I know that cachers here in Ilinois voted early and often. For who depended on the terms of the sale.
  4. If the cache was gone, I would be annoyed, but would likely leave their find log. If the cache was there, I would go remove the one they dropped to prevent confusion and I would delete their find log.
  5. I don't delete TB drop notes on my cache pages, but I wouldn't care if people deleted ones that I left.
  6. I think that seems about right in my area or perhaps slightly more women. When I first started caching, my mother and I were practically the only women caching in our area. That changed rather quickly though. I know a decent number of single women who cache as well. So it isn't just wives of cachers.
  7. I have always wanted to do that. I also considred buying a newspaper box on ebay and putting it out somewhere with a decent hike to get to it. Unfortuantely those things are a bit expensive though so I haven't done it.
  8. I've seen a number of silly ones, such as name three things near the cache, or list four types of fruit etc. I'm not particulalry fond of ALR caches, so I tend to just skip all of them. I have enjoyed looking at some of the photo ones though.
  9. When I traveled several times/month, it was common for my bag to be searched about half of the time. I think that a fair number of them are opened regardless of anything showing up in the Xrays. It is the same with the swabs that they do at the security line. Some people are just randomly chosen for an extra look. I got a pat down the last time time that I traveled, and my bag had the little tag in it stating that it had been searched during one leg of the trip.
  10. Once some years back I was traveling to Florida with two ammo cans filled with golf balls to give to a certain geocacher. At the little airport that I was flying out of, TSA directly searched the bags while you waited. I gave up mine and told the person that the ammo cans were full of golf balls, so don't open them upside down or anything. He asked why I had those and I said it was a joke as part of a game called geocaching. He said something like "Oh, I have a friend who is one of you weird people," and then he never bothered to open the cans. BTW, ammo cans full of golf balls in luggage make a lot of noise!
  11. I don't care for them and almost always skip doing them unless I already know the owner.
  12. We made poker chips especially for Geobash a few years ago. We found some good ceramic chips, which are much nicer than the plastic ones, for a good price at a local gaming store. Then we color laser printed stickers for them that fit in the center part of the chips. Putting all of the stickers on was easy, but a bit time consuming. Anyway, I will probalby make some more at some point, they were rather fun.
  13. We have racks and bags for over our back wheels. Our bags have one large center portion and two side portions that can be extended to drop down panels. We can fit a lunch and small ice back in the main portion and then extra items fit well in the sides. That way, we can go for longer rides by taking lunch with us, and we also can store the camera and GPS easily if desired.
  14. Way to go Neva! Maybe for 2010 you can try to hide 1975 more caches or move 1710 more trackables. Considering her love of trackables, she just might be able to do that! She needs a new obsession for the next year....
  15. I wonder if you coat it with polyurethane if that would do the trick? It would block moisture and also act as an adhesive of sorts to hold it open. Anyway, it is just a guess, I haven't actually tried it.
  16. They would probably fit in your kitchen. Put the pallet in your yard, put a log book in one of the cans, preferably in the center of the thing. Watch in amusement as people tear the pallet apart trying to find the actual cache.
  17. The Cabelas in Sydney Nebraska has an annual "sidewalk sale" (it is really a massive parking lot sale) and the two times I was at it, they had tons of ammo cans in various sizes for something like $1 or $2 each. I don't know if the other stores do something similar. The Sydney, NE store is Cabela's original/main store, so it could be limited to there.
  18. It happens. If you run into similar circumstances again, just go to the edit page and uncheck the box stating that the cache is ready. That will make it so the reviewer won't see it while you are out picking up the cache and making your changes. Then when all is ready check that box again.
  19. I you personally know the owner and they have a good sense of humor it could be quite fun. But I would be very careful about things such as that with people I did not know very well. Some folks could get very annoyed with you for messing with their cache.
  20. Micro or Regular?: Regular Traditional or Multi? Either Mystery or Earth? Mystery In a group or alone? In a Group Hiding or Finding? Finding Virtual or Webcam? Virtual Letterbox or Wherigo? Either Favorite GPS? No particular favorite Social(event) or not? Social FTF'er or not? No Podcast listener or not? Once in awhile Out of state or In state? Both "Extreme/Hardcore" or Layed back? Layed Back Urban / Rural? Rural
  21. I have always washed the can, sanded lightly, sprayed with a primer, then sprayed gold. Be sure to remove the lid and let it dry completely before flipping it to paint the other side.
  22. Ooooh! Good idea! I want one of those too to carry my caching puppy! Good luck on the pup and the Jeep, Carleen! Keep the first part of August open to come back to Colorado for the 3rd annual 4x4 and Geocaching event. And/or Sax's campout event! Good times!!! Plenty of Dogs and Jeeps at both plus loads of non-urban caching. I recognize that dog!
  23. I don't read any responses here as "set against" using ignore lists. Depending upon how a person caches, using the ignore list may be more trouble than not using it. I was thinking the same thing. I don't think there is anything wrong with the ignore feature and I can see how it would be very useful for some. Personally though, I don't feel compelled to use it and it would probably be a waste of time for me. I don't monitor things that often to do so, and when I got out caching I usually target an area for a PQ that is likely to include the kinds of caches that I like (e,g, a big complex of forest preserves or the rural bike trail etc). To the extent I want to skip anything within that, I can tell that from looking over my plans for the day on the map and by looking at descriptions etc.
  24. I don't use the ignore function. However, I often skip parking lot micros and similar types of caches unless I am with a group who wants to stop for those. I also pass over caches in bad/dangerous areas. If I get to a location and don't care for it, I leave. I don't mind passing up caches, but I don't feel the need to mark any to ignore either.
